I have a love for the Twin Snakes, even more so than the original Metal Gear Solid 1. Though I must admit, I didn't grow up with Metal Gear Solid, or PlayStation for that matter. I mostly stuck with Nintendo consoles and PC until 2007, when I got an Xbox 360 Elite. After playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and playing as Solid Snake, it motivated me to buy Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and finally dip my toes in the Metal Gear franchise back in 2010. Though I did see my younger brother play MGS4 back in 2009 when it was relatively new, our first foray into the franchise didn't start until at least three months later.
@@ResidentNotEvil5silicone knights doesn't own the rights to anything anymore. they went bankrupt in 2014. The rights to that game are owned by Nintendo.
3:18 I would laugh my ass off if they left the same references to PS3 for guns of the patriots, especially before returning to the furnace and at the end of the boss fight with the last one waifu. However, there is another game that should "legally" leave the Nintendo nest, namely Ghost Babel and also 2 Acid formally exclusive to the PSP.
Someone once suggested that MGS:TTS was a retelling of the events from Otacon's perspective, as a 'tall tale'. So the over the top action was Otacon's way of describing Snake's antics to be like 'one of his animes'.
Theorist babble nonsense. The reason is: Kojima directly authorized the director (who was suggested by himself iirc) to go all out with the cutscenes and make it totally in his own style, instead of respecting too much the line of the original. And that is an over the top guy. So that's the natural result. The end. Simple.
I don't think that's the 'reason', but that's the 'headcanon' I've always gone with. MGS1 is the actual events, and Twin Snakes is like, the "Legend of Shadow Moses".
It would be interesting to see it on there but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were planning on saving a game like that for a possible collection 3. Idk why but I get the feeling collection 2 & even a 3 will have fewer games than C1 due to them requiring more work done as well as taking up more space on a disc.
Maybe they will have it, a lot of people are saying they will put 5 in it, but that won’t make sense, since that game is the most easy game to get platform wise. My best guess is going to be 4, peace walker, and probably 5, maybe rising and portable ops as a bonus, but I’m really hoping they add twin snakes
I don't think it'll ever happen. Basically a rule in the industry. Ignore specific versions of a game in compilations and/or remakes. Heck just look at Onimusha. When they remastered it, they used the PS2 version instead of the infinitely superior Xbox version with better balance, better game mechanics, more difficulty and an extra dungeon (called Genma Onimusha). There's tons of examples of these types of things throughout the years. There was a point in time when these niche versions of games did get attention and were included in compilations or used for remakes, but these days publishers/developers just pretend they never happened. Also, this MGS collection is about as effortless as it gets in terms of actual games. It's okay on the bonuses front, but for the games themselves they put in the bare minimum of effort. Getting Twin Snakes running would require far more effort than they put into all of the games in the collection put together, so that's not gonna happen.
Twin snakes was a broken mess with all the heart and effort to atmosphere and tension removed. On paper it sounds great, but in reality all the new features brought over from mgs2 made no sense to have. They broke the level design so entire sections could be cut out by just jumping over a railing. Bosses could be cheesed with the mgs2 first person and movement. The tranq gun made no sense to have or use as it had no impact on the story whatsoever ever (it still killed people) and not to mention atmospheric stuff like the colour palet swap and sound track changes which were key design choices that made the original a genius masterpiece. Sorry bro, but this game is a derpy mess 😂
@@Clemo86 It could have worked but with gameplay adjustments, like careful selection of which mgs2 features to keep and which ones to leave out for the sake of balance. And changing the level design was also necessary. Which would take some of the nostalgia magic away of course... But it would be nothing but a safety measure to keep the game from breaking in a remake.
@@Clemo86 1. I enjoyed being able to Hard-Aim 2. The tranq gun has always still killed bosses in cutscenes, it's just for your rank, they made boss kills count against you 3. The only thing I remember being able to *skip* using MGS2 mechanics was the two PAL backtracks at the end of the game. You're just hating because of the rocket jump and Johnny having underwear.
