      Actually in Tanzer you must keep those orbs "alive" if you want the good ending: I think those orbs have kidnapped people inside and you must keep them(they're basically jump blocker you're not supposed to jump on them)...otherwise the ending will be like "Ok you win but there is no one alive to see that"

      Yeah, I missed Legend of Wukong, my bad.
      Star Odyssey I didn't count because I don't consider it a limited release. It's the same reason why I didn't include the re-release of Megaman Willy Wars or Mega Turrican.

    Great review! I have two suggestions for next videos (maybe about other platforms?)
    1) Always mention the year of the release, as this makes a lot of difference. Development tools evolve considerably.
    2) Use the black bars on the sides to always display the game title. This way you won't have to go back to check it if you forgot while was paying attention to the graphic and sound details

    • @st1ka
      @st1ka  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Oh those are some nice sugestions, I hadn't considered that. Thank you for that. If it helps, you can check the timestamps for the name of the game too :)

    • @amerikaOnFire
      @amerikaOnFire ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@st1ka You taking the time to do the timestamps is greatly appreciated. But I second both of these suggestions as it makes it much easier to simply see the game name and even year it was made. _Tanglewood._
    I knew I loved this game dearly. First played it during the lockdown times- but I didn't realize quite how much of an impact it had on me until I got chills hearing the title screen theme here. There really _isn't_ another game like it on the platform, and there aren't a lot of games like it in general. What a beautiful journey that game is.
    I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of these games I haven't heard of- I thought I'd done a pretty good job keeping up with what's been going on with new Genesis/Megadrive titles, but there's SO much here for me to dig into. Thanks for this!

    Pier Solar, Life on Mars: Genesis, Brave Battle Saga - Legend of the Magic Warrior, Demons of Asteborg, Ultracore and Paprium. I'd like Fx Unit Yuki but heard it only works on Model 1 Genesis's and I only got a Model 2
    I backed Affinity Sorrow and The Black Jewel Reborn when the Kickstarters were on.

    My cousin had a Mega Drive (or as we know in China, Sega 5th Generation) and Canon, so I played the (BEEP) out of it when he visit my home back in the day. That game had surprising amount of secret in it, where multiple maps has hidden treasure chest you can find that give you 1 level up items.
    The way to deal with the constant respawn enemy in later stages is leave a sacrifice member behind to attract their attention while your main part go forward. And it becomes extremely easy once the female main character level up enough to get a magic which let you revive your party member in the map, and equip her with that auto MP recovery item. Also, the last stage/boss is legitimately the easiest in any game as you get two respawn enemies where one drops you HP recovery, the other give you MP recovery item. And you can basically endlessly send kamikaze characters to bomb the final boss (who can't move), and revive them when they die.

    Great video! In my opinion, Pulseman has the best voice acting on the console. A TV news host and a radio buddy both get the job done! There is also some football games with commentary, but I haven't played them.
    You can use those rocks of Edessot to attack flying monsters (we actually added that to balance things out at the start of the game), and almost all magic attacks and many stronger normal attacks work on them too. Yeah, I should have written an NPC with some directions where Alina went, sorry about that! Next game won't have this problem for sure!

