    Warm Audio sent me their horsie man klone and their warm take on a zen overdrive. The Klone does its thing well and the traditional style box looks great, even though it takes up a ton of space for clean boost, BUT THAT IS THE PRICE OF FASHION! And I might be a little in love with the sound of the Warm Drive, to the best of my knowledge I've never messed around with a ZenDrive variant before and now I think I might need to throw myself down that rabbit hole in the near future.

    The reality of the Klon experience cannot be truly experienced without playing a Klon. So, here we get a licensed Klon copy that for all practical purposes is a Klon . Made with the full legal blessings of the folks who designed, built and sold the originals. I never understood what was the big deal until my Centavo showed up. 5 minutes of playing and all was revealed. It is the flexible interaction among the 3 knobs circuits allowing for an amazing variety of sonic sweetness. Now I get it and I'm glad I got it.
    p.s. You have made a very good vid with some smashingly excellent playing. Thank you.

    Some great playing in this one, really shows the advantages of the pedals and how they should be used.
    It took me quite a while to get into the Klon game, but the description of it as a 'make sound better' pedal is spot on.

    Can’t believe how good their Klon sounds. It has the magic smoothness in the upper mids which even the better other clones don’t quite nail. I think it’s a “you get what you pay for” thing, Warm is using the absolute best possible components. That smoothness is subtle, but when you put dynamics processing on it, that difference becomes less subtle. I’ve been holding off on a Klon but finally i think i’ve found the right one. Bet analog synth would sound great through it amped, too.

Josh's recent history of guitar goes a long way to show how much people "borrow" from others, but other than that suspicious headstock take, the Strat was pretty darn original and revolutionary, even more than the LP. From what I gathered, the Zendrive by Lovepedal has been licensed from the original creator and been in production there for like 10 years now. Licensing, I assume, would be for the use of the name and case design, as circuits apparently are not protected. Where I live, the Warmdrive resells for 25 to 50% lower than the Lovepedal version. I'd be more interested in where the price difference comes from. Does Warm cut corners there in terms of build quality or fair production when compared to Lovepedal? I'd be more interested in the ethics of production, because whether the Zendrive is still an »original« is debatable in my opinion, and if the price difference is simply for the name, I would not consider that »worth it«.

    • @mykhedelic6471
      @mykhedelic6471 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@madearl The price difference may have something to do with the licensing he mentions, as the price would factor in that licensing payout. To me, if you have a deal with the original creator to produce essentially the same product then that counts as still being "in production" which makes the Warmdrive a bit sneaky. Technically, Danelectro (Steve Ridinger) is still making the Foxx Tone Machine but not a complete replica, soooooo, maybe a bit of wiggle room there.