@@kjh4496 Twin Snakes is a completely different experience and is still a significant part of Metal Gears history, so fans should be able to play it first hand if they want to.
@sasaki999pro LoL, a significant pile of trash 😂 sorry bro, not meaning to be toxic. But this game needed a better developer. They completely destroyed a classic by copy and pasting game mechanics from a newer title without thinking of how it would impact level design and gutted all atmosphere the original cultivated by adding over the top cheesy cutscenes, changing the colour palet for no good reason and changing the soundtrack (the original sound track was more strategically designed than people realise) I'm happy emulating the originals and don't see the point in bying the remasters. So I don't care what they release. I hope you get the game at some stage bro.
@@Clemo86 Again, the collection has the trash MGS1 for NES that has no reason to be there than "it's a diffrent game, include it".(Its sequel is in there I guess, but you really do not need the context of the first NES game to understand it, they don't really do much to smoothly connect to each other) May as well have included TS.
There is a good point in this video that Metal Gear and Snakes Revenge are Originally Nintendo Games but still made it in The Masters Collection so why not Twin Snakes and for that matter Peace Walker is missing as well since it's an important story line between MGS and Snake Eater
I'm afraid it's not the same situation at all. Those MG games were Nintendo exclusives, but TTS was partially produced by Nintendo, which goes well beyond that. A remaster can still happen, but it will have to be as a separate remaster altogether, instead of part of a collection, and be exclusive to Nintendo platforms.
I remember being on active duty as a Marine and literally going out to buy a tv, and GameCube just to relive the Metal Gear experience, with MGS2 graphics! Yes the cut scenes were over the top, but it didn’t take away the fun of playing one of my favorite games growing up.
My first MG was MGS4 in 08 so when I went to look at fan opinions of Twin Snakes I was surprised at the claims of it being too over the top. I'd already assumed the tone of the series was like this seeing a cyborg ninja and a genetically modified super soldier who acts like a vampire fight Matrix style
@@johnm3907 Metal Gear Solid 1 still had some over the top stuff, just not as much and it was still somewhat grounded(as much as can be when having covering psychic enemies existing that is). MGS2 fully embraced being over the top and was seen as good. MGS3 went even more over the top. It's considered the best MGS ever. So as far as I can see, using that as a reason TS is bad is literally just pedantic hypocrisy like the RE4Make haters are doing by saying the OG is superior in every way for the most pedantic reasons.
A lot of people never played Twin Snakes. Hopefully it's in one of the Master Collections. It's always been a great game to me. Having more options for how the player approaches each situation is cool to me. I liked the MGS2 gameplay being implemented into MGS1. It just gave you more ways to tackle things.
@WllKiedSnake I mean that the original mgs didn't have first person aiming, so when they put it in the levels and gameplay weren't meant to have it. It's well known it's unbalanced.
Fingers crossed it will be included in a future collection. I never owned a gamecube & didn't get the chance to play twin snakes so I hope Konami will add it 🤞🏻
I always imagine Twin Snakes as someone retelling the story of Shadow Moses. Such as Otacon or Natasha. From their point of, Snake is a badass superhero so they naturally add the over the top flavour :D.
I still would like the Twin Snakes be in the next collection or it would be nice to get an official English translated Policenauts since the game was referenced in Octocon’s dialogue after you beat Cyborg Ninja. Maybe they could add Metal Gear Soild 4, Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2 or Metal Gear Rising: Revengance with all the DLC.