There’s one I didn’t see here and absolutely love called Omega Blast. It’s a caravan only 3min vertical shooter so it’s not a full game per se, it’s for playing for high score. Mega Drive exclusive and it’s free. But it’s sooo much fun and one of the best caravan levels I’ve ever played. We even did a competition for it a couple years ago and everyone loved it. *_D&D_* has such a large community, that frankly I'm _SHOCKED_ that nobody has done a romhack OR homebrew of *_Dungeons & Dragons - Warriors of the Eternal Sun._*
      ...Controversial opinion here, but *_D&D WOTES_* is absolutely amazing, imo !!! ...And frankly, since we were cheated out of a great *_Star Trek_* game and they just gave us mediocre titles instead, I think a *_Star Trek_* themed romhack of *_WOTES_* would be awesome !!! The game has 7 races by default, but it looks like there's room to expand up to 10 races. So, the question arises, what 10 *_Star Trek_* races would YOU add to such a romhack ? And what would your 4 party members be ???
      Me personally, Imma say...
      1. Male Aenarr / Female Betazoid (both Healers with Telepathy).
      2. Male Human / Female Augment
      3. Male Android / Female Borg.
      4. Male Ferengi / Female Changling (both Rogue-like).
      5. Male Klingon / Female Andorian (both Fighters).
      6. Vulcan
      7. Male Denobulan / Female Trill (both Scientists & Medics).
      8. Male Cardassian / Female Bajoran
      9. Male Nausicaan / Female Caitian
      10. Male Gorn / Female Orion
      11. Male Xindi Reptilian / Female Xindi Insectoid.
      Jeez, I cheated hard on that list to fit in extra species... Here's a non-cheated list:
      1. Human
      2. Android
      3. Ferengi
      4. Klingon
      5. Andorian
      6. Aenar
      7. Vulcan
      8. Betazoid
      9. Changling
      10. Borg
      Altho, my four party members would probably Android, Klingon, & Andorian to overpower everything with a Ferengi Rogue to haggle, pick locks, disable traps, & steal stuff :P

    I keep coming back to this video and continue to enjoy it. I finally got into both Metal Dragon and the Beggar Prince and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with both. For Metal Dragon, I'm glad I waited. When it was initially released my expectations were through the roof and it's certainly nothing special but I still found it fun and satisfying. I wish it had some extra boss fights or maybe a vehicle stage or two or you have to control a turret and fight in a gallery shooting style or maybe one level where you don't just walk to the end and maybe have to find a couple of keys. So again, it's okay but really feels like one or two little extra touches would have gone a long way.
    I'm only a few hours into the Beggar Prince but it's a surprisingly fun story with some simple mechanics. Again, nothing extraordinary (and both the music and graphics could be better) but a fun little game. I'm curious to see if I think the fun continues or if it becomes repetitive or I just simply get tired of the story. We'll see.
    I think my updated new Genesis games list would go Xeno Crisis, Demons of Asteborg, Ultracore, Tanzer, Darius, Brave Battle Saga, Metal Dragon, Water Margin, Beggar Prince, Jim Power, Generals of the Yang Family then Switchblade with all of the first 10 games being fun and the last two being duds.

    Spot on about Paprium, haters going to hate the final product. The game is mind-blowing for what it's running on. This came out back in the day that's how I judge games and it would have just rocked the world of 16-bit Genesis gaming and made anyone else on a lot of other platforms very jealous. That's how I judge these new games how would they been perceived in the system's original life cycle. I'm one of the lucky few that got all my copies of paprium and my two sticks. I was also there at the beginning of Pier solar. I really enjoyed that game too with the special tricks with Sega CD aided soundtrack and completed it and thought it was one of the most thought-provoking endings. I'd love to see what Fonzie can do with the Neo Geo, I can only imagine paprium on that platform.

    Some of the Taiwanese games that got discovered years later really needed a lot of bugs to be removed to make them even somewhat playable when they got a modern release. It really does show they were just slapped together to make money.
    Some of the recently released games and ones in development are really benefiting from having such a good software development kit and much better tools that most pcs can access means that so many people are willing to try their hand at making games.

      I made myself a physical copy of the english patch of brave battle saga a long time ago, first time I tried it I ended up playing for 13 hours straight even though I have an incedibly short attention span when it comes to rpg's, it's an absolutely incredible game.
      But my point was that there wasn't any bugs in that version, did Piko release it later? my guess from what I've seen from them is that if there's any bugs they were probably introduced from them poking around. If I owned the rights to Jim Power for example I'd first fix the parallax so it scrolls the right direction, then the inaccurate and disturbing dog legs, and finish the unfinished bossfights, what did they do.. remove the grass animation, awesome improvement 👏

