I first came to Alaska in 1995 after I got out of the service. My dad took me to Homer and we also went halibut fishing. I've been in love with Homer ever since. My wife and I go back every few years, but I always hate leaving.
My third summer up there we drove down to Homer for a halibut charter. Was a ton of fun, we caught so many fish we couldn't fit them all in our tiny freezer (I think we had six people from our shared apartment that went).
What a productive fishing charter that day was !!!! You both fished well & sharing the produce after bagging it was a great way to split the spoils. Lovely to meet Susan , a wonder fisher woman!!! I have a friend like her.... she's young enough to be my daughter and travels the world on fishing trips, in between being a wife, mother and school teacher !!!!!
Glad you could go fishing with capt Forest hes a great captain. I work on the exact same boat down the slip from him. Great video always glad to see people coming to homer to fish!!
I imagine you can eat the skin, I would not personally as I never do lol....I think when you rinse the fish that the water you add to it crystallizes and breaks down the fish.
You rock dude!!! I love the Homer area, but it's too pricey for my budget, otherwise I'd be down that way. Cod for Fish-N-Chips, Mmmmm.... beer battered???? with sale and malt vinegar!!! Those Food Savers always sound like a Cessna 172 throttling up rolling towards takeoff... LOL!!! As of Saturday halibut was selling for $37.95/# here at HEB!! Surf-N-Turf for dinner??? Maybe I can sneak by if that happens when I'm up there for that week??? lol... Here's an idea for you Sean: I was up in Anchorage on a work trip about 15 years ago, and went into a brew-pub downtown. They had fresh-caught halibut steaks, about 1.5" thick, that had been blackened!! THAT was the best steak of any kind I've ever had in my mouth!! Have you ever tried blackened halibut??? I'm envious dude!!! but my day is approaching!!
Same in Homer...a bit expensive to get land there for me as well hahhahhaaa.... I need a good blackening recipe, I don't have one, and we can definitely do a surf and turf when you are up Bill!
@@SeanInAlaska Cool deal Sean!! Thank You!! I'll come up with a Blackening recipe between now and then!! Dad did get approved to go into the VA Nursing Home at the end of this month. So it looks like the middle of July when I'll be up there. I hope to nail that down by the end of this week.
when you say fish and chips we have that in Australia they give you the cheapest fish which is Butter fish but really its shark beautiful fish only one i like looks like that but they crumb it in batter so its our fish chips hear in South Australia other states hear call it difrent like Victoria next state over cant rember over there called diffrent name

People who fish are worth being around!
I do not get jealous often.....but when I do, it typically involves a pile of fish fillets. =)
Hahahhahhaha...same!
Lived in Juneau in the 60s ..sure miss the halibut... and the clean air 🙂

He was such a great captain! And so friendly!!! I will go with him again.
we are going to move to homer
Beautiful place!
That knife needs a good sharpening Sean!
That knife is razor sharp, cutting on that piece of plastic was the problem lol....time for a decent cutting board!
Thanks for sharing the tip about not rinsing the cod until you pull it out of the freezer. Why does water break it down? Also can you eat the skin?
I imagine you can eat the skin, I would not personally as I never do lol....I think when you rinse the fish that the water you add to it crystallizes and breaks down the fish.
Now I want fish & chips!
Huh....what could have brought that on? Lol
Fat Olive's makes the best pizza in Alaska. We always take one home when we go to Homer.
They sure have some pretty unique toppings!!!

Right in the heart of sockeye season! Sweet!
@@SeanInAlaska in other words there might be an afternoon of fishing involved??? lol!!!
👍
Congratulations on catching all that fish. Was the fishing charter expensive?
Thanks! It was 300 per person
Make some Halibut Olympia and some beer battered halibut with that halibut.
My favorite recipe is halibut fish and chips!
👋😎👍
👍🤘🦟
I should of asked ya to skin some for me as I make leather from the skins.
Oh wow! I will remember that for next time!
@@SeanInAlaska please do. If you can save me some I will make you a very unique wallet
I will!!! Just halibut?
@@SeanInAlaska salmon as well.
