    „If Yoda would fight me again, I wouldn’t be the emperor anymore.“
    - Darth Sidious , Star Wars Comics
    „Yoda would have defeated Sidious, Sidious just managed to knock Yoda back and escape.“
    - George Lucas
    We see, how Yoda disarms Sidious two times during the fight, and how Sidious falls back, and his forceabilities showed no effect on Yoda. Yoda is just way to powerful for Sidious, and Sidious was clever enough to know that and Kock him away & escape.

    • @qb6570
      @qb6570 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Sideous was more powerful than yoda in the force. Yoda was way better with the lightsaber, sideous focused more on his force abilities and political schemes. The novels dive more into this. Sideous defeated 3 of the most powerful jedi in the blink on an eye. The only person capable of defeating the emperor in a duel with absolute certainty was mace windu. His 7th form was kryptonite to the dark side.

      Sinister ones Alucard it has been also confirmed that multiple sources confirm that a lot of sith and jedi are more powerful than Sidious, he was just for a short period the strongest sith, where Darth Plagueis was dead and Vader had not enough experience yet. Somewhere around episode 4-5 Darth Vader overpowered Sidious. And as we see, Sidious is chanceless against great Jedi like Windu and Yoda, also confirmed by George Lucas that they both won and are more powerful.

    (Opera scene, revenge of the sith)

In the EU he was insanely powerful however the EU didn't make too much sense in many cases and big numbers and big attacks were thrown in for enjoyment rather than logical. So ehhh...never liked eu all too much to be honest I liked certain things but most of it I disliked...to me it seems more of a childish written area for shits and giggles with some dark things thrown in to make it edgy and cool to be honest that part actually worked well enough it made it more interesting and fun that way but the rest of it was childish. Cylus O'Brady wrong in SW Canon it has been stated multiple times that Darth Vader is the most powerful Sith. And it’s also confirmed that Plagueis, Bane and Snoke (even a full potential Darth Maul) are way more powerful than Sidious(maybe a full experienced Kylo ren too we will see). Star Wars Comics and quotes from George Lucas and the „Visual Dictionary 2017“ confirm that. And in legends, Darth Sidious is for sure very powerful and smart, but not even close to the ancient Sith like Malgus, valkorion, revan, nihilus, Tulak hord, naga sadow etc, even that has been stated in the legends comics. Darth Sidious is far away from being the most powerful Sith-Lord and also a coward. However he is still an amazing character.

    Sidious is very intelligent and he wasn't stupid to face a Top Tiered Jedi Master like Yoda without a good plan. True that Sidious is known for his cunning and power in the Force and Knowledge of Sith Teachings. So foolishly facing a Top Tiered Jedi Master like Yoda alone is always a bad idea.

      Yep, there can be many explanations but this makes the most sense. He is less fearful of Yoda and more fearful that he can be potentially beaten and all his years of hard work can end like that. He had already beaten Yoda and the entire Jedi- it just wasn't in his best interest to duel him at that particular juncture.

      @@Fabian6980 there's a reason why he's regarded as one of the greatest jedi ever and the best duelist in form III. Also, it isn't luck, rather skill and brains.
      He beat Vader by using his own arrogance against him, after he was able to withstand all his aggressiveness through his mastery of Soresu.
      In the fight against Dooku, the count himself was afraid of Kenobi, because he had mastered Soresu to such an extent that he was parrying each of Dooku's strikes without ever flinching. Had the lightsaber duel gone on, Dooku knew that not only wouldn't he had been able to break Obi-Wan's defence, but he also would've had to struggle against Anakin's aggressive form losing eventually. Which is why he forced Kenobi out of the duel by breaking his force barrier. Some even speculate it was Palpatine himself who broke that barrier, to get rid of Obi-Wan and have Anakin fight Dooku solo.
      Another good example happened during the clone wars, where he was able to handle both Savage and Maul at the same time and get them to run away. Despite having his back against the wall, he was able to break free through wit and strategy, and gravely injure Savage.
      And 'there's no such thing as luck, only the force'. Can't remember who said this though.

In terms of technique Yoda's abilities and speed helps him gain advantage in enclosed areas like we saw against Dooku in Episode 2. By moving to a more open area, Sidios gave himself a bigger advantage that he needed to win.

