Cool video! We must have been out the same day. There was an Iowa northern train with six geeps that ran late from Cedar Rapids. Also a Iowa interstate train stalled near walford and that ran light power busting drifts. There’s a video on my channel if your interested.
I used to live in shell-rock, great little town, bad school district, and I loved listening to the engines pass near the grain elevator on the southwest side of town
Dang, I live in Cedar Falls. My brother and I would watch trains going through the IC bridge in town. Pretty cool you caught some stuff coming through there.
Nice catches! The next time you railfan in Iowa. I would try railfanning the NS operation in Des Moines as it’s isolated from the rest of the NS system.

Funny enough, I went to Iowa and railfanned the Clinton Sub a little before new years. Coincidence, I think so. Also, love from the CN flint in the Lansing area.

Seeing Diesel Electric freight trains on snow covered tracks is something common for you Americans but incredibly rare for Australians like me.
I really gotta go and see the Iowa Northern, it’s not too far from me
