Michelle J. The remake doesn't try to duplicate this movie. It's a completely different script, set in a different decade, the relationships & personalities were different. Honestly, I enjoy them both as 2 separate films. Think of it like this, if the original is the gritty "true" story, then the remake was the softer "Hollywood" retelling.

They personified how it was to be young gifted and black in the inner city . i grew up in Philadelphia and had 2 sisters . We were i thought really pretty like these ladies and while we had i thought some gifting it was hard to get out. my oldest didnt make it out but unlike sister she didnt die, and i did through the grace of God made it out to travel the world in the military, and my kids were not raised living in a world of ghetto life. i will never forget these ladies who made us all dream and showed us a reflection of what we could be. Much love to the cast and crew and still a fan of all the ladies and gents in this film God bless.

There are many best selling black books they can choose to turn into films, but no, they want to sit on their behinds and mess with great, amazing films like Sparkle.
