    I want to let you and your subscribers know that following your directions, it worked perfectly on an Ellen Wille wig! It took the brassy yellow out of the wig for me and now it is just perfect! I used the dye and alcohol just as you suggested and "Voila!" Rinse, wash and now it is perfect. Thanks again.

      So glad you liked it. So many blondes are yellow that I HAD to find a way to tone them 😀 but I've also used this on brown wigs that were too orange. Let me know if you try it.

    I have done this with gentian violet and warm water (for a more subtle toning) and with 70% alcohol and a purple sharpie pen where you break open the pen and take out the ink and soak it in the alcohol and this method worked well to dye the whole wig a dramatic lavender. I have Also used a purple shampoo and warm water...Loreal Ever Pure and soaked the wig. All methods worked well to tone out brassy yellow which i hate on me because im very fair skinned, but I agree with your advice, it takes practice and you should start on a cheaper wig because the results...depending on the method used, how much ink and how long you soak/rinse or if you repeat the process can make a big difference

    I just tried a product called gentian violet with 3 of my older wigs that were a "bronde" brunette/ gold color and it toned down the gold to an ashy color and I like it much better.

    I have done this too as well as gentian violet. The GV can fade out with multiple washings so seems less permanent. I have also used a colored dry shampoo - Batiste in the deep brunette shade - to tone it down and it takes on a bit more of beige appearance. The dry shampoo easily washes out so it gives you some options!

    Have you considered using an alcohol ink? After letting dyed wig totally dry, rinse in cold water until water runs clear. No shampooing necessary to prevent color transfer. With your method I could definitely see the blond was toned down on your wig. I wonder why the wig companies don’t wise up and offer more ashy blond wigs.

    Cosplay people use this type of dye method for coloring white wigs to vibrant colors. I used this method on a Noriko Angelica wig to wear to festivals. In my experience, subtle is the goal, a gentle bath is the best. When you leave these alcohol and inks on too long it will dry out the wig. It didn't matter for my old wig. I got lots of compliments on the wig. But it dryed it out, and was no longer silky to run my fingers through. Don't use a stronger alcohol, that is what will dry it out. I'm going to try out this method to just cover some yellow hues. Thanks for the vid

      @christinemcgraw8710  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tips. I've also found that the lower quality the fiber, the faster it dries out, which is why I use a lower % alcohol. Also, I cosplay a little and really admire people who do it with more commitment than me.😍

    Thx 4 sharing UR video. I've done it like U showed it. 2 Wigs. Which were so golden and not just "sandy blonde". Eww.
    I got Isopropanol Alkohol, coz I made by DIY my GelliPlates 4 monochrome Prints.
    After toning my wigs I took them outside. Coz of the "smell".
    My tipp 4 anybody who wants to tone their wigs like Christine: do it outside or open pretty wide the window. Because of the fumes from the Alkohol.
    Thx again Christine 4 this video. It's understandable and quite easy to listen. 🤝🏻🤝🏻🤝🏻💐💐

    Wow this was very interesting to watch! As someone who majored in Art in school, I loved watching you work this color magic! I will pass this info onto anyone that might need it. I was a former redhead that faded and lightened over time before getting white streaks. So...In my case I want warmer wigs, but I keep finding Burgundy, Beet Color or Hot Red looking wigs and hardly any delicate strawberries! As a woman of a certain age, Auburn is now too dark for me. Some wigs come in shades of ash blonde to light ash brown and I am not seeing gold /warm anything at all (maybe they are sold out). If I cannot find a gold wig to make more strawberry, I wonder if trying to strawberry up an ash blonde wig would work, or would the ash completely counteract any warm tones? I passed Color theory with flying colors ..but that had nothing to do with ashy colored wigs! ☺💗🙏🌺

    Great job! The color looks so much better after. I was going to use Genetian Violet (an antiseptic) that's inexpensive and is in alcohol. However, my wig that needs this cost $300+. Thanks for the suggestion to try this on an inexpensive wig first. You just saved my bacon! Hmm, what cute inexpensive wig can I practice on? You probably seen CysterWig's Felix. I bet you'd look great in that one if you haven't tried it already. I tried it in Harlow Blond R and it surprised me how cute it looks. The rooting looks much redder on camera than it is IRL. First off you are stunning. Your skin, everything, just beautiful. Now I am a pro in the hair field but retired. I never learned about wigs. I was trying to find what to do because I just bought 3 of the wigs go for it by Raquel Welch. I wind up with the wrong color and way to yellow. I like you am very cool. I need to try and do this. It could open up a whole new world for me if this works. Or should I say I do a good job. This is mono and lace front. But because it is rooted maybe I can just bring it up to the roots and leave it. This would most likely dye the lace right. Otherwise I will wear it out and pretend I look great, lol, who cares I'm in my 60s.

