    Greetings. The answer is determined by dividing 32 by 75 and multiplying the result 100. The answer works out to 42. 6 recurring which would be rounded to 42.7% and or simply 42% which would yield 31.5 if you find 42% of 75.

  • @pecanpress8516
    @pecanpress8516 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Waaaaay too complicated and long. I'm a math teacher too. You have to make the problem relatable to their understanding, not mechanically procedural as this guy does. For that problem, I just say "percent" means "per hundred" like "per century." There are 100 years in a century. Right? So, we want to know "what amount" per 100 is the same as 32 to 75? Blah blah blah. Set up two fractions and cross multiply. Yes, I left out some explanation but it's really a simple and short teaching demonstration without all of the nonsense of "move the decimal point," multiply, divide, and by the way "here are some ways to do it wrong" which just confuses kids. This guy's explanation is a mechanical rules based methodical procedure which students won't remember because it relates to nothing they already know and is just "memorize this."

      I find a percentage in a simple method.
      What percent of 75 is 32?
      X percent of 75 =32
      X/100×75 =32
      X/4×3= 32
      We should do the cross multiplication.
      3x/4 = 32/1
      3x=128
      X = 128÷3

    I think you did a good job of explaining the how - but I would like to see more of the why to understand it better. For example, WHY do we multiply the answer times 100 for the final answer and WHY did we move the decimal point to the left when solving the problem. I know the answer, but someone like my grandson would not understand this. I think they need to know more about the role that the tens and hundreds place value holds in order to understand this better. Thank you for your help.

    A much much simpler way to solve this that would only take 1 or 2 minutes, not 13
    could be:
    32 is x% of 75.
    So x*75/100 = 32.
    So 75x = 3200
    So X = 3200/75 = 42+2/3
    I could say all this very quickly and clearly.

    I tried working this out my own way but my brain kept flipping the damn figure on me and instead of working plain "32" I kept doing calculations based on 32% which was screwing everything up.
    I eventually gave up when I realized that half of 75 is 37½ and 32 is just less 5½ of that, so 32 is slightly less than 50% - and that's good enough.
    More accurately, it's probably around the 43% mark. I got more important things to do than waste hours of my time on hypothetical math problems that do not affect my income or budget, so until it does - screw it. FINAL ANSWER : 32 is IDGAF% of 75.
    EDIT : Last try :
    I made 75 into 750 (75 multiplied by 10), cos if 32% of 100 is 32, then just multiply 32 x7 which = 224. And of the remaining 50, if 50 is half of 100 then that 32 would be halved as well, to be 16. Add 16 to the product of 224 = 240. Divide 240 by 10 to undo the original tenfold calculation and that leaves 24.
    So,my final answer is : 32% of 75 is 24.
    And if that aint right, then I give up. I got other more satisfying things on which to waste what little time remains of my life.

    I can't justify spending thirteen minutes watching this as the answer is straightforward and took me about fifteen seconds. Seventy five is three quarters of a hundred, three quarters of thirty-two is twenty-four. Ergo: the answer is 24%. I have a grade three CSE in maths (yes, it has an S, because it's a contraction of 'mathematics') which is not really very impressive, but I am numerate and have a lifetime of experience in applying simple and practical calculations to everyday problems. I left school at sixteen, unable to do long-division, but I was forced to learn this when I had to calculate overtime and bonus rates as a shop steward in order to check that I and others were being paid the correct amount. What is required is not some special technique or 'trick' to make this kind of calculation, but very basic numeracy and familiarity with using numbers. I regret not paying attention to my maths teachers in secondary school and if I met her today I would apologise for being an inattentive and ungrateful student, but the idea that maths requires specialist knowledge is elitist and damaging for most people. Teach people basic numeracy and mathematical literacy at an early age and they will develop the skills necessary to do simple calculations like this. There is no need to overcomplicate it.

    Great tutorial video! I would also like to add, that many students slip and think the "part" will always be the smaller number of the two.
    Look out for key words like "of" to determine the "whole" in the fraction.
    ( % = part /whole)
    Ex: 150 is what percent **of** 50?
    It's referring to % = 150 / 50 or further put % = (150 ÷ 50) x100 (or just move the decimal two spaces to the right)
    1) 150/50 = 3
    (Think of it as 3.0)
    2) 3.0 x 100 (or just move the decimal two spaces to the right) = 300.0 = 300%
    150 is 300% of 50

      I had a similar thought -- multiply 75 by 4 to get 300 (because percent is per hundred, and you want a multiple of 100), so multiply 32 also by 4 for 128. Then, divide 300 by 3 to get down to 100 and then also divide 128 by 3 to get that number down to 42.666 which is the "per hundred" percent. That guy includes too much extraneous information. (But still, I do it an even easier way than what I just described.)

    32 is what % of 75?
    75/100 = 0.75
    0.75 X 32 = 24
    32 is 24% of 75.
    No Algebra Required.

    I logged into YT just so I could leave a comment/question. With all due respect WHY did it take 8 full minutes to answer the problem in the video title?!?! As a teacher why was the fastest route not an option? It is often times maddening that in education taking the long route is more acceptable than the most expedient. I appreciate the answer 🤣 but all the talking before it to me, was just was not necessary or could have been added AFTER the original answer. And again, zero disrespect just giving my own opinion here ❤️🙏🏾

    I got 42.6666%recurring. Firstly I divided 32/75 by pen and paper. That gives me 1% or 0.42666666 Multiply by 100 = 42.66666_%

    Well, to get 75 to a hundred (because percent means per hundred) we simply divide by 3 and times by 4.
    So we do the same to 32 and we get ten and two thirds, times by 4 is 40, plus eight thirds, (2.666 recurring), so the answer is 42.666. recurring.
    Just sayin'.

    10% of 75 is 7.5...
    1% is .75
    Rest you can figure out by table of 7...
    So 30 is basically 40%
    Rest 2 is just a bit (.75+.75 = 1.5) above 2%
    There you go...

    Dude, cut to the chase!
    For starters, you shouldn't be explaining what a percentage is, because if a person has no idea what a percentage is, then they have no right doing this problem.
    Secondly, why not focus more on how one gets from the word problem of "32 is what percent of 75" to an equation that can be solved?
    In this case, what's being asked is "what number times 75 will equal 32? Then that "what number" becomes 'X', and thus you have 75X = 32. Now just solve for X.
    You present nice problems and have good enthusiasm, but you need to stop the rambling on, and focus on what's really important in understanding the problem at hand.

    Choosing relative primes stinks IMO. It teaches students to expect questions that depend on a calculator or doing long division.
    (eg. 30 as a % of 75 would be much simpler to compute without a calculator while still illustrating the important idea that 2/5 = 0.40 which is 40%.)

  • @MrMousley
    @MrMousley ปีที่แล้ว

    This is how I would do a % question like this ..
    32 is ? % of 75
    Well ... 1% of 75 is 0.75
    So the answer is 32/0.75 .. or in this case to avoid a calculator
    32/(3/4) >> 128/3 >> 42 2/3

    Jeez... you can see that 75 is one third (25) l less than 100 so add one third of 32 to it and you're there. 32 + 10.666 etc. = 42.66....
    He's a mathematician, he'd see that quicker and more clearly than I do. Why not explain it like that?
