Do NOT hold the valve "with your hand" while you tighten the nuts back on. As you can even see in the video, the whole valve starts twisting in the wall while he does this. This is a risky thing to do and can break off the valve pipe inside a wall, or just cause it to start leaking inside a wall (where you won't know it until it causes water damage). Hold onto the valve body with a pipe wrench or channelock pliers so you can really get a good firm grip on it and prevent it from twisting while you tighten the nuts.
Otherwise... nice video. Clear and informative.

Thanks for posting that. It saved me the trouble of posting the same warning. It needs to be *Pinned*!

Well it's 2022. Why are you waiting for a man to fix something? If it's broken fix it.

I just used a little motorcycle oil to help loosen the assembly piece and it worked. Must have been rusted cause it was hard to pry loose. :)

2:40. "While holding the valve with your hand..." Strong guy. I'd hold it with a pipe wrench instead (the smallest that can do the job). Same thing at 0:19 and 0:41.

What do I do when the value assembly piece is not coming loose? Mine must be rusted because it is not budging at all. How can I get it to loosen?

With water supply shut off and valve fully open you can try heating the valve with a Propane Torch. You probably want to replace it with a Brass model anyway.

@@cdrive5757 Thanks for the advice!!! I'd probably burn my house down! LOL
I contacted the mfr, NIBCO and they sent me a new part. Seems to not be leaking now. I noticed that the smaller nut right underneath the round on/off metal knob(your knob is red in the picture here) should not be overtightened. Seems to drip if that smaller nut is overtightened, so I hand tightened the small nut and then turned the metal on/off knob tight and it seems to not be leaking. Never realized how these outdoor spigots could be so sensitive.

@@Floridafisherman5000 Ira, I certainly don't want you to do that burn your house down. Advancements made in electronics technology in the last 50 years have been astounding, yet that valve design patent dates back to the 18 hundreds! Good luck my friend. Chris
