Warm Audio is well known for recreating legendary studio microphones at a reasonable price. No wonder I was really hyped to see that they came out with two guitar pedals, one of which is the Centavo. But is it "the real deal"? Does it bring us close enough to the crazy dynamics and sweet tone of the original Klon Centaurs? Let's find it out. Leave a comment below!

The low-gain/clean amp is my jam. I just love that tone so much, with all the klones. I've had Sugar Drive, Tumnus, and Archer. They are all so freakin good.

Great video, just got the Centavo and a smile has been permanently implanted on my face. I have Tumnus Deluxe, OCD and Smallbox. I liked the Tumnus and it was first in the chain acting as a Klon, but honestly in my setup into a REVV D20 and 1x12w Celestion Vintage all of the settings on the Centavo sound great. Tumnus sounds great, but with all the tweaks, I get better overall sound out of the Centavo. Did not expect that, kind of got it to have another Tumnus type to stack into each other. Centavo is now always on and first in the chain. Thank you for what you do, have been a Thomann subscriber for years and glad I found your personal channel. And I love this pedal. Smallbox is pretty sweet also for a plexi sound. OCD goes without saying, it has to be the 3rd most popular of all time behind Klon and Tubescreamer. I am not a TS fan.
Excellent video all the way start to finish...this checked all the boxes for me, very complete.
Based on this video and other research, I purchased this Centavo on Reverb, and I'm waiting for it to arrive.
My Klon Quest started about a year ago; I wanted: versatility ( no 1 trick pony), usable across full gain tone/ range, build quality, stackable with other pedals and clean amp settings, value ( no 7k pedals). A big selling point was the Jeff Beck (RIP, Rock In Peace) mod. I also like the simplicity and vintage look, layout ( not a lot of switches and options).
PS. I also like that your vids do not include a bunch of silly, goofy, content, like many others. Your's are 100% usable content without a clown show, or extra bantering...Thank you!

Just wanted to congratulate you on your Klone. Great sounding pedal.
Nice video, great playing! One note, which has probably been said already, but that isn't handwired. When you see components on a printed circuit board like that, you know it's not handwired. There are traces (dark lines) on the layers of the PCB that connect the components, not the point-to-point connections that you'd see on a handwired circuit. Compare to gut shots of a handwired amp and you'll see the difference.

At some point i need to drive to the Thomann store in Germany and try all Klon Clones in person.
I got mine the first day they released it..best klone around IMO..great pick man...the warm drive clone of the Zen drive looks fantastic as well..I jumped on a few good releases this year including the Duke of Tone! You'll love that too Kris!

Nice sounds Kris. I liked best the Centavo and the Unobtainium. But all pedals sounded good. It is just a matter of taste at this point.
The price is not that bad considering everything tends not to be cheaper these days.

These were great choices for Warm Drive to create (Zen and Klon). I run a KTR into a Zendrive and it really is my favorite sound in the world. Love to run a fuzz into a Klon - smooths the fuzz out a bit and adds midrange.

If you want a Klon in mini pedal format, I recommend the Decibelics Golden Horse. It’s in the 200€, but it’s handmade by a single guy in Spain and it’s super accurate and great quality.

I'm looking into the Centavo to replace my mxr Sugar Drive, which has been a great little drive. Centavo or the Lichtlaerm Aquaria overdrive.

Cool video and some really cool tones, Kris! I use my Tumnus Deluxe like an overdrive because it can be the silkiest smoothest thing ever, but it can growl as well. I'm boosting it with a Timmy and it's just the best tone ever. All I need!

@@godbyone I have the MXR version. It was a gift from my girlfriend. 😄 I love smooth overdrives and the Tumnus is perfect for that. Boosting the Timmy into it just makes it thicker but still pretty smooth if that makes sense. Of course you can use them in a lot of different ways that are unique to you. Cheers!

Interesting background infos, Kris. My Demon FX Klon clone, much like your DIY, has not a lot of volume, and just sounds a tad thinner than the Wampler Tumnus. How do you see the Tumnus in comparison to the Centavo? It is less midrangy than the Archer to my ears, potentially as close as the Unobtanium clone side is?

