    Tip, if you poly, or poly stain your wood first, then laser etch and cut, you are able to remove the burn halos using alcohol and a cloth... It's also easier to brush poly the entire wood before it's cut or etched. Then you can still use the spray after the cleanup for a final coat...

    • @tlwestre

      I’d recommend water based Polyurethane (Ie: polycrilic) because it doesn’t yellow like oil based. Just make sure you stir and don’t shake because you will introduce a ton of micro bubbles in the finish. I also don’t like foam brushes for the same reason.

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can, but you need to paint the surface black to make it work. But you can use watercolors which can be removed easily after engraving.

  • @sannyassi73
    @sannyassi73 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You don't need spraypaint to engrave into Stainless Steel, but it does help sometimes. I've found certain stainless engraves really well without paint, while others don't- I think thickness and exact composition of the metal is what makes the difference.

      @JTMakesIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, on my website I have an article with more descriptions next to each project found in this video. For some designs I also posted the vector files. I didn't attach lightburn files for everything, because you need to adjust all the settings according to the material you use. But if you really want the lightburn file for the ticket, send me an email and I will sent it to you. I think everyrhing was done with 600mm/min. 100% power for cutting (1 pass) and about 40% power for text and photo engraving. Perforation was done by enabling perforation mode for one layer in Lightburn

    The following questions from a technical point of view:
    1) is the Laser Module 90w replaceable if it is defective? if so, where do you get these laser modules?
    2) can you also operate a 60w laser module with an S9? or is the electronics (CNC control board) designed accordingly? maybe this question has already been asked in this chat ...
    3) same question as 1) for the CNC control board?

      Hi, the module is easily replacable and upgradable. It takes a less than a minute to remove the head. The s6 and s9 heads are interchangable and so are the driver boards. Mechanically the are also the same.
      The replacement/upgrade heads will probably be listed on banggood. But the life span of the head should be very long.

You would just need to purchase longer belts and cabling would also need to be extended. Maybe they will sell extension kit in the future. But this laser as it is is still very big.
      As for the ventilation box, I do not have plans and component lists because I built it from the parts I had at hand. Thanks for watching! I don't remember exactly, but 600mm/min and 6 passes took 45min approximately. It would cut it in way less passes but I always set more passes just to be sure. There is always a stubborn patch of glue somewhere in this wood.

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I have never tried cutting MDF, so I can't say it, but the 10mm is about the practical maximum for softer woods. For 10mm Poplar plywood it takes around 20-25 passes at 600mm/min. I think it would need quite a lot of passes. You can go slower and use much less passes, but there would be more charring. For fast cutting of thick boards, you would need much more expensive machine.

    Thank you for your review on the product. I am looking for a laser cutting machine that cuts 2mm thick royal board thick paper with having the paper burnt while laser cutting it in close. i need to cut 2~10 mm thick acrylics for my architectural scale models. is there it for me?

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should br able to cut 2mm paper. The only problem I see is in acrylic. It depends on what color it is. Black acrylic is the easierst to cut but 10mm thick is the very maximum for all machines and they will cut it very slowly. None of the machines will be able to cut transparent acrylic, for it you would need a different kind of laser

    • @JTMakesIt

      I don't remember the exact numbers, but I use the lowest possible power that gives you results, because you can quickly burn through. It should be around 30-40% power at around 1000-1500mm/min.
      The number should be a bit different for various kinds of denim.

      Hi, I haven't tested the Atomstack A5 pro plus, so I can't say which one is better. Whey should be somewhat similar. BubI don't like the Atomatack light ahield design because it does not allow you to lower the head more than optimal focus. It comes very handy to lower the head a few mm more than normal when cutting thicker materials.

      @@JTMakesIt S9 and X7-A10 are both the next generation diode laser machines. Regardless there current price point. S9 is, if I understand correctly, a 5,5W laser, (comparable to a 90W CO-2 laser?). X7 is a 10W laser (2x5W). This should be in theory more powerful with faster cutting results? In your conclusion of the S6 vs X5 the engraving capacity gives a better result with the S6 due to a more uniformed laser point in vertical and horizontal lines. The laser point in X5 is more rectangular compared to S6. This might have improved in the A10-X7? When the atomstack is more powerful then the sculpfun the lifecycle might be a good bit longer giving similar results with running the machine with lower power? This justifies the higher price?
