I just made some pupusas, and my advice on making them is that the dough must be very moist, and the fillings should not be cold. For instance the cheese should be semi-melted so that it has a smooth consistency.

I'm half and half too!! I can make baleadas because my mom has taught me but my salvi family doesn't cook, so my grandma always try to cook our food by looking it up 🤣

I absolutely LOVE this cooking series! I was RAISED by my grandparents from birth so watching Curly cook with his grandmother makes me so happy. My granddaddy died in 2015 from Cancer and My grandmother died this year 2018 of Cancer as well. Thank God they were my parents ! I am forever grateful ! Watching people cook with their loved ones brings back good memories :)

What many people dont understand is that " los abuelitos " After having been around life in the harshest of times can be so supportive of us regarding our personal choices, throught thick and thin they're always there and it's a blessing having them around. Some parents particularly the older, are just as beautiful, maybe those generations really went through things that would make anything else than the love and support for us, irrelevant! I’m half Puerto Rican and half Salvadorian. My salvi grandmother has to be coerced into teaching me to make pupusas. She’s never withheld from me that she couldn’t fully love me because she didn’t like that I’m half Puerto Rican. I’m at the point where I don’t really care anymore since I’ve never had her love but listening to Curly express so much appreciation and love for his grandmother really got to me. Pupusas really are the only thing that keeps me tethered to part of myself
If you’re grandma still hasn’t taught you, I will teach you virtually! I love pupusas my mom taught me when I was 17 and I have made them for years. They are big in Guatemala also 🇬🇹. I grew up mom Canada and there weren’t as many authentic latin food places growing up so learning how to make it was important to me

OMG I loved this video. I learned to make Pupusas a while ago. From my Saldadorean friend. I’m Mexican. We trade off recipes all the time. These are so good my family loves them! You made me hungry. When you started getting choked up I lost it. I was right there with you. That’s how I feel about my Mama , she’s passed and she’s the one who taught me how cook. It’s true nothing written down no measuring cups . All from sight. I still cook like this to this day. It’s the best! Keeping family traditions alive. I’m so happy to see this. The way Curly described his relationship with his abuela makes me think of how close my daughter was with my mom... and how hard it is now that her grandma has passed😢 So good to see elders being loved and appreciated when theyre still in our midst❤️❤️❤️
My aunt made some years ago and I have never tasted any worse than hers lmao. My mom on the other hand makes the best pupusas, she is Mexican and she learn to make them because my dad is Salvadorian and loves them. I’ve tasted many in El Salvador but none compare to my moms.. I think it’s cause she adds a little Mexican in it lol. Pupusas is always a crowd pleaser for both sides of my family.

A very dear friend of mine is from El Salvador & he introduced me to pupusas about 15 years ago. They are now one of my absolute favorite foods on the planet. The curtido...💥💣🧨. We have a Pupuseria here in SF that makes some of the best in the city. Love to see you & abuelita!!
My aunt learned how to make them from her bff who is from El Salvador. She then taught my mom. They’re so delicious! A recent Salvadoran joint just opened up across the street and from what I’ve heard the pupusas are delicious. I need to check em out asap
Sadly I don’t actually remember eating Papusas, since my father (who is El Salvadorian) passed away, so I haven’t had Salvadorian food in a long time, but lots of love from a fellow El Salvadorian!!

My daughter came home with some of these today. After work she stopped by this new in town tiny store and brought them home. Freaking awesome. They looked simple enough and I recognized most of the ingredients simply by tasting- immediately researched how to make them which ultimately brought me here. I am making them tomorrow even though to get them right you need practice and a little love from your Mother/Grandmother as special ingredients to make them special. I hope mine are half as good. I agree, the dough HAS to be moist. I usually wet my hands when making them if they start drying out. Keep the dough covered between making them.

My aunt learned how to make them from her bff who is from El Salvador. She then taught my mom. They’re so delicious! A recent Salvadoran joint just opened up across the street and from what I’ve heard the pupusas are delicious. I need to check em out asap

Sadly I don’t actually remember eating Papusas, since my father (who is El Salvadorian) passed away, so I haven’t had Salvadorian food in a long time, but lots of love from a fellow El Salvadorian!!

My daughter came home with some of these today. After work she stopped by this new in town tiny store and brought them home. Freaking awesome. They looked simple enough and I recognized most of the ingredients simply by tasting- immediately researched how to make them which ultimately brought me here. I am making them tomorrow even though to get them right you need practice and a little love from your Mother/Grandmother as special ingredients to make them special. I hope mine are half as good.
