If the cameras weren't there, everyone would be asking each other "Want to eat my bird?" and other such puerile jokes.18, 19 years old, middle of nowhere, sure to have one.

I was from JCC class of '90. Hang tough you guys, whatever it takes to survive. Knowing abit about plant and insect species helps as both are easier to obtain in the jungle. The earthworms are edible too, if you can get pass the squirming part. Forget about the fish, their presence is dependant on the time of the year.

Killing a bird to keep you alive. Thank god, you have something to eat. SOF Jungle Survival Course, you can't imagine what we eat. Your instructor is very good to let you set fire to cook. Remember the rule, you set a fire in the jungle. You are giving your position away and Sniper can take you down in 14football field away. Good that you guys made it....a lot more to go ahead...Good Luck!! (The more you sweat in PeaceTime, the less you bleed in war)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe last regulation for JCC was jungle hat or jockey cap while navigating. River swim does not require helmet but is been a long time since i've done it so i may be wrong. Surviving phase, only rifle needs to be with you at all times and life vest while doing activities along the river edge. Helmet only required when setting up your long antenna as you've gotta throw a weighted string into the canopy

Probably they change the syllabus for JCC again but when I was there, we had to surrender our ground sheets. It is made so that cadets will thatch or weave their own shelter for their A frames and fire place. Apparently, in this video, it is shown that they have yet to make their roof and even used black tape as lashings for the fireplace.

This is not BMT..Its OCS and those are officer cadets. You can get here from BMT if you do well and don't wayang (suck up to your commanders) and do well in SIT test where they put you in different situations and mark you based on your actions and leadership

  • @laxsin

Unlikely. As long as you are able to pass your IPPT and do well for SIT test you should have a chance for command schools.

Well that could be true. But given the differences between Army now and then, where in the past worst case scenarios are presented, the Army now focuses more on practicality and realism. Just imagine, would you surrender your ground sheet to anyone when real jungle survival comes to play? Why use lashings when you have black tape that quicken stuff so much more?

But Moon Lee, plants are also living things. You are saying that if we eat meat, we are murderers? And if we eat plants we are saints? Animals and plants have lives. Furthermore, if we are murderers, then carnivores and omnivores like lions, tigers, wild boars, chickens are murderers ? If so, they should also stop and eat plants too? You'll see even more animals endangered . Just because you say so. Therefore, you are wrong. Anyways, the bird was given a quick death to ensure no pain felt.

They should apply mud on their skin and face to ward off mosquitoes, mud is a good natural insect repellent. Good survival tip: If possible, cook your food away from your campsite, preferably next to a river because you don't want the smell of the food to attract unwanted attention at night. Also always build your shelter above the ground for 2 reasons: To keep dangerous possibly venomous animals away, and also to insulate your body from the ground at night. The body loses heat faster on ground.
