  • I love Lii-song drivers! These two offerings add more fun to an already great line-up.
    Ok, I seem a bit tired in this one. well.. I am lol. more jokes in the next one I promise.
    Attention, the platinum 10 does not fit in the silver10 cabinets. Dimensions are different.

    I received my F15s this week. Built a set of barrel baffles for them. Last night finally got to give them a listen. WOW! I think my spatial audio speakers are going up on Canuck audio mart this week. These F15s really are something special even before they are broken in. For 600$ these have to be the greatest deal in hifi today.

    • @xzing7
      @xzing7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations 👏.
      How do they compare to the spatial audios. Are you running dual mono's configuration. Finally how is the base response.

    • @billbones1000
      @billbones1000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xzing7 yes dual mono in low standing barrel baffles tilted back 15°. The F15 have very tight bass with great tamber but very little capacity to charge a room (I have two REL subs that pair perfectly with the F15, the combination is magical). The spatial audio are amazing speakers which do not require subs, they are more "modern" sounding though (very clean and transparent). I prefer the more romantic sound of the F15 with the RELs, but that's personal preference ..... Both are excellent speakers and great examples of how open baffles mop the floor with any box speaker costing less than the price of a new car. After only a few hours listening to the F15 I am convinced that paired with the REL subs they are very similar to the spatial speakers (huge dynamics and soundstage, life like instrument sound, ton of air and space, super fast slam effect ect) except a bit more romantic and intimate sounding which is generally more my preference. Either choice is for sure a home run, just depends on if you have subs and your personal taste in sound character (very neutral vs slightly warmer). Also, I'm not rich and if these 600$ F15s allow me to actually sell a much more expensive speaker, make some cash while having upgraded in the process it will be a goddamn Christmas miracle.

    Great first impressions. I’m getting 1.5 inch thick barrel shaped baffles from Caintuck Audio next week for my Fast 15’s. It will be interesting to gauge the bass response. Considering they’re not large baffles, perhaps a bass baffle might be called for but probably won’t make that call before the 500 hr mark. I share the same concern with the outer ring, though yours look decidedly less yellowish, compared to mine and some others I’ve seen of late. Also planning on getting a small SS amp to give them a workout prior to inserting them in to my main tube rig.

    Looking forward to more impression as the drivers cross the 500 hr line. Rather that a separately enclosed super tweeter, have you considered mounting a 3/4" or 1" tweeter and crossing it over using approximately a 1uF capacitor with the Lii -song of your choice running full range. Just add a little to the top end to get that extra air and crispness to the sound, ala Nelson Pass' suggestion outline in his article, "Current Source Amplifiers and Sensitive Full Range Drivers."
    Also do you have any impression of the f12? Seems like it could be an exceptional all-arounder.

      Cant do it without some custom modifications both to the baffle and to the crossover. The platinum is not ment for open baffle. So the w15 would be compensating for higher range in the low pass.

      @@jorgebacani1901 I have not experimented in closed box designs to have the creativity and understanding to properly advise you. You can use a speaker design software, there are several out there, where you input the specs of the drivers you are considering, and the software will give you the parameters and specs your box needs to have to acheive the frequency response you want. Experience and creativity with these parameters in terms of how you execute it, is what makes the difference between two identical looking speakers from the outside, but its how its executed inside that changes things.
      Inside, things such as, the port vent size, length, bracing, damping, box size and shape, etc etc.
      These things are relevant to the driver you pick. Then, you have the crossover or filters that can come help tweak the frequency response and output as well.
