    check out Herzog Zwei. It's the best RTS game of the 16-bit era

      Poverty Gamer , I'll go as far and say the best RTS of all time. Every rts since then has borrowed shamelessly from it. Sure, Blizzard has great rts computer titles. But Herzog Zwei rules over all, even today.

      @gilnelson3217 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was remade for modern consoles under the name airmech arena . Herzog is one of my all time faves.

    Gotta say Greendog, it’s never mentioned on any hidden gem videos and it’s a cool game. Cool beach music for its sound track, a frisbee as your weapon and decent graphics.

    The Immortal John is awesome! Always dropping some serious SEGA knowledge on titles I've never heard about. Looking forward to many more, thanks MJR.

    MetalJesus easily has one of the best gaming channels on TH-cam. Your videos are timeless. I can go back to watch videos from years ago (this one's more recent obviously) and still enjoy it and learn more about collecting.

    Man I love the Genesis SNES and TurboGrafx 16 era! It's when games went from looking pretty good on the NES to looking awesome on the three mentioned above! What a great time! And because of u guys I started collecting for the Genesis, and hopefully the other two 16 bit consoles as well!!!!! Great job guys!!!!

    John Hancock and I will make a SEGA GENESIS BUYING GUIDE soon... what Top 10 MUST OWN games would you recommend? Not necessarily hidden gems...but if you had to only own 10, what would they be?

    • @ScorchioMK7
      @ScorchioMK7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thunder Force IV for sure. That game has it all.

    • @tamborsitosify

      Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Earthworm Jim, Sonic 2, Truxton, Ghouls n Ghosts, TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Ghostbusters, Space Harrier 2, NBA Jam T.E.

    • @nickolasecker9596

      1. Gunstar Heroes, 2. Thunder Force IV (aka Lightening Force), 3. Streets of Rage 2, 4. Contra Hard Corps, 5. M.U.S.H.A, 6. Sonic the Hedgehog 2, 7. Strider, 8. Shining Force II, 9. Mickey's Castle of Illusion, 10. Castlevania Bloodlines. Honorable mentions: TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Rocket Knight Adventures, Revenge of Shinobi, Road Rash, Truxton.

    • @MrJoe0806
      @MrJoe0806 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would recommend the Shining Force series. They are great strategy RPG's.

    • @Moulinex666

      Gunstar Heroes, Castlevania, Sonic, Sonic 2, Shining Force 2, Streets of Rage 2, Wonderboy V, Mortal Kombat 2, world of illusion starring Mickey and Donald, Golden Axe, Moonwalker, Strider (10 is not enough :) )

  • @Metal-Gear-Moogle

    Ranger x has really weird controls which may turn some people away, but once you get used to how it plays, it's easily one of the best games on the Genesis

    I know this was an older video but it made me happy to see Target Earth get some love. One of my first Genesis games, and I played the hell out of it.

    Soldiers of Fortune. Originally known as The Chaos Engine in the UK and Europe, it was first published on the Amiga, before being ported to the Genesis, Super Nintendo, MS-DOS, Atari ST and Risc OS. Genesis version seems to be the closest to the Amiga in my view. And it's awesome. Two players, or single player and CPU assist. Steampunk shoot-em-up. What's not to love?

  • @namayake
    @namayake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent video, MJR! I'm very pleasantly surprised you included Ranger X in this video. Awesome game and unfortunately too often overlooked. Some other hidden gems you might check out in the future:
    - Beyond Oasis (arabian themed action/rpg)
    - Crusader of Centy (action/rpg Zelda clone)
    - Skeleton Crew (isometric run n' gun)
    - Misadventures of Flink (platformer)
    - Wings of Wor (ancient Greece themed side scrolling shmup)
    - Phelios (Ancient Greece themed overhead shmup)
    - Gaiares (side scrolling shmup)
    - Hellfire (side scrolling shmup)
    And here's a few (unfortunately expensive)Japanese exclusives:
    - Alien Soldier (run n' gun/boss rush)
    - Eliminate Down (side scrolling shmup)
    - Gleylancer (side scrolling shmup)
    - Panorama Cotton (3D shooter somewhere between Space Harrier & Star Fox)

    Ranger X has to be played on a SNES or modern controller. Mapping back and forward to the L and R buttons is the only way to go.

    Man, when I saw the list in the description, I was looking for to see what Mr. Hancock would say about Ranger-X. That is a game that I discovered because of Classic Game Room and became one of my favorites for the Genesis. Very nice choice!
    Edit: the entire list is great (I really love these Genesis episodes), I just have a soft spot for Ranger-X now.

    I've said it before but I have to mention it again! John Hancock is a very polite and truthful. I'm always smiling while watch him on this channel. I thumbed up the video before watching it because I know that it will be awesome. Not that others aren't good! They are all great but I think john is the best cohost on this channel. Metal Jesus is great as always.

      Tom Wilson I'll be going to white-collar/people prison. I don't think there would be an issue with Mexican cartels... or scoring drugs inside the prison. Anyway, I'd rather somebody stayed on top of MetalJesus' video game stock tips, I'm going to need start up cash once I get out.

    EVERYTHING Electronic Arts touched in this era was gold -- NBA Live, Madden set the bar for sports games -- but the other stuff was mind-blowing. I wasted so much time on Buck Rogers, General Chaos, Road Rash III, and Haunting starring Polterguy-- so much glorious time!
    There was also one game I had -- an EA Title -- it was a Sega CD game. A strategy title that played like Command and Conquer, but set in medieval times, IIRC. All I remember was that you had to keep killing sheep to feed your warriors, and the game was extremely prone to crashing. Even the crashing could not stop me from playing.
    Besides the Electronic Arts titles, Cool Spot, Flashback and Caesar's Palace were three other games that repelled girls out of my dorm room back in the day.
    But, yeah, EA ruled.

    Dont know if its very hidden, but it is a gem. Truxton or Tatsujin(as it is known in Japan) was my favorite game growing up.

    Master of Weapon I think is a hidden gem on Genesis. A shmup that originally came out in the arcade in 1989 and got ported to the Genesis in 1991 I believe? It's pretty similar to Xevious. What I really liked about the game was the sound.