    Spot on with Ultracore , superb game on all levels, graphically the amount of moving stuff onscreen becomes impressive particularly later on when the sprite count gets up - explosions are well detailed and bouncing off enemies is just so much fun and becomes a geniune tactic, sonically its a masterpiece and the soundtrack has a tonne of bangers . You hit the nail on the head , that one spot in the game is the hardest part and could have been a tad easier lol .. the secret parts of the levels add a great challenge and replay value. Ultracore is a top 3 genesis game for me period. Great video St1ka. So many games and so much to say. I hope you don't mind all my comments. Let's start with the good.
    I was thinking you'd go Demons, XenoCrisis, Ultracore, Tanzer and Paprium in some order as the top 5 and seeing the list I'm not too surprised Darius is in that group. I said in your original video I'm so glad to see someone else like this game and I don't understand all the hate it got for the version that was included on the Genesis Mini. As for Demons, I still really, really like it as is but feel like they missed a golden opportunity. This could have been the PERFECT metroidvania if you kept your abilities and having the town as a sort of central hub but even as is I think just one more level before you turn into a demon and that level you get all the abilities and have to use them all that would have put Demons over the top. As for Paprium, I'll take your word for it as it looks like I'll never get the chance to play. What a shame.

    • @st1ka
      @st1ka  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the reason people didn't get their game is because there was a link in the Watermelon email that took you to another page where you entered your address. I found this link years after I had already moved to another city and entered my new address. I received my copy of the game within a few weeks from entering my new address, so I'm pretty sure that obscured link is what tripped people up. It wasn't intuitive at all, and I could have just as easily missed it.

    I finished Brave Battle Saga recently, and while I liked my time with the game, I have some issues regarding the balancing, because most of the equip I bought have almost no change in how much damage I receive, and leveling up didn't help. Also, I don't recomend the Steam version that much because, for some reason, the code for level 99 doesn't work there (which is strange, because it's emulation).
    Sometimes, the game relies on too much fetch questing (when the MC fell sick, we had to ask for the help of the Goddess of Life, but she asked the group to recovered the captured fairies, the guy who captured the fairies asked for help to lift his curse, and to lift his curse we need to get and specific item on a mountain, and we only know about the item when we talked with the goddess about the guy's curse), and despite the game being straightforward, the navigation on some points are a absolute nightmare.
    I needed to get this out of my chest since I finished the game.
    Anyway, nice video, although Insane Pain, a fighting game released in december (I think) isn't in the video. The rom is available for free, but the devs are also selling physical copies of the game.
    I played a lot of the games on this video, and it's fantastic how, since the advent of the SGDK, it's easier to make a Mega Drive game, but kudos to the guys before that time that were able to do something for our beloved 16-bit machine.

The soundtrack wasn't quite as good as the original Amiga or the SNES versions but is still amazing considering the console it's on and the Mega Drive's fart noise legacy, and the gameplay itself is still that wonderful blend of "this is fun" and "this makes me hate life itself". Well, it's cool to see new game for old systems and it also makes the games feel more authentic. The issue with a lot of indie games that mimic retro games is that they often do things the original consoles couldn't and sometimes it breaks the immersion

    Water Margin is easily one of the better games in this video. It's actually a VERY competent side scrolling beat em up! The one & only flaw I really have with it is the character's attacks don't have very many frames & look a bit jerky because of it. I wish they had more frames to the attacks but that's really just a small nitpick. It's a really excellent & fun game with some pretty good music too!

      @user-ef8fp6dr2b basically, almost every modern mega drive game uses some called SGDK which are modern development tools created by a fan. Supposedly, the creator is constantly improving the tools and taking feedback from other devs

    • @shannonbirt9267
      @shannonbirt9267 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would be surprised how easy it is , I'm 3 weeks into learning SGDK , i have a level I copied from an 8 bit shooter I like to play with , I have Graphics (copied) , player movement + enemy movement + hit detection + scrolling all working well . Some things are so easy in SGDK it feels like cheeting almost , like scrolling for example - super easy , basicaly VDP_SrollTo(x,y) thats it lol. So SGDK + Visual studio Code (IDE) + Asesprite (Graphics) + LDTE or Tile16 for tile editor , thats what I'm using. SGDK does a lot of the heavy lifting and is reasonably fast, I have 30 or so enemies moving / animating and all logic and without optimisation at the worst points is ~ 75% utilisation - i could tweak that yet I'm sure.
