- 02/19/2023 Cedar Falls, Ia. Some minor flooding following an ice jam on the Cedar river. Fortunately there wasn't too much rain up river during this event. Here a lengthy CN L571 is making it's way along the ice jammed Cedar! 02/20/2023 Waterloo, Ia. Here the L570 is just pulling into town and into the rail yard. Shortly after the CN train I caught the Iowa Northern pulling out of B yard and headed to the interchange. 02/21/2023 Waterloo, Ia. Here a good sized Iowa northern is seen along the Diagonal road and headed to the Cedar Falls Junction!
Loved this ! Wish I could have had these types of experiences with my Dad .
Another great video there brother man! With your drone it really gives you a whole view of just how much ice there is. 😉👍🏻🎥💯
Thanks Brandon! It's really crazy listening to that ice too. Makes some spooky sounds👍
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 oh I bet. You’re welcome sir.
Man, that ice jam is causing some dramas by the look. Nice Iowa Northern catches in slug mode. Have a great weekend, Red! 🍻👍🇺🇸🇦🇺😎
Thanks Agent Mulder! Yep a little Spring flooding in Iowa. Have a good one down under!
Nice catches!
Wow Red crazy ice jamb nice drone shot 👍🏻 cn catch and lowa Northen . I see the boys are watching trains great video Red . Robin out 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Great CN and IANR action Red. Although those ice jams are a serious problem for those along the cedar river, not fun for them.
Never seen or heard Canadian geese before, so thanks for that. try to stay warm Red.
Thanks Nancy! The ice is cleared out now. We have tons of Canadian geese around here!
This was a good one Red. Thanks for the great drone view of the icey Cedar River! I guess those folks knew what to expect when they decided to live on Cottage Row. Those were some long trains today! Saw a lot of CNW cars on a recent Jawtooth video. Did you see that one?
Thanks Softkitty! Yes the Cottage Row people pretty much all have boats. I'll have to check out that Jaw Tooth video👍
🇺🇸😎👍🇺🇸
Both dogs look bored I guess its because no little yippers to bark at. There's a section along the old Wisconsin Central where the water encroaches on the homes built on sticks but they usually don't get ice build ups. New cars CGAX are for Cargiil on the CN. Then IANR train had a KLRX buffer car and two new NAHX 5 bay pressurized cars with consecutive numbers no less. A few other cars in the IANR train were marked for ETPX and looked new. What makes them unique is that the reporting marks stand for East Tennessee Packing Company which would sound like you're transporting tallow yet they have Hazmat placards. Never a dull moment in the rail industry. I just saw a Canadian video with a number of brand-new AEX The Andersons which they might be using for their own grain. They've been around almost 60 years and the odds are they've never purchased a new car always used. Last year actually started the big purges on Old covered Hopper fleets when they really started to build them e n mass in 1972. Its March!
Yes Paul B the dogs have to endure some long rail fan times! Their always ready to go when they see my camera and scanner. Interesting about the pressurized cars. I take it the pressure helps off load them. Lots of CNW covered hoppers probably close to that dreaded end of the line time frame.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 while I don't know how many CNW cars are still owned by UP the majority are owned by short lines or leasing firms but 1973 will be 500 cars in 2023 and 2024 had ex RI cars and its 1000 to 1500 in 1974 orders
@@paulbergen9114 Boy that's a lot of cars and seemingly expensive for railroads to replace. I have to wonder who actually enforces the 50 year rule and if some cars escape scraping for awhile longer.
Heard the Canadian geese. Great video. Lots of ice .
Thanks TIK!
This had a meet in New Hartford I was there in NH they met a BNSF grain train
Looks Beautiful except Ice Jams can be a Huge Problem for Many. 🤔🙏 The Geese sound Like 👍 they’re digging the weather though.
Yes Ken, nature can be beautiful but quite dangerous!
That is a large ice jam on the Cedar River, Red! The drone footage of the ice jam was impressive. I hope that by now (2 March 2023) most of the ice jam has broken up and the water in the Cedar River is moving more freely. Are the people who own those houses along the Cedar River able to get flood insurance? The Canadian National L571 on 19 February 2023 was a long train. The Canadian National L570 on 20 February 2023 had a lot of traffic tied up in Waterloo, Iowa. The Iowa Northern Railroad train on 21 February 2023 had a lot of power to move its train up north on the Iowa Northern.
Yep pretty impressive ice jam Thomas! I think they can get flood insurance but It's probably very expensive! River is flowing high but freely now👍
Real nice update on the flooding situation, Red. Glad most of those homes are on stilts. I hate to hear the words CNW and the word scrapped in the same sentence, lol. Still would be awesome to see an original CNW loco come through out of nowhere. That would be beyond awesome, don't you agree?? I keep a picture of CNW 8830, brand spanking new sitting at Proviso as a screensaver
Thanks Bekleiding! Yes that would be awesome to see a CNW locomotive out of nowhere. Be nice to see the Iowa Northern restore those old CNW GP units in Manly👍
Just when the train passes the open spot in the river with the geese i think if you look on the CFU line you can just barely see me with blue jeans standing there
598 axles is almost 150 cars. Amazing...
Always interesting to try and figure out how the L571 is blocked, what cars might be dropped at the work locations and which will go through to Fort Dodge and then on west towards Sioux City or Council Bluffs. The anhydrous ammonia cars on L570 probably originated at the Koch Industries plant east of Ft
Dodge.
Yes Sandy I always like to catch the work stops of the L571. I wonder where the lumber cars end up?
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 Tassler Pallet east side of Webster City receives lumber. Some may go west beyond Ft Dodge.
Crazy some of those people are trapped either in or out! As a trucker class 2 is non flammable gas.
15 years, don't know why you tube stopped and spelled that funny anyway
Yes Kevin, a lot of those people boat in and out during high water. Not very convenient.
YIKES about the ice! Some nice long freights to delay traffic! Yup!, there were some really noisy cars, that one on IANR sure looked like a hot bearing at one time, might be a derailment in its future.
Yes Paul, that was a long drawn out Iowa Northern. I'd like to think they replace the running gear as needed!
Does Iowa Northern still switch the Winnebago plant?
Not sure, maybe the CP?
Ok those guys walking the dog were behind me i was standing there just before the tower with lights just a ways before the tracks merge
Cool! I need to walk that line too before they tear it up!
Wish my photo albums of the shots I took in the 90's while in JR and High School along that stretch wouldn't have gotten distroyed, a lot has changed since 2000/2001
The flood of 2008 caused a lot of change.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 yeah I got away from there after senior year of highschool in 2k for the most part. Came back to help sandbag a couple times but otherwise the furthest I get into cf is the industrial park
@@tonydixon7820 I moved to CF in 97. Got to know quite a few people on Cottage Row over the years. I live out in North Cedar.