Back when I was a shitty little yout, yes, you hit the nail on the head right at the beginning. The backflip onto the missile took me over the edge into "I can no longer suspend my disbelief" territory. Now, after watching it again, I still think its dumb as hell, but would love to replay this on my PlayStation. I suppose there's always piracy if they wont sell it to me again.
twin snakes is way better than the original. back then in 04 nobody really said something bad about that game my older brother who also grew up with the og even said it's way better.. it's also an original hideo kojima game he was still producer and designer of twin snakes so everything that happend in the game is mostly because of his decision. and the over the top cutscenes are really a poor point of critics because every mgs game got over the top cutscenes it's just a dumb point to hate on. And later like 2013-16 people in youtube said so many stupid biased things against this game. And I came to the conclusion they probably wanted to destroy the reputation and legacy of silicon knight games so that's why they hate on thier games because they had something controversial going on in that time and now that studio don't exist anymore and is shutdown. Now I see way more people are biased against that game than ever before. In my eyes it's just a good remake of mgs 1 In the engine of mgs 2 and it's as faithful as it can be.
@@Labbish1 nah never saw someone complaining about that even friends didn't had a problem with it and people I knew who played it I never heard that especially in that time when matrix was big and everybody loved it. It probably was some dumb gaming journalism in a magazine because someone didn't like it and that's how they influenced the opinions of people back in the day.
To the smooth-brains in this thread that hate the cutscenes in Twin Snakes: Hideo Kojima INSTRUCTED Silicon Knights to make the Cutscenes more crazy and action packed. Literally, ANYONE that complains about over the top cutscenes in Twin Snakes is a fake fan. You're telling me that driving a motorcycle up Ocelot's face, doing a midair gun-slinging backflip off him, and peeling out up a staircase over the roof of a crumbling ruin and into the NON-EXISTENT RUSSIAN JUNGLE wasn't over the top? I mean, have you even played these games? Electrified bisexual Muscle-Man with a Boyfriend the spitting image of Raiden like 25 years before he's born, who can identify him by package squeeze, launches a HAND HELD NUKE INTO THE FOREST!? Anybody pretending Hideo Kojima himself wouldn't have made MGS1 that absurd if the PS1 had the power to do it, is literally lying to themselves, LMAO! As if this guy has that kind of restraint! Complain about the music being inferior, complain about some voice actors phoning in the new performances. Complain about the MGS2 mechanics neutering the challenge completely when applied to MGS1, with no other alterations to accommodate that. These are valid critiques. But the cutscenes? How media illiterate can people be? Good video Python!
MGS: The Twin Snakes is one of my most favorite games in the Metal Gear series as well as one of my most favorite GameCube games too! I would really love to see an HD port or something of this game next perhaps for the Nintendo Switch, if possible.
Twin Snakes, RE1 and RE0 are the only games I ever played on GameCube. Konami needs to remake MGS1 since they can't port it out of the GameCube due to legal ownership with Nintendo and Silicon Knights.
As pissed as I was Twin snakes wasn’t put in, in place of the original not even HD remastered or anything. This is a great reasoning. Admittedly as it had been many years , I forgot about the over dramatic cutscenes which may take away from how serious the original game was. Bring on the second volume ey. Twin snakes Peacewalker MGs4 if they can manage it. Hell I would love to see Metal Gear Raiden get some love again
Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, Peace Walker and Portable OPS should be main focus then Metal Gear Rising and Twin Snakes should be added as bonus games
I know everyone wants twin snakes and guns of the patriots for the next collection but I kinda of want the 3ds port of snake eater to get a port. I passed on it back in the day and kind of regret it. The novelty of snake eater in peace walkerd engine is pretty cool. Although all the 3ds exclusive features like being able to take photos in real life and turn them into camo and the obvious 3d feature would probably have to go. I highly doubt that version is as good let alone better but again I enjoy the novelty factor.
I would love to see this ported to PC or at the very least on PlayStation… for me it’s my favourite nostalgic mgs game and I find it ridiculous that it was only released on GameCube. It takes the original and remasters it with similar graphics to mgs2 and I love that considering the og version is needless to say rather hard on the eyes by todays standards
I played Metal Gear Solid, from the master collection vol 1 first, because i have the most fund memories with it. I owned a gamecube, back in the days, but i never got the twin snakes. So i hope they add it, in the Master Collection Vol 2. All the Metal Gear Games, are just amazing and i enjoy it a lot.