I'm a tad puzzled again regarding your test video:
- Why did you use a Tele in the first half? A Tele always sounds best =!= no Pedal will make it better
- I do get it ... a Paula just needs to have a golden pedal to make it sound - arrgurgle - acceptable BUT you should have used a Gold Top LP
- the most fun i had with a Tele was pairing it with a Wampler Euphoria at low gain setting ... OkOk it's green but not TubeScreamer green ...

Why is the sound of the Warm Audio Centavo SO WOW & SO COOL? What is the special THING?
Hmm, hard to explain. Most of the Klon style pedals have a „crackly“ and somewhat unpleasant treble AND loose bass (that’s part of the original circuit too) when you crank the gain above 1 o‘clock. I don’t like that at all. This one has a sweet tone, awesome treble and if you engage the mod switch it has the warmth I‘m missing sometimes. Does that make sense? I hope. 😅

I saw one at a shop the other day, and couldnt belive the size of it. I thought it was some sort of display piece or something. It sounded great, though, so I bought it.

I have the Ryra clone and I am happy with it, but maybe i will check it cause its at a okay price compared to the ceriaton one and a ktr witch is to hard to get. Unless, first on my list is the kernom ridge.

Whatever kind of klon you use nobody in any audience will notice, we are just navel staring gear junks... I have a tumnus bought when that pedal was the best ever! On youtube :):):) I had no klon experience and my first impression was , wtf is the hype about this is a strange pedal, sounds best with an overdrive amp imho...you play awesome , and give honest reviews! 👍so I still enjoyed this video thnx🤟

Anyone know how this thing goes in front of a Boss Super OD or a TS?
I opened the pedal as well and I was not impressed by the components either or the finish of the enclosure. One of the knobs was not put right that it was scratching the finish. Some QC going on but I kept the pedal cuz it sounds good and it has earned a spot next to my wah.
It is just a boost pedal below 12 gain. It switches to an overdrive circuit past 12 gain.
Well, I had about talked myself out of getting this pedal, but you’ve pulled me back in. Plus I’ve got a gift card for Sweetwater, so why not. 😂

Hi Chris, if these are not germanium diodes, what are they, silicon or something else?
The tone of this pedal is fantastic, and very responsive with all settings, it kills.
Do you think the tone would be better with germanium diodes? how different it is from the original design.
I think you are competent to judge it, because you have had the opportunity to try many klon pedals.
The Wampler germanium limited edition Tumnus is now the closest to the Klon - it's in fact as identical as is possible, especially when really pushing a good tube amp, it's just perfection.
Does anyone really need another overdrive pedal? At this point, if you're still watching pedal demos your soul is lost and you need to own a Klon. Speaking of which, I just found it on a boxing day sale. Price was right. Kris this video pushed me over the edge bud. I picked one up.

😆😆 For the most part I don’t think the listener would guess them right. A lot of the coolness (differences?) is in the feel.
I always crank the gain to max on Klons. That's the best tone.

Im not much Klon person. For what most people use it, I prefere either Treble booster or Timmy.

I get that man. I mostly enjoy these Klon style pedals in front of a dirty sound. The only exception are this one and the right side of the Unobtanium. These have a cool sweetness and tons of dynamics. Cheers man, happy holidays!
Warm audio went to great extent testing multiple different diodes to find the perfect drop voltage.
I don’t care if they’re made from fairy dust, the Centavo sounds incredible!

The warm audio pedals get a lot of critics because they are very obvious copies of other pedals.
It's pretty ironic considering most pedals being made in the last 30 years are "boutique copies" of pedals that were created between the 60s and the 80s... so who is really making anything "original"?!
Thanks for the comparison, I was already considering the Unobtanium, but this just made me pull the trigger for a good Klon and Dumble combo to mix with my Toxic Twins.

I use my Klon Klone pedal (J. Rockett Archer) the way you described around 6:00 in the video.
I use it specifically with my Deluxe Reverb Reissue. It gives me just a little bit of break up when I pick hard, and a tad more mids. It makes the amp have a more linear frequency response.

