Wow. Steve. Brilliant video. Just new to the biking community and this is on my bucket list. You’ve gave plenty of info to help plan my own trip. Best of luck mate from Belfast. 👍🏻
The wee remote house down from Glenshee is most likely a bothy. Used by hill walkers and people generally using the countryside. Loads of them throughout the country.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt Next on the list, you may see what looks like the end of a house, gable wall and chimney. They were used with a tarpaulin and travellers could make a safe dry fire using the chimney stack
Looks like another great trip, Mr C - love the new jazzy intro; recently back from Austria (+6 other countries) so I'll be jumping straight to Episode 2!
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt It's a fair old schlepp getting there but, the views and roads are something else - push it somewhere towards the top of your list :)
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt We were based in the west of Austria at a place called Kappl, it's a big ski resort in the winter but a few places open for bikers during the summer; the roads were incredible and being situated so far west meant that you were handy for Liechtenstein, Italy, Switzerland and the B500 in Germany. The boys who organised it chose really well - if you do get to that area you have to do the Silvretta Pass, it's not as technically difficult as the Stelvio was (nor as mental) but the road itself and the views are simply stunning.
Made me smile when you recounted the story of the foreign lady with the arrow saying keep left. My Mrs made little arrows for the edge of our satnavs for Spain.... keep right! Just wondered, see you use tank notes and have a satnav, do you program the route into the satnav? We use the Garmin Basecamp to plan a custom route and set way points for all the places we want to go, especially filling stations with my 100 mile range
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt cheers Steve, been so busy with my own editing I haven't had the time to watch other videos. Having a night off catching up on other you tube vids.
I know exactly what your saying Paul I don't think a lot of people realize just how much work is involved when editing but hey ho we must enjoy it eh I know I do, enjoy your night off having a catch up pal 👍
Thanks Steve another great video, nice to be able to check on a map where you are, not too much traffic about when did you go ? cheers looking forward to the next vid
Hi from a new sub...brilliant vid very very informative. I stayed at Travelodge Kinross a few years ago on way back from John O Groats and I struggled to get out of the damm car park back onto motorway... I'm off up there again next year so will l be watching with interest hopefully get some new tips 😀
Thanks for the sub my friend and I really did document turn by turn and as much info of landmarks we passed so should hopefully help you if you follow it on a map. thanks again for watching and the sub RIDE SAFE mate.
Really good stuff. I like how you cover the fine details in a clear concise way. I did the same route as you in May 2019 by car with my Dad, who`s elderly. Was dry but freezing Need to go back and ride it. Enjoyed watching this during lockdown. Also sounds like your from the same part of the world as me...lol
Thanks Paul pleased you enjoyed it my friend and hope you get to ride it soon. After these very tough times the roads will still be there mate. Stay safe fella
thanks for all these vids i have been studying them for my 10 day trip next year if everything is back to normal i am not a bike person however your vids are the best i have found on you tube and you even stayed in one hotel that i have booked lol ben loyal hotel thanks again
Thanks Steven really appreciate the comment and really hope you get to do it next year my friend. Oh and the Ben Loyal comes highly recommended from me my friend.

@@paulmackenzie7640 thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I have been put right on a lot of pronunciation throughout this series, so apologies my bad my friend and can I say your very lucky to have been in such a beautiful part of the country. Stay safe Paul
Hi Steve. Loving it. I'm guessing you are from somewhere towards the end of the Humber. Really like the way you are putting your film together with the commentary. And agree 100% people tend to watch TH-cam to get some ideas so locations and recommendations are a brilliant idea. Or to re live their trips. Did a lot of the route last year but not the NC500 as such. Been again August in reverse but it was Camper Van World holding everything up. Going again in a couple of weeks (Moffat area) and again in October. As a recommendation for cheap basic accomodation - Sky Lodge Perth (on the airfield). Can cater for a larger group of bikers. Secure. Only continental breakfast and it is a good walk or a taxi back into Perth for beer/food. Really chuckled at the put up bed scenario , been there done that. :) And you didn't sleep well because of the underlying guilt - yeah??! We just made the fuel station outside Braemar (coming the other way) before it closed. My mate has an MT10 and I'm adapting my GSA for 'in flight fueling'. Lad in there was working his last shift before Uni. His family moved up from Gowdall when he was young. Right Episode 2 :)
Ha ha yeah didn't sleep through guilt NOT lol. thanks for watching my friend and for taking the time to leave such a good comment, You obviously know all about Scotland from all you have told me. Ride safe my friend and thanks again appreciate it
Was you up Scotland at the end of June? I think I bumped into you at Ardmire point campsite, can't remember the names/bikes but one lad was on a Bandit 600 and another a Bergman 400 or similar, was four of you all together.
This is good timing just caught your video as I am heading off for a similar trip tomorrow. I think you got it spot on when you name the roads as you go along, so helpful to viewers like myself. Could you advise which parts are must see and which section can be missed please?
Thanks for the comment and in answer to your question we did it the right way as in anti clockwise because the whole of the West Coast blows you away and the East Coast is good but nothing compared to the West, oh and all along the top North run is great too, Ha Ha just do it all
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt Thanks for the feedback Steve. My initial plan was to try to fit in the Hebrides as well but now the weather seems a bit iffy might just follow your route this time round. It's my first bite at the cherry so probably be wise not to be too greedy.