I remember once I read a comment about twin snakes was Otacon's version of the story, and I can agree with that. Anyways, I would love to play it since I never had a gamecube.
I'll keep shouting this out as I am a fan of both creators: I faintly remember reading somewhere (or it was rumored possibly) that Hideo Kojima had the cutscene direction of the Twin Snakes go to Ryuhei Kitamura, famously-known for directing the 2000 indie film "Versus" whom Hideo Kojima played an extra for. The film, is the closest thing to a live-action Devil May Cry that I've ever seen. And I adore the completely over-the-top presentations of the Twin Snakes as it had a special style to its own throughout the game. My thoughts on why it's not part-of the collection is because several MGS fans don't care for it, and the licensing through Nintendo may have had some entanglements to contend-with. An homage to Mario, Yoshi and a Gamecube dare not go without proper licensing, because Nintendo. Much like how there were licensing issues that delayed the reveal/release of the Master Collection as well as some parts were omitted from the collection because Konami was not able to obtain the licensing, depending if it was images of former programers as "ghosts" in the game or wartime footage. But yeah, I think we'd have a much better chance for Metal Gear Rising next-to Vol 2 than Twin Snakes.
@@WllKiedSnake Plenty of fans out there who might disagree I’d imagine. Imagine being 16 and playing MGSV as your first MGS, then not having access to a Gamecube. Doesn’t make that person any less a fan I don’t think, beyond un-seasoned perhaps. Or even if they can’t get-into the fixed camera angles of the classics. Could definitely say the same for the Resident Evil games. And if they just like the remakes cause they look the best and play the best for them, that’s cool too, right?
@Dustrauma Where did I say not having access to a Gamecube to play Twin Snakes does not make you a fan? Quit projecting what you want me to say onto me. But if you don't like Twin Snakes you definitely aren't a fan. As it is an MGS game. And Kojimas true vision for MGS1. They messed up his vision in the translation and dub for the Western release of the original MGS. So for Twin Snakes he fixed that. So Twin Snakes whether you like it or not, is the true vision of MGS1. And if you don't like it. How are you a MGS fan. Especially with how many people have actually played it. And who are these people who don't like the classic Resi games because of the camera angles? Oh! They don't exist. You made that up to fit your narrative.
If twin snakes was included, I would have played the original ps1 version first before playing twin snakes. I also would have purchased this bundle if it was included. The ps1 version is already easy to obtain, unlike the gc version.
There's a lot of problems preventing Twin Snakes from seeing a rerelease. Not because we, Konami or Nintendo don't want to. But because Silicon Knights went bankrupt in 2014, and it's widely believed that the source code and development assets were lost in the process. Konami wasn't involved in its development, so they're not likely to have a copy of the source code and assets with them. Which means unless someone can reverse-engineer the game, the only other way to play it is to emulate the GameCube version.
What IF....They come out with a Master Collection Vol. 3 that is nothing but extra stuff and non canon or extra games games 😎 Like Twin Snakes, Acid 1 & 2 ,subsistence content, extra VR missions, MGSV Ground Zero Demo, MGS4's extra story content, the side comics and what ever else they can stuff in there.
I’ve loved the MGS series since I was a kid but I only got round to playing the Twin Snakes a year or so back, although it was awesome to have MGS2’s graphics and gameplay there seemed to be a lack of something in all the newly recorded voices and cutscenes, it didn’t have the same emotional impact as the first MGS, I still had a great time playing it though !
