Word of advice for those who play Beyond Oasis. Please keep yourself sane and don't bother trying to get the infinite fire crossbow. The race you need to do for it is rage-inducing imo.
Most of these are well known games, i would consider "hidden gems" something like Arrow Flash, Atomic Runner, Havoc, Bubba 'n' Stix, Chiki Chiki Boys, Flink, Sub-Terrania, Arcus Odyssey, Tinhead, Battlemania games, Undeadline or Twinkle Tale. But i will give you kudos for Mazin Saga, nobody talks about this amazing game.
At least he didn't mention Comix Zone, a game that might have been a "hidden gem" for about a decade or so until it started being included on every freaking Genesis/Mega Drive retro collection but most Genesis/Mega Drive "hidden gem" lists still seem to include it.
I can’t state how stoked I was seeing Blades of Vengeance listed here, as that legitimately is one of the biggest hidden gems on the Genesis! Also, I finally now know the name of a game I rented once and couldn’t remember…Mazin Saga. That was definitely a good one too that I now want to revisit! Awesome video man!
A person of taste! Mazin Saga Mutant Fighter is definitely one of the greatest unknown Genesis games. So is Blades. Jewel Master, El Viento and Ranger X are as well.
I’ve always been on the hunt for good retro games for many many years so I am quite familiar with the usual line up. Still, I always like to check out recent videos just in case I missed something. Thanks for recommending Alisia Dragoon and Blade of Vengeance
Played Pulseman using the Nintendo Switch online service and had a blast. Really good stage design, soundtrack and fun boss fights. You can feel the sonic influence but it's not so much that it feels like a carbon copy.
Love these kind of videos. I keep a list of Genesis games I'm on the prowl for when at the retro game stores, and I added a few to the list - Pulseman and Mazin Saga were new to me and both look great. Thanks for digging these up.
Awesome list however i would add Ranger X. Before those mini consoles very few people even heard of it. That always blew my mind. I for sure agree with Crusader of centy and Dynamite Heady. Both are two very over looked game's which is strange because Dynamite Heady actually was a pack for a bit.
I remember Blades of Vengeance, though I never got very far when I was a kid. Most of the others I never heard of, even though I had the Sega Channel back in the day. A few favorites on the list though! Dynamite Headdy? YOU'VE GOT A SECRET BONUS POINT! Pulseman? VOLTECCER! Beyond Oasis? *FRENZIED KICKING SOUNDS*
I was always interested in Crusader of Centy, though the high price tag kept me at bay. I may still consider looking into it, but I'm satisfied with other games. Mazin Saga looks pretty fun! I've never seen any Mazinger Z episodes but I'm addicted to the theme song lol! That Yu Yu Hakusho game continues to intrigue me! The graphics look pretty and I'm a big fan of the anime so I'm always on the lookout for any fun games in the franchise. Pulseman always looked fun too! I keep forgetting about it. I have heard about Beyond Oasis from another TH-cam show, it looks right up my alley!
This list is epic. Pity some of thee game on original format is eye watering but dam 4th Gen was epic times. Wish I could go back and relive those classic years
As an avid Sega Genesis lover and speedrunner these are all really good games. Crusader of Centy, Blades of Vengeance, Dynamite Headdy, Pulseman, Beyond Oasis and Alisia Dragoon all have really crazy speedruns. Almost all of them are highly skill based with some glitch exploitation. A true testament to speedrunning.
Have you ever heard of Twinkle Tale? It's a topdown shooter in the style of Pocky and Rocky. Unfortunately it lever left Japan so it's expensive as all hell.
Just noticed Panorama Cotton in a indie xbox sale this week. Looking at the game footage, I was confused. “Space Harrier?” I thought the Cotton games were all horizontal SEU’s?
Excellent job, thank you. I had to add every game to my list except Dynamite Headddy. You even managed to find a game that was never uploaded to my favorite site, possibly a first.
Sad that the Genesis is so underappreciated today, that many of it's most valuable/desirable/collectible games are considered hidden gems. 😢 There are many more deeper cuts in the library that are high quality. Hope to see more Genesis from TVGS!
Underappreciated? What are you smoking? 39.1 millions sales was high back in the 90s. Have you seen how fanatical Genesis owners are in the west? Its like Sega never went nearly bankrupt in the 2000s.
Nice list but maybe you should mention when a game is Japan exclusive (like Pulseman) to Keep our expectations in check when we considering a game worthy to track down
I Own complete MAzin Wars/saga it is decent but the beat em up levels could be a bit better, it was cool that the boss fights were side scrolling street fighter style . PULSEMAN is game freak's only other good game. Some i would say aare gems are things like Buck Rogers, Techno Clash,Traysia, Exile
Dynamite Heady and Beyond Oasis are not hidden. They tend to be on every Genesis compilation since the 360/PS3. Mazin Saga and Blades of Vengeance are not talked about much. Add Marvel Land and Atomic Runner, or Growl, then you have a list there!
Truly a time from the Wild West of video games. I feel that the developers who chose the Genesis were truly entrepreurs who were really excited to push videogames to new heights.
Most of these are only hidden gems if you're a complete beginner to the MD library and even then, stuff like Beyond Oasis, Crusader of Centy and Dynamite Headdy show up on 'best of' lists all the time. Real hidden gems like Chiki Chiki Boys, Skeleton Krew, Undeadline and Phantom 2040 should be on this list instead.
Pulseman never caught on because deafness stupid enough to Only have it on the sega Channel.! Instead of releasing the game after few months of the sega channel and having commercials on Saturday morning cartoon Channels. Sega should have had their own half an hour with of cartoons stating their game characters.
I think you made a mistake by not displaying both names for certain games from their respective regions. Crusader of Centy is called Soleil in Europe and there is a slight chance that not everybody watching is aware of that.
What is your favourite Genesis/Mega Drive game?
Blades of Vengeance! Thank you for covering it I was hoping you'd get to it some day and you didn't disappoint!
@brianquint6126 had a lot of fun playing it!
Dynamite Headdy ^_^
Could you use chapters, plz? :)
It's my opinion but i really love Landstalker this was the game that made me appreciate the adventure RPG games later.
Blades of Vengeance has been in my top 3 since I purchased it almost 3 decades ago.
Streets of Rage 2 is still my #1 fave.
Word of advice for those who play Beyond Oasis. Please keep yourself sane and don't bother trying to get the infinite fire crossbow. The race you need to do for it is rage-inducing imo.
Been a long while, I remember it being hard to get but not that traumatic.
Not that hard compared to the infinite Omega Sword though or the infinite ATM Crossbow.
@@Cloud971 , et al, it's a good idea to not listen to your unwarranted, uncalled for, and needless advice as well.
Even on old hardware you always find something new to enjoy
Cheers Sam!

