    Thank you for describing your "mistake" with attaching the power wire. that was very helpful to me. I recently also purchased the 80w model and will be hooking up everything soon. Still waiting on the water chiller ( CW-5200 ) to arrive as well as the rotary attachment. Videos to follow along with whatever speed bumps I come across. Thank you again for posting your experience!

    "I'm not gonna talk about build quality, this is a cheap machine". Excellent comment. I see way too many reviews of things where the reviewer seems to forget how much they paid for the item under review, if they paid at all. This is how reviews should be. Well done

    I am committed to getting my own machine in the coming months - I had previous experience on an epilog and was pretty much dead set on getting a Thunder Laser of my own - However it is hard to ignore the price difference, and am reconsidering if the money saved on a comparable machine might be used in other ways. So yeah, im curious about the OMTech 80w, and if you would truly reccomend for long-term use still. Thank you!

    You did the right thing dumping the K40 if your going to try and run a business with it. I also like the idea with the mini-frig! The only thing I would of suggested is stepping up to 100 watts as the price isn't that great and 20 watts on top of 80, you can do a lot more. However good luck with your projects!

      Ive been a fan of yours for a while and i remember binging the your laser playlist before buying the the k40. Yea the k40 would stop mid run on longer engravings and it was time for an upgrade. And which safety goggles do I need? He said that it is not dangerous. But, if I'm unsure, I should buy some goggles. What is correct, what should I do? Which (Nm) glasses should I buy and should I replace the Acyrl window? Thanks for the answers

    • @thenotionlab

      The clear acrylic is safe, mine is clear. The laser beam will not pass through acrylic without at least marking it otherwise the machine would not be able to cut acrylic. I'm about to order the 100W variant from the same seller on Ebay. How did the $150 LTL service work out? Did you just pay the $150 and give them your address? Or were there more weight-based charges on top of that? The whole shipping thing is confusing me. They don't make it very easy to understand in their product descriptions.

    • @thenotionlab
      @thenotionlab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The liftgate service worked out fine. After i purchased the laser the seller messaged me about the liftgate. The message contained a link and that took me to a separate listing. I believe I payed for the service from the seller directly and the seller payed the freight company. Since the liftgate purchase was made through ebay, the already had my address. No extra weight charges, just the flat 150 rate. The 100w should be roughly the same weight as the 80w.

      @@joeguernsey1213 First thing i would do is a ramp test to make sure your focus is right. I dont have a video on my channel but youtube have a few that goes over the process. The next thing I would do is decrease power, 99 percent is too high. It make sound counter intuitive be more power does not equate to better cuts and your laser tube will not last long. My settings for cutting are 20mm/s and 60 max power. Let me know how it turns out.

      Hi there, I have a 100watt, and have tried many different settings with 6mm birch plywood. I’m having the hardest time with the machine being consistent with cuts. I can do a test cut- say a circle and it will cut just fine at certain passes. Then I cut a bigger image and it’s not cutting through all the way. I can even increase my passes and it still won’t cut through. I’d love any suggestions. I’m still a beginner and I’m sure I’m not doing something right.

    • @thenotionlab
      @thenotionlab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@laurenlauren6670 First thing i would to is a ramp test to make sure your focal lent is set properly, if your only using the original acrylic tool its most likely off. I am sure you've heard it before but check and clean your mirror and lens often. my second recommendation would be to invest in a lens made for cutting. Most laser ship with universal lenses and if your planning on doing a lot of cuts its worth a look. Last but not least is lowering your power. The larger the wattage on a laser tube the wider your laser beam size and the more power you use that beam gets wider. I would start around 50 percent power and 20 mm/s and increase from there.

    Have you had any issues with a non-climate controlled environment? I'm looking at the 100W, but our garage is not sealed or CC, and humidity (Mid Atlantic) can be pretty awful in the summer.

      My machine was in my open carport until recently, the only issue i notice was the linear rails had some flash rust on the sides, the rails are covered in some kind of grease, i think its petroleum jelly from the factory, not sure if its because of that or moisture but it does not effect operation. the electronics are still fine.

      @@thenotionlab So I have the tube installed, The machine powers on, moves etc... Not sure how I test the tube. The instructions for the tube say hit the test button on the PSU.. well that's not on this thing of course. I was figuring I could just hit the pulse button and see if it fires? Also the 'acrylic' focus tool I assume, from the instruction picture, you use it on the side to set the focus? I'm still not sure about if I'm going to need to adjust the mirrors etc. The docs for these things are pretty.. well. they leave something to be desired, which does not surprise me.

      @@CDale-tc3xz The more expensive machines like ours usually are setup prior to sales so most likely the mirrors are setup. Mine are still good and its been a year plus.
      I used the pulse button to test the laser tube. With my machine I used the long side of the acrylic, the easiest and most accurate way to find focus it with a ramp test. I dont have a video on it but many exist on youtube.
      I agree, I didnt even read the documents until i had to lol but there is a great community to pick up the slack. Let me know how it goes and if I can help further.

      @@thenotionlab So I have found out! Been messing with it the last couple of days. The HV Wire is a pain. They give you that useless ceramic thing to put them in? As soon as I bent that solder joint it blew when energized. But otherwise, works well out of the box! Did a ramp test. Was hard to tell.. perhaps a bit lower is better, but the included focus dodad seems pretty spot on in general. I'm already looking at other lenses as well. My biggest issue is figure out power/speed combos for what I want to do. I just did a cleaning on the lenses and mirrors. That resin builds up pretty quickly. Was cleaner than I thought. Need a better AIr assist and I'm off to the HomeDepot to get a reducer to put a grow tent booster on the exhaust because the included fan for mine was a joke. Build in, but not nearly powerful enough.

      @@CDale-tc3xz Nice, getting hands on is the only way. I use a bounce house blower as the fume exhaust and it far better than anything else that Ive tried. If you use lightburn its easy to do a material test card with different power and speed settings.
