- The Homer Spit, is a natural formation jutting into Kachemak Bay for nearly five miles. This narrow strip of land offers breathtaking views, recreational activities, shops, galleries, restaurants, and accommodations, altogether making it a delightful destination. It is definitely one of the most unique places to experience Alaska's rugged beauty.
Note: The earthquake mentioned was the 1964 Great Alaskan Earthquake which measured 9.2 on the Richter scale. The sandy spit was prone to liquefaction and some estimates are that today the spit is half its original width.
Learned that a 'spit' isn't just a another word for 'patooie' ! Thanks for the lesson, Pops! Another great video, please keep them coming. Enjoying the education and the beauty of our fine country.
Hahaha! Funny that’s what I thought at first as that’s kinda what it looks like! Thanks for watching.
The town should sell shirts that say “I came here just for the halibut.”
I thought about sneaking that dad joke in there somewhere! Hahaha.
@@popshiking it would work on two levels. Promote your city and have some poor pun fun haha
My dad and I watched this together (you met my dad at the globe at CBU) he also traveled Alaska and was talking about the things he did in this town while we watched it.
Yeah there was a lot more to do there. Thx for reminding me about our meeting! Cool he could share his experiences there.
@@popshiking I’m just jealous he got to meet celebrity like you! I want to take the fairy from Bellingham Washington to Alaska just to say I did though.
Brings back memories from two years ago when my wife and I stayed at the Lands End Motel. Wish I had done a fishing charter.
That's cool! Yeah it is quite a beautiful spot.
April 27, 2024 - Dear Diary, today I learned what a spit was, thanks to Pops. 😉 Looks absolutely beautiful there!
Hahaha! That’s awesome. Thanks for stopping by!
Cool video, I wish i would have gone there when I was in Alaska!
You did so much! Too many things to try to fit in!
Your videos keep getting better and better!! My husband and i havent been to Alaska yet, we think we may do this exact trip next year! Thanks so much!
You should! Alaska is amazing. If you don’t follow my son Josh at through my lens you should check it out as he has great Alaska videos and tips.
Went in 2021 and wish I had spent more time in Homer! We spent most of the day hiking Grace Ridge acrross the harbor and I have zero regrets about that but more time in Homer would have been nice! I could spend a whole week out there!
I would have loved to do that hike. Didn’t get the chance on this trip.
Pops🤷🏽♀️in the Salty Saloon is that money hanging from the ceiling…I couldn’t tell.
Absolutely a great trip and video.
Thanks for sharing👍🏽
Sure is!! Thanks for watching.

Fantastic! I didn't know why it was Homer Spit, I am actually surprised I didn't know what a "spit" was! Cool. I made it to Alaska and will be visiting there in a few weeks! Thanks!

Love the reward footage, Pops! Great video 🙌🏽
Hahaha! Thanks for watching till the end.
This is my hometown and my brother owns the Lighthouse. BTW, we pronounce Kachemak Bay like "catch-a-mack"
That’s cool! He owns a piece of history!
