That spring replacement idea never occurred to me before, it's so simple and yet I've never thought of it! That would have come in handy so many times in the past. Thanks for sharing!
That was some fine work there! I've been looking for smaller tech repair channels to watch for a while now, though all I seem to find 80% of the time is either clickbait or the person has no idea what they are doing. So im glad I was able to find your channel. Keep up the great work!
Lovely relaxing teardown and cleanup, enjoyed watching and may be using this as a semi-cleanup guide in the future when I move to RGH the elite that just came in the mail. Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I found an oddity, a Jasper 1 board with a Kronos board from July 2009, and I'm using this guide to help me safely take apart and clean this.
I've got a refurbished Zephyr that was serviced I 2009 around the time the Jaspers were released. I found a Jasper last week loose for under 20 dollars but I want to run the refurbished one for the winter.
Yes he does! The patients, the temperament to sit there and move the camera and make all these positions happen! Also not to mention that he has a great camera, unlike most mediocre TH-cam channels.
The way you cut your videos looks great. I should probably implement something like that in my videos to make them not so lengthy. Great job with that spring by the way! DIY is always best.
Mine's a near mint 2009 serviced Zephyr. I just bought I the other week so I haven't played it a whole lot, but she works. Today, I bought a late 2009 black Elite Jasper for twenty bucks! Half price early bird special today apparently. I was surprised I found one in the wild two weeks after I bought a used Arcade Zephyr and 2011 Slim Corona for 75 Canadian all in with two controllers. Not bad I'd say over the last two weeks.
@@CliffNarkglad to hear about the reliability of the refurbished Zephyrs. I intend on using the Zephyr over the Jasper this winter after I open and clean it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it fares as a 17 plus year-old refurbed console. Can I play it before repasting it? Will it just error and shut down without any serious irreversible ramifications?
@@CliffNark one more question if you don't mind. My 2011 Slim Corona I'm apprehensive about using as I've heard about the 4gb onboard memory failing. Should I look into selling it and keep my reliable fat Jasper and Zephyr revision? What's the failure rate of 4gb Corona Slims?
4:54: are those maggots🤢 good job on fixing this console, i've noticed that almost every jasper/jasper v2 has the exact same issues as yours (extremely dusty or dead disc drive), yet they still work, but i've seen Xenon and Zephyrs have RROD or not even turn on that have no dust or very little use. really shows how Microsoft improved the 360 as the years went by
The issue wasn't even heat in the first place. Yes, it was heat-related, but it had absolutely nothing to do with the peak temperature, but rather the fact that it would heat up and cool down when the console was turned on or off respectively. The GPU's die was connected to the substrate/interposer through a bunch of microscopic solder bumps (they're SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the solder balls on the BGA itself) that are usually protected against issues with an underfill underneath the die. However, ATI (who made the chips for the 360) used the wrong type of underfill that would fail and cause the GPU to stop working. A lot of people have tried to "fix" the issue by doing reballs/reflows, however, these were only temporary and the issue would usually come back within 2-3 months. The late-Falcons/Opus, all Jasper V1s, and especially the Jasper V2s had fixed versions of the GPU that had the correct underfill and therefore wouldn't fail. Some Xenons that were sent in after a certain period of time would also get a fixed GPU known as the 80nm Elpis.