Hi Steve or is it Mr fat lad? I've watch your series very enjoyable 😉 have you still got the gpx file? I'm struggling to do them. I fancy doing that route in June I've already planned to do a European trip France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Monaco, Andorra, northern Spain then back along northern France visiting ww2 places of interest. But I think covid has put a end to that hopefully next year thank Steve Regards David
Hi David and thanks for watching and I do have the GPX files of each of the four stages we did. If you let me have your email address I will gladly send you them fella.
Hi steve Could you please type a list of the places that you stopped on this trip, the b&b's and hotels/hostels, as me and my bloke are doing this at the end of august Thanks, It looks amazing! Cheers mate. Daz and Clare.
Kinross Travelodge, Raigmore Motel, Ben Loyal Hotel, Kinlochewe Hotel and Dumbarton Travelodge were the 5 places we stayed in going around the NC 500 Clare hope that helps. It's an amazing route that gets better and better as you travel round it.
What time of year did you do this? I know weather in N. Scotland is unpredictable, but the lack of snow on the peaks probably means it's between May and October, but could you narrow it down a bit? I'm looking at doing this on my Harley either this year (2021) or next.
Hi fella we did it in middle of July with no midges about and half decent weather, like ya say Scotland is very unpredictable. Hope you get to do it my friend.

I’ll be flying to Glasgow in May 2020, bus to Edinburgh, then pick up a rental motorcycle..west to Inverbeg, Oban, Ft.William, Applecross, Ullapool, Durness, John O’Groats, Inverness, Edinburgh...I have my route mostly selected..but if you have any suggestions that will take me on single track wherever possible I’d really appreciate it. I’ll be creating my route in Garmin Basecamp and uploading to a Zumo..
Hi Bob sorry for late reply but I can highly recommend the B869 passing through Drumbeg and Stoar its 22 miles of single track road with lots of inclines and bends and blow you away scenery my friend. It features solely in Episode 5 of this series and was one of the highlights of the trip in my opinion. Ep 5 out a week next Saturday, hope this helps and have a great trip Bob
Steve Clark Thanks very much for the route suggestion..I’ve added that piece to my route! Just about the end of the riding season here, thank god for heated grips on my FJR1300..this weeks m/c maintenance task is to pull the heads off the Vincent for a refresh. Your videos will help get me through the long bloody winter and -45c days..Thanks again..BobC

Paddy the Pan just got to heavy for me to manually manoeuvre about and was gutted to let it go after 12 yrs together but must admit the BMW is one amazing machine. Enjoy the series my friend.
Thanks for watching Stephen I use a Drift Ghost S as main helmet camera and a Drift stealth 2 as dash cam and the watch device turns both cameras on and off at the same time and I love the Shark helmet as the chin guard flips right over the back. Ride Safe fella
Yet to do NC500 on my bike. Done it in a convertible with the lid down the full route and a RV. One point, going anti clockwise, on the coast runs you would be on the "wrong" side of the road no???? do you think it would make that much difference??
Well done on doing it twice Bob and doing it anti clockwise is best way I think as it just gets better and better as you do it East not bad North gets better and is great and then finish with West Coast which as you know blows you away and we still ride on the left Lol. Thanks for watching Bob
Hi Pete your in for a right treat my friend it will blow you away and I use the Drift Ghost S camera. They don't make that model anymore but can be found on eBay. Ride Safe fella.
Hey up Steve. Funny that, I was driving home yesterday thinking, where's fat lad on his bike at? Then later on I get a notification saying fat lads just uploaded a video. Get on! Enjoying the footage and info mate, but a suggestion might I add, what about the time of year? I like to know as you have put, road names, towns, temperatures, time of day and time of year. Obviously you don't need to keep saying what time of year but maybe at the start of the vid in a title of just spoken. What time of year did you go?
Thanks for the comment Nick and never thought to put what time of year but guess your right, so just for you my friend we went in the middle of July this year. Thanks for watching and plenty of episodes to come my friend
Hi Steve loving you're videos I was intrigued to know how you manage to keep out the wind noise during you're commentary? Is it all about the the camera you use or do you edit the sound later.?
Richard I have a Sena 20S com's kit that has a big microphone which I clip the Drift Ghost S cameras small mic behind and it seems to shield it as I ride with the chin guard up most times. No editing done my friend

@@Carlos-qk2vi Anyarea in particular in Austria you would recommend my friend you've got me interested bigtime now
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt We were based in the west of Austria at a place called Kappl, it's a big ski resort in the winter but a few places open for bikers during the summer; the roads were incredible and being situated so far west meant that you were handy for Liechtenstein, Italy, Switzerland and the B500 in Germany.
Hi Richard I also use basecamp and send all routes to my satnav but like to have notes on my tank bag to help with the commentary as I pass places.
Did a similar run in July and boy did it pish down but when the weather was good Scotland was stunning as usual...

Hi Steve.

Was you up Scotland at the end of June? I think I bumped into you at Ardmire point campsite, can't remember the names/bikes but one lad was on a Bandit 600 and another a Bergman 400 or similar, was four of you all together.
Afraid not Fred I don't know anyone with a Bergman or similiar, but am sure our paths may cross at some point, ride safe pal.

Don't suppose you still have this route saved anywhere that you could forward to me 😁
Hi Steve loving you're videos I was intrigued to know how you manage to keep out the wind noise during you're commentary? Is it all about the the camera you use or do you edit the sound later.?
Richard I have a Sena 20S com's kit that has a big microphone which I clip the Drift Ghost S cameras small mic behind and it seems to shield it as I ride with the chin guard up most times. No editing done my friend
