FF7 Rebirth I What Is Jenova - The CALAMITY From The Skies? (Jenova's Origins & Story Explained)

While Sephiroth is undoubtedly Final Fantasy 7's main enemy I've always found Jenova's story just as interesting.

In this video I will take a brief look at Jenova's origins and story, and also explain why I think Jenova is such an interesting entity in the context of Final Fantasy 7.
This video is a critical commentary on the character of Jenova from FINAL FANTASY VII and is therefore presented to viewers for the purpose of criticism and commentary.
After lying dormant for many hundreds of years, Jenova was discovered at the North Crater by Shinra, who mistook her to be a member of the Cetra.
The power company planned to use the creature's cells to create a human-Cetra hybrid. While this plan failed for obvious reasons, the Jenova Project had unexpected consequences - the creation of super-soldiers.
Project G, and of course, Project S, resulted in Genesis, Angeal, and the legendary Sephiroth, who became members of SOLDIER, Shinra's elite fighting force.
However, after learning that Jenova was in fact not a member of the Cetra, but was actually a hostile alien lifeform, Professor Gast left Shinra in order to continue his research elsewhere, out of the company's reach - or so he thought.
His departure, coupled with Sephiroth's clear superiority as the most powerful SOLDIER 1st Class, resulted in Professor Hojo taking control of Shinra's scientific exploits.
It would not be until years later, during the terrible events that took place at Nibelheim, that Sephiroth would begin to uncover the truth about how he’d been created.
After seeing what had become of the Mako-infused mutants at the Nibel reactor and reading about the Jenova Project, Sephiroth's descent into madness was set in motion, along with his desire to see the creature he called mother.
However, after being badly wounded by Cloud, Sephiroth was only capable of taking Jenova's head rather than her entire body.
After misjudging Cloud’s strength while trying to leave the reactor, Sephiroth was thrown into the lifestream while still holding onto Jenova's head - the last time the true Sephiroth would be seen for a number of years.
After the carnage at the reactor, Hojo - never one to let an opportunity for experimentation pass him by - took the chance to see whether his reunion theory was correct or not by injecting the survivors with Jenova cells, leading to the creation of Sephiroth clones.
While they wouldn't be clones in the true sense of the word, Hojo expected those injected with Jenova cells - including Zack and Cloud - to be susceptible to manipulation by Jenova.
However, even he was surprised to learn later that they were actually being manipulated by Sephiroth.
