    That was an amazing neighborly act of kindness from Harley. Even Rufus seemed content to be there. That's the stuff Heaven is made of. I hope your travels take you to meet many more folks like that. It was nice of you to let us watch. Thank you Harley!!!

    Thank you for the tips. I called Freightliner and got the sending unit part number with the last 6 digits of the VIN. Googling the number I found a local Freightliner shop that ordered the same sending unit for $65. The hardest part was siphoning out 70 gallons of fuel. With an air impact and your straps I dropped the backside down giving me plenty of room. Easy job. Thank you.

    You did a great job explaining all the important details on removing the gas tank on your RV. You should have been a great teacher. I will be doing the same work on my 89 Aluma Lite, From Puerto Rico, Benjamin Fuentes.

    I think those folks are awesome , I once has a vespa that my dad gave me for my 12th birthday and the tank had chunks of rust. I took it to a car wash and stuck the wand in the tank on steam and it cost me a couple of dollars to get the job done. But when I was done it was clean as a whistle. (of course it was 1969) . I haven't seen a quarter car wash in a very long time. Thanks for sharing your videos and if in the next 18 months you happen into Olympia look me up. After that we're Bama bound.

    What a awesome video in so many ways. You have wonderful friends in Harley and his wife and it was nice to see how everything went down and what you did. I know I'll never do anything like that by myself, but I feel like having the knowledge about these kinds of things helps me not get taken advantage of by a mechanic while on the road! I appreciate you Chico!

    Wow...what a great guy Harley is to have volunteered his time, his place and his equipment for such a major repair. That's a really, really big deal! I hope you offered him some payment. Doubt he would take it but he certainly deserves a tremendous thank you. Not many people in the world that would do that or have such a perfect setup to do that job.

    Considering the anxiety and near heart attack level of panic you endured, I am stunned that you re-used the existing pump.
    If anything can strand any vehicle at any moment, it's fuel delivery problems -- and dropping that tank out on the road is not feasible.
    In any RV I've ever owned, (dozens), I always install an independent, electric fuel pump at a convenient place on the frame. Turning a valve and flipping a switch gives me fuel to the engine, regardless of the factory set up.
    Peace of mind is a top priority, meaning I always carry an extra starter, every ignition component that's critical, a spare alternator and an extra water pump.
    Heck, I even carry a replacement wiper motor.
    Anal, eh?
    But I've never been stranded, anywhere -- ever.

    Chico,
    My "cussing" comment was about the issues of stopping you had on the road, and I posted that before I watched the entire video. Having watched the rest of the video, this was a VERY interesting situation and wow - what a garage Harley has. You have a good friend there. And he seems very good natured with a smile in place.
    I hope you can get some peace with RV issues right on top of "hurt animal issues." That has to have been a source of a lot of stress. You know the old saying..."this, too, shall pass" and that is just the way it is. I'm going through some similar issues, just one thing after another, and I know the toll it can take if you don't step back, put it all into perspective, and arrange some down time.
    Anyway, thanks for this video and glad to see issues being resolved for both you and Rufus. Things are looking way up for both of you.

    Hi,Chico, you should have some recorse with the gas station that sold you that fuel.I am sure you were not the only one.When you need that spare it will be raining or snowing,which means laying down on the ground.Nice guy that Harley.

  • @Blastfence1
    @Blastfence1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe some of the problem was the old vent line not allowing atmospheric pressure to enter the tank creating a vacuum within the tank. After the engine was shut everything would balance out.

  • @ray_biker7406
    @ray_biker7406 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would change the gas pump and any filters inside the tank. Based on what you said, the pump was mksf likely cavitating and running semi-dry. This puts a lot of wear on the pump.

    I believe I have this same exact tank. I don't have a forklift but I'll try to do it with a motorcycle jack. Do you remember how many bolts to remove? Is it safe to say I only have to worry about disconnecting the filler hose, then I can unbolt and lower the tank some to see if I need to disconnect anything else before lowering it to the ground? I have an F53 460 V8 with 75 gallon tank with 40 gallons in it. I have to replace the fuel pump.

    Great video! I have a idea about the problem you were experiencing. Perhaps where the vent line was accumulating fuel was blocking the air exchange thus causing a vapor lock while driving and also causing the gurgling during refueling as the air would be forced to escape from the same hole as the fuel coming in. The fuel tank vent is a very important part of an internal combustion engines’ operation. Anyways just an idea.

    HELP!!!! Hi Chico! Have enjoyed watching you & Rufus' adventures......found you researching the same issues you were experiencing with Guz losing power/stalling after driving for a bit. New to RVs, husband bought it used a few weeks ago, we know a big fat zero about them and while doing tune-ups and little fixes took it for a ride and got the scare of my life anyway. DRove about 16 miles onto Route 80 in NJ to get it on the highway around 6 PM, so it was already dark. The check engine light started going on and off, pressing gas pedal and getting no power and speedometer/speed just dropping to around 5 MPH, cars and semis, whizzing by around 75-80 MPH and was just waiting for someone to slam into the back of us. Finally made it to off ramp to Rt. 17 which was slightly uphill and would barely move, the needle was not even registering. To say people behind us were unhappy is the understatement of the year. Finally got into parking lot and shut it off. After about 5 mins. started it up again, but only made it another mile before stalling out completely in the middle of an intersection....ugh!!! Got it going and into another parking lot to set a while longer.....and then finally got it home, which was maybe another 7 miles........So my question is: Can you describe EXACTLY what Jeff did to fix it? My husband has tried some things, but like you they are not working.....and are you removing the fuel tank because it is happening again?????
    Thank you for any help!! For this to happen on NJ roads with our traffic is life-threatening.
    Hope Rufus is feeling better, sorry he is still limping :(

    Question: So how much "cussing" did ya do every time this stopping occurred? If you say "none - I always conduct myself with the utmost of dignity and cursing is only for people who lack the means with which to express themselves properly" well then, I'll believe you're a saint. I know I would have engaged in some very colorful "cussing" if it happened to me. Just can't express myself any other way sometimes. :)