    I have light olive skintone with green veins. put me in ANYTHING warm ad I look like a umpalumpa , my skin becomes grellow and my hair looks greasy its not a good look. the more ashy or creamy beige or neutral a tone can be the better it is. Those super popular red tones from RW are my nightmare. People tell me I look great, but they dont see what the enhancement of cooler tones does to the skin for me and how much more comfortable I feel. Also the warmer tones make me look yellow and people think thats enhancing my tone. its not, its creating a weird hue....Ive worked with skin and hair for 36 years and I know I truly shine in coler tones. AND can get away with some warmer browner tones , specially when I have a tan.....yellow blond is a NO go. Blond colour comes from yellow and brown from red so people struggle with yellow blond and red brunettes :D here in Norway they are allergic to warmth - even if some can get away with it. Still some cant and want ashier tones and cooler browns want. So excited about this video- SOOO good. can you do this with a lacefront? cause Im thinking that would be coloured aswell right? I have a red wig i would love to tone doen the aweful red . This is going on my page : )

      I haven't done this to a lace front yet, mostly because I prefer a standard cap, but I'm pretty sure it would tint the lace. Maybe there's a way to tape off the lace and protect it (like when you tape off the ceiling to paint the wall). Thanks for watching.

    I am so glad I found this video. This technique might save a wig that I had written off.
    On a very pale blonde, would you recommend the violet ink as opposed to black ink? I don’t want purple or pink hair.
    Thank you.

    • @texanadeb
      @texanadeb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I tried this and it works! DO NOT use black ink, it will make it grey. The use of purple will tone down the yellow as those colors are opposite on the color wheel, that may not make sense but I'm an artist and this is what we use to tone down paint colors. Just follow her instructions, you will not have a purple wig, just a less brassy color. FYI, I used one ink dropper full in 16oz of 70% alcohol in a large bowl, it made a slight difference that I was happy with.

      @@texanadeb Thank you so much for suggesting a full dropper full of ink to 16 oz of alcohol. I was going to try two drops of ink. That wouldn’t have been enough. Thx for clarifying. 😊

    This is great info! What do you mean about fabric softener, like how much and why?

    • @christinemcgraw8710
      @christinemcgraw8710  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use fabric softener to wash my wigs rather than synthetic wig shampoo. Just put a little in some warm water, swish it around, then rinse. It's away any ink residue.

    • @christinemcgraw8710
      @christinemcgraw8710  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fabric softener is what I use to wash all my wigs. I just put a little in a bowl with warm water, let the wig soak, then rinse it out. If the wig is at all crunchy from the ink after you tone it, you can do the same thing.

    Hello! Thank you for this- what alcohol % did you use? Wondering if it matters…😊

  • @JanCummings
    @JanCummings 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently bought a PY wig, style is Dance, but I chose the wrong blonde rooted color. The blonde is almost a white against a very dark, almost black root. I prefer dark blondes/lt brown shades to an almost sandy blonde. Would I use a drop or two to tone down the white, and a few extra drops to make it a light grey shade? Honestly, I can’t tell if I’m a warm or cool shade. My veins are not very visible. They might show a more greenish tone, but I still don’t know what all that means.
    Thx in advance for your advice.

      Yes. That is possible. In a dark container with a screw lid. Store in a cool place. If the color has separated a little: shake well and then add a little alcohol.

    Based on the color wheel, if a wig is too orangy, should I use green to get rid of the orange?

    • @deborahahonen6949
      @deborahahonen6949 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the opposite of orange is blue, and the opposite of red is green, so to get rid of orange you need blue.

      Synthetic only. There are purple products for human hair that you’d use on human hair wigs.