Something similar to how Halo Master Chief Collection released would be cool, the option to press one button to switch textures from classic to remake graphics would be cool
There existed a set of cutscenes for this game, done by film director Ryuhei Kitamura, that match the original game with more dramatic and cinematic feeling. Hideo Kojima had them canned, he'd brought Kitamura on because he was a fan of his pulp action films and wanted that style of over the top action in the cutscenes. With those instructions, Kitamura went back into the project and went full ham, Kojima immediately loved and approved these new cutscenes and that's what we got in the final game. Also, if you feel these cutscenes were over the top, you haven't seen anything, his own films are ridiculous. He's directed the live action 'Lupin the 3rd', 'Godzilla: Final Wars' (yes its the one that has Godzilla kill the 1998 American movie Godzilla in a curb-stomp battle) and my personal favorite 'Versus', which is about zombie vampire samurais with guns fighting over a girl, amongst many other films. Back in the mid-2000's, I'd always hoped he'd get picked up to do a live action version of 'S-cry-ed', as in his style with it's insane battle junkie main character, would have been a perfect fit.
Master collection vol 2 better have twin snakes, it's literally the only thing stopping me from playing the series again. Older games look like crap on our lg tvs.
Yeah, I remember the poll. The original MGS1 was the only version of MGS1 available in Volume 1 and that's why I voted that's the Metal Gear I will be playing first. I just wish that Master Collection would give us an option to play MGS1 in HD Resolution though. I've been clamoring for an HD Version of MGS1 since the PS3 era and now I've been robbed of this feature in the Master Collection. 😩 I like The Twin Snakes, I like the Remake having MGS2 Gameplay, but I have personal issues with the game: My BIGGEST GRIPE is that the visual looks dark compared to the Original and MGS2 that I can barely see, it doesn't look good. 😩 Some of the glitches kill the game: The camera near the stairs in the tank hangar always spot you no matter what you do, except if you use Chaff and if you get spotted even once you always get Alert 3 times, even if you Reset the game or die and exit. And some of the cutscenes are ruined: the Original cutscene with the tower bridge was dramatic. After the bridge gets destroyed the Hind appears and Snake runs toward the handrail where you're supposed to use the Rope, but in Twin Snakes after the bridged is destroyed a metal debris flies towards Snake, Snake chucks a Grenade at it, WALK TOWARDS the handrail where you're supposed to use the Rope, the Hind appears and there's NO MORE DRAMATIC RUNNING! And in the cutscene where Gray Fox dies, why does Snake scream his name before he gets crush? Apparently the reason for the rerecording was not only for better recording quality because when the original MGS1 voice recording was imported to Gamecube, cars passing by could be heard in the background, but Kojima demanded that the dialogue be redone to be more close to his original work due to Jeremy Blaustein's fault for changing it. Especially Psycho Mantis's last words during his death. He intended to be "This is the first time I've ever used my power to help someone... It's strange... Such a nostalgic feeling..." due to the nostalgia of his mother giving birth to him.
People can have their opinions about the cutscenes but the MGS2 style gameplay is just cool to experience (and my preferred when I replay the series too)
I wanted to play the remake and Resident Evil remake so much, but I was young and broke to have another console, besides my PS2. I finally played it on my Wii back in 2009. This, 4, Portable Ops, and PW should be in V2.
People really exaggerate and make up a lot of overly complicated nonsense as to why the game has never been ported. I think the simple explanation is just there is not that big of a demand for the game despite how much it's rabid vocal minority of a fanbase screams for it. Every reason about it supposedly being owned by Nintendo never made any sense and when you stop and think about it for a minute you realize there's no way Nintendo has control over this game instead of Konami. The back of the box and the opening credits literally say "production copyright: Konami computer entertainment Japan". I really wish people would stop spreading this misinformation about who owns the game and would actually do some research. Every quote you find online that says the contrary just comes from some random nobody in the comment section of some random gaming forum, and because no one seems to do any research, lies like that snowball into culturally accepted truths (the irony of that considering what mgs2 is about😑).
I would love an MGS collection that would finally include Twin Snakes, MGS4 Guns of the Patriots, Ghost Babel, Portable Ops, and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.