@@KrisBarocsi great question and thanks for asking! I watched a million reviews of various Klon clones. The only complaint I heard about the Ceriatone was that it could be a bit noisy, but I've also heard that about the Klon. My experience with Nik at Ceriatone was top notch. Excellent communication and got one to me faster than he said. Packaging is amazing. Look of the pedal is totally killer!!! I love the purple! My very first impression of this pedal is that it was almost dead silent. Now to be fair, I don't play loud at all, but I'm also sitting like 2 feet from my amp. He offered "clean boost" settings of Gain all the way down, Tone and Output at 11:00. I LOVE that. It is almost totally invisible, with only the slightest increase in...what? Clarity, articulation...maybe a hint of sparkle or depth to the sound vs with it off. My favorite sound is with the Gain at about 10:30, Tone at 12:30, and Output at about noon, with a Les Paul, with the amp on the cleaner side of approaching breakup. That is pretty glorious. I can still clean up ok with the guitar volume. It's always hard to try and put sounds into words. I need more time with this pedal, and I also need to try it at higher amp volumes. I've used it with my Tele, Strat, Schecter Nick Johnston, Epiphone Lazarus Les Paul, and my '94 PRS Custom 24. I can't really make it sound, and there are fantastic sounds to be had from all. I'm going to rewatch your video and see what phrases you used to describe the Warm...then see if I can offer a more direct comparison. One big problem is that YOU are playing yours, and I am playing mine! I think we are both happy about it though!!

bought the Centovo on Saturday at the Padua Guitar Show. Tried it yesterday...all good. A little while ago I connect it to the amp, turn it on, turn up the volume and...zzzzz a hiss...ouch ouch. Now I have to take it to the shop in Mestrino for assistance...ouch ouch...
Oh man, so sorry to hear that. Let them fix it, it’s tone is worth it.

@@KrisBarocsi Yesterday... test: Then tried again, always the Centavo with switch to zero. Turning up the volume of the amp you have to go beyond half to hear the hiss again, but this time very weak. I tried to replace the battery that was already built in (probably the one hundred and eighth was available at the fair to have it tested). I put another battery in and no hissing is heard. I put the Battery that the Centavo had in one of my pedals (Fulltone OCD) and it doesn't make any hiss...boh
Today: tried again in the exact same situation as on Sunday when the Centavo was hissing. Same cables, same battery. No hiss today. Everything ok... and the hiss, what happened to it? mystery
By hand wired you mean a circuit board with wires to the jack?
Umm, no. Let’s call it hand soldered then to make it clear. I meant that someone took the time to sit down and solder all the components on the circuit board. 👍
Do a head to head with a SUPER inexpensive Klon Clone like the NuX Horseman. Its the closest and cheapest to my ear and wallet I've EVER heard. I'd like to see a comparison!!!!

Got a WA Centavo ------ for the money this is fab but still think this is over-hyped. It's good but there so many others. However I would recommend the WA the tone is v good
People who only use a KlonE circuit as a boost are really missing out on a really good dirt pedal.
I’m borrowing my brother’s J Rockett Archer and I think I love it. But the WA Centavo keeps winning in these comparisons. Im definitely getting one. And I’m definitely going to put a big sticker on it that reads “FAKE” in case someone decides to try and steal my board thinking I’ve got a real Klon. Lol
The pedal is a upgraded klon if u ask me but my ears aren't as refined as some.I also like cheap wine.
Haha, cheap wine can be super tasty. :) Not sure about it being an upgraded klon, but it definitely is one of the best sounding clones with every gain setting. I absolutely adore the Centavo. Cheers!

I`ve still tested the Warm Audio Centavo and I´m very dissapointed. It`s noisy and it doesn`t sounds so good as it is here demonstrated. I´ve tested several "Klon-Pedals" and the best in my opinon is the green Nobels ODR-1. Have a try and then decide

So…… one buys a quality tube amp them puts 1 or more transistor loaded pedal’s in front to get a sound. But then some guys say that they can’t stand transistor amps……. How very odd 🙃
