Showing off the techniques I use for unwrapping meshes in 3ds max. Also every time I say "Poly group" I meant "Smoothing Group.

Thank you so much, this has been the most useful explanation of the uv unwrap process.

I love you, I was stuck for hours with a problem and I didn't know about the flatten mapping. Thank you so much

Question: How long does it take for YOU to texture something like this? For example, when I see a game like Doom Eternal I'm blown away. Seems guys like that are on a whole other level.

i select faces and reset peel as in 2:57 but it resets the whole geometry instead of the only selected faces =( any solution ? also it scatters the mesh into several pieces instead of one as in video

4:18 does anyone know if there's a way to unwrap by smoothing groups automatically (instead of manually going through each one)?

so you packed the small section of the top rail into a neat little group
but after packing everything at the end.. wouldn't 3ds max split the little group up?
or in other words, is there a method to keep sepperated groups like the one you did and pack a lot of them together instead of each isle?

Yes packing everything at the end would undo all your work. You can do what I do with the top rail and other similar places and exclude them from the final pack and then manually pack everything together.

I was just playing around with the groups and noticed that they just break up if you have a the uvw modifier on multiple objects. so if you'd attach everything into one object, you still can use the grouping. just gotta break it up and rename them afterwards.
i guess it depends on the object if it's worth it.
thanks, this tutorial gave me new ways to work :)

I find it hilarious how people with 0 content on their channels/ irrelevant content on their channel that doesn't even relate to the video they've commented on. Then just proceed to down talk the tutorial that was put together lmfao.
I myself am getting into UV'ing features and I'm certainly going to try using these techniques since I have some complex meshes I'm going to be working on.

UV mapping process in 3DShitMAX considered harmful.