    @Star Wars Reading Club, In what you notice to the accumulation of knowledge from the other sources, I can say that it is just part of it.
    Remember when Mace windu was about to strike down Darth Sidious, it has far more reaching effect that even the emperor is still suffering until his final death in Dark Empire comics.
    It was explained by George Lucas that Palpatine forced himself too far using dark side of the force, when he was almost killed by Mace Windu. It's effect is so menacing that Palpatine cannot completely control the dark side without destroying his body. That's why we have secret clone project of the emperor so that he can tranfer his conciousness to a new body until he was able to create a body suitable to the Emperor growing power in the Dark Side.
    It was explain by George Lucas, that when Darth Sidious killed Mace Windu, the Emperor dam for his Dark side of the force burst, leaving him with a uncontrollable fast growing power. Especially now he has Darth Vader as an apprentice which make his power grow faster more.
    That's why at the time when he is about to duel Yoda, he is far more injured and are only able to hold his power from damaging his body, as it is a crucial moment in the life of the emperor as he need to consolidate his new found power. It is at that time that Yoda knew from the force that he needs to do a confrontation with the Emperor or lose the only chance to have a chance in the future. Yoda also wanted to kill Darth Sidious if he has the oppurtunity. Hence the "The New Hope" title of Star Wars first film. Which really 100% tie the knot of the whole 6 movies.

    Sidious attempted to flee because after he was force pushed by Yoda he had a moment of clarity where he realized just how powerful the Grand Master was. His attempt retreat was more of a tactical decision. Yoda is not only a master, but THE master of Ataru, the most acrobatic of all lightsaber forms, which would make a duel in the office setting dangerous for Sidious. This is why he retreated to the Senate chamber in order to create a larger gap between himself and Yoda. Yoda is most dangerous when he is close to his opponent and Sidious knew he was the superior for user, so he kept his distance and relied on using his command of the force to destroy Yoda. He also wouldn't jeopardize his control of the galaxy with a duel with Yoda, because he knew he has already won and he has everything to lose when dueling Yoda even though he has awaited and wanted to duel Yoda for a very long time.

  • @JediWitness2
    @JediWitness2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I partly agree with this analysis as I do see that part of the reason that Sidious would want to flee would be to help rescue Anakin, but you can see by the look on Sidious's face after getting Force thrown across the room that fear and worry definitely had to be part of the equation as he was just as surprised that Yoda survived order 66 and this alone told him that he might well have underestimated Yoda.
    Also in the novel, the two red rubbed guards weren't knocked out by Yodas Force push, they were knocked out by Yoda deflecting the first volley of lightning from Sidious, which Yoda simply made the same slashing gesture in the air and the lightning bolts parted like two streams of water and slammed into the two red robed guards, knocking them into the wall and shocking them into unconsciousness.
    It was the second volley that caught Yoda off guard for some reason and caught him, who then got up, brushed it off and sent Sidious flying across his office to the obvious shock and surprise of Sidious!
    So there can be NO DOUBT that Sidious realizes that he may have seriously underestimated Yodas power and the light side of the Force and that confronting a Master with far more experience and Yodas obvious powers is likely a very bad idea and that fear and worry over Yodas skill was definitely a significant factor in his attempting to flee.

    I always thought the sidious was the lesser of the 3 between him, Yoda, and windu in regards to lightsaber dueling. I figured he was the best of the 3 for force ability however

    When I was a kid, I thought he was just trying to get closer to Yoda because he was ready to duel.

    Yoda is a Jedi Councillor he's not an expert with the light saber despite what people believe rather he's talented in the ways of the force. For example Qui-Gon Jinn was a Jedi Councillor like Yoda when he fought against Darth Maul Obi Wan Kenobi being a Jedi Guardian knew that his master wasn't as skilled with a light saber as he was and knowing this when Qui-Gon Jinn was alone fighting Darth Maul he feared that his master would be killed. The color of a Jedi's light saber reveals to their opponent what type of Jedi they are a Jedi Guardian excels at the light saber while a Jedi Councillor excels as force users. A Sith on the other hand conceals this information from their opponent because their light saber is only one color red.

    Sidious didn't want that noise!!! He almost lost. That's why.... Yoda: "9/10 Sidious loses he does. Bitch out; he did."

    80% certain I read somewhere that Yoda was an unrivaled duelist at this time in the galaxy. Sidious knew this and didn't want to get into a lightsaber fight with him. Even in the senate room when Yoda lunged at him, he shot Yoda's saber out of his hand preferring a force fight instead.

    I can't remember where I read this but I read somewhere that sidious guard was up, and was shaken that Yoda could touch him with the force anyway