Twin Snakes is the best way to experience MGS. Having recently played the original on the Master Collection, the cutscenes have more flavor, this is the only game where we see Snake do super soldier stuff (and, trying to say it's not "realistic" on a series where the protagonist fights helicopters, tanks and robots, and where there are also mediums, and arms that control people, it's a stupid statement). The script is also worked better, the dialogues are better constructed, the delivery is so much better, and Naomi and Mei Ling no longer have those terrible accents. Might be my favorite Metal Gear Solid game. I hope it's included in one of the future Master Collections.
I am playing The Twin Snakes for the first time as we speak, it's pretty decent actually to be fair. I think I would have raved over this if I had a GameCube at the time.
About the Nintendo references, they could be left in on the Switch, but removed on other consoles. Similarly to LEGO City Undercover, where all Mario references were kept for the Switch version, but removed on PC, PS4, Xbox One, etc.
Even though I know people don't care for Twin Snakes I personally would just like the ability to be able to play via an official remaster. It always confused me why the original HD Collection/Legacy Collection never featured that game in particular. I will admit I'm slightly biased for it because Ryuhei Kitamura (The director of Versus 2000/Ultimate Versus) did the CG cutscenes because I love his movies and had no idea that him and Kojima were actually friends.
Well it's pretty obvious why. It's a remake of a game that already exists on the Master collection. And it sadly didn't boast well with the majority of Metal Gear fans. I can list all the major complaints that work against TTS. Of course you got the Over the top cutscenes which people say ape the tone and take away from the brilliant voice acting which in this version, it's not bad. But some of the characters have lost their accents, lines were slightly altered and didn't make too much of a difference. But overall, they didn't use the superior voice recordings from the original game. Granted the actors did confirm that they recorded in a house that didn't have any soundproof walls. That just comes down to cost. So it was cheaper to rerecord the dialogue from scratch. But the cutscenes, I was indifferent to. Not saying much. But it was pretty silly seeing Snake jump off a missile in mid air. Also people forget that even the original had it's fair share of wacky moments. Don't let it fool you. It still had a better and constant tone than TTS. I dunno. On one hand, I like how it embraces being self aware. But on the other hand, the original was better directed. So it's which version do you prefer. Now where I can see the game getting backlash and I critiqued it for this very reason is the gameplay. Now I'll admit. I was interested in seeing the original MGS with MGS2 gameplay incorporated in it. But when I played RE1 remake back to back with TTS, then played TTS back to back with the original MGS, I noticed why RE remake was better and why TTS failed. Most of the perimeters of the first game felt intacted. But because of the inclusion of the MGS2 design, the entire game felt off. Even on higher difficulties, it still felt too easy. Now of course the argument is you don't have to use them if you don't want to. But that's another thing. You already start with maxed out health. So not staying true to the challenge or semblance of difficulty the original had isn't a good balance. I'm all for making some areas easier, cough cough Comms Tower Extreme difficulty. But that doesn't mean I want the entire game to be easy either. Look at what RE remake done. It still felt like a one to one remake of the original. But they added new shortcuts, redesigned the puzzles, maintained a proper challenge the original RE game had, and added two new things to keep it fresh. First was the crimson head zombies that were enhanced. Then the inclusion of the Trevor family which had a still lingering member, Lisa Trevor. Now aside from this issues and the exclusion of the VR missions, TTS wasn't a bad game. It was just drastically different from the original. It is a pick your preference. But it's not like the worst game ever. I am glad I got to play it to some extent. But it's just not a very good remake. And that's why I think it fails. Maybe I'm too harsh and maybe because it's getting more praise, people are starting to like it and good for it I guess. But the original is just timeless. But unfortunately people ain't going to want to overcome a challenge to play and beat the original. They're going to prefer the remake.