Bubble 'N Squeak, Arrow Flash, Predator 2 & Blaster Master 2 are less well known/hidden gems as well, despite 2 of those being well known IPs.
Master of Monsters, Wings of Wor, Powerball, and Whip Rush are four more good ones that get limited attention.
yeah.. this guy just put together some well known stuff and called it a day
At least he didn't mention Comix Zone, a game that might have been a "hidden gem" for about a decade or so until it started being included on every freaking Genesis/Mega Drive retro collection but most Genesis/Mega Drive "hidden gem" lists still seem to include it.
Didn’t owned a Genesis but my cousins owned one, the one that I remember the most is Boogerman, at this day at the age of 46 still love this title 😅
Never heard of that one! I’ll have to check it out.
@@thatvideogamesshow da hell, is not a must but definitely you need to play it, the full name is Boogerman: A Pick and Flick Adventure
Thanks for the tip!
Crusader of centry I'm playing it and it's very good. It's a shame that the sega has many forgotten games.

Alisia Dragoon is great, made by the Game Arts people...yes the studio responsible for the Grandia games, epic stuff

Good shout, I'll add it in for part 2!
I second Ranger X. So much detail and a lot of different gameplay mechanics not many other games tried at the time.
Beyond Oasis is one of my all time fav games!
We’re taking it back with the Sega Genesis 16-Bit time with TVGS I still have Crusader of Centy and Beyond Oasis good games
All good games! Some ive always wanted to play but haven't been able to yet! 🤘 Another great video my man! Thanks!

Only one Panorama Cotton title was a side-scrolling game, and the game that you showed in the video was essentially a good Space Harrier clone.
Nice list and love Mazin Saga would have love a 2 player Co op
By the way - Crusader of Centy was sold as a "region exclusive" in Europe under the name "Soleil", and in Japan it was known as Ragnacënty.

Some real gems on this list ♥️ Great video as ever
Glad you enjoyed!
Really brilliant video as per usual. Thank you.

Panorama cotton looks amazing, lot going on and colorful.
It really is!
Have you ever heard of Twinkle Tale?
It's a topdown shooter in the style of Pocky and Rocky.
Unfortunately it lever left Japan so it's expensive as all hell.
Many of these hidden gems I believe are also on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive Collection too, not just NSO
Thanks for the recommendations.
Any time!
Just noticed Panorama Cotton in a indie xbox sale this week.
Looking at the game footage, I was confused. “Space Harrier?” I thought the Cotton games were all horizontal SEU’s?
Fun Fact: Pulseman was made by Game Freak, back when they weren't pretty much doing only video games for Nintendo.
"Pulseman is easy on the eyes"
[meanwhile the epilepsy inducing stage backgrounds of the digital realm]
Just in time. Read that I had to rename .md files to .gen for them to play on the ds. Let's see what I missed going through the genesis library.
Excellent job, thank you. I had to add every game to my list except Dynamite Headddy. You even managed to find a game that was never uploaded to my favorite site, possibly a first.
You forgot that really obscure game, Streets of Rage 2! A hidden gem if I ever knew one
Yeah, and sonic the hedgehog
truly the best.. hidden gem!
I bet you don't know Mortal Kombat 2, truly one of the hidden gem ever
Great video. Beyond Oasis was a great game. My favorite "gem" has to be Landstalker, that game does not get enough love.
I'll check it out for part 2!
Eliminate Down for a good price?! That will be just £1000 then rather than the usual higher price…
1st game looks dope!!
Well worth playing!
Dang no gain ground
Sega Genesis is the greatest console that is ever made i still enjoy mine in 2024😊
Whats the music on the intro? I know it so so well, but can't place it... Playstation fighting game?
Even if the console has a lower colour palette compared to the SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive games can be really colourful at times.
And the music can be better than SNES sometimes e.g, Streets of Rage 2
How did i get my sega of the USS Shennandoah ad44? Shipmate put in a back pack and slung it off the ship.
to be honest, i'm pretty sure every good game on the sega genesis that isn't sonic would classify as a hidden gem
Tin head is a hidden gem on Sega Genesis.
I have all the games that showed here in the video, i love mega drive
Such a great console!