Remember Halo Anniversary? They had a toggle for original or updated graphics. They could have done the same here with slight environmental and cut scene changes
3:28 They won't mind, but Nintendo definitely will. They don't allow any of their stuff appear in other platforms kinda like Rocket League's exclusive skins not appearing in other platforms. I think the only game where they missed is the JP version of Phantasy Star Online 2 where the BoTW stuff can be played on other platforms. If Twin Snakes was planned to be in a multi-platform collection, they would probably have to alter the Nintendo references outside the Switch version (or probably including that too so it'll be easier) to have it appear, and I doubt Konami will not take the lazy route and just exclude it entirely.
I don't even think it is an issue of marketing that kept it off and more to do with how it was Silicon Knights that made it. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but Silicon Knights dying may have taken the games source code with them and may infact be the very reason why it never saw a rerelease again as such.
@@VagueSpaces Silicon Knights was a partially owned by Nintendo, and as such, Nintendo inherited the rights to TTS. This is why Snake is a playable character in the Smash series. Nintendo are never going to give or even sell those rights back to Konami, because he's an IP they can profit from.
@@prizegottiYeah. Nintendo funded the game, and i doubt they want a remaster on anything else than Switch. It's unlikely that Konami have the assets of this game.
@@V3ntilator It always surprises me that the Big N never considered (until maybe a few generations ago - the Wii era, maybe) the PC as a platform for their games.
@@OnafetsEnovap Yamauchi were still the boss sometime back then and the chance of PC ports were 0%. When Wii launched, PC market were in it's worst shape ever. Most console game makers ignored PC back then. Only Valve believed in PC, and managed to make PC market bigger than ever alone. I don't think Switch 2 will be as successful as Switch, because PC gamers buy PC Handhelds instead of Nintendo handhelds now. Nintendo might be forced in to PC market in a few years.
I could come up with six reasons. 1) silicon knights were given the keys to the IP for this entry. 2) Konami. They probably saw the numbers and were like "Clearly people like the original more so let's stick with that". 3) Its source code may not have been preserved so the game may have been lost to time or good portions of it may still be gone. 4) Missile jump. 5) It wouldn't have fit on the game card for Switch. But in fairness the download file after putting the cartridge in was over 30 gigs. 6) You think Konami not enhancing the PS1 original was bad? Imagine what treatment this would get. It would be a straight up conversion for modern consoles and you'd have the internet whipping out their pitchforks and torches for 60 fps and resolution options on a console.
I just finished playing through both MGS and TTS. Ryuhei Kitamura was the one contracted to direct the action scenes in TTS. I was familiar with with some of his films such as Versus and Azumi (Hideo Kojima actually had a cameo appearance in Azumi.) So i was excited about TTS. Bought a gamecube specifically for this one game. I rather enjoyed the over the top actions sequences. My biggest complaint was changing some of the dialogue. I realize the changes were supposed to be more like a direct translation from the Japanese script, and Kojima took offense to Jeremy Blaustein changing the dialogue to better suit western audiences. In my opinion, in the original, Snake delivers one of the greatest lines in video game history after finding the parachute in the snow field. "He'd be sliced up faster than an onion on an infomercial." I really missed that in TTS. I also found Jennifer Hale's performance subpar and Kim Mai Guest not having an accent was jarring at the time. They are still my favorite games, though! Combine both versions, I've completed them over 100 times.
When I was introduced to the Metal Gear series, I started with Twin Snakes, because I was told it was a remake of the first one, I compared both and decided to play the one that seemed more modern. The funny thing is that I played it like it was supposed to be played like Metal Gear Solid from PS1, I didn't even know it had Sons of Liberty gameplay.
I think this is probably a messy situation. Twin Snakes was developed by Silicon Knights, which was a 2nd party Nintendo developer at the time. Konami would want to get it on every port of Vol. 2 to avoid hurting the value proposition by only having it on the Switch/Switch 2 port. I'm guessing this would require a lot of cooperation from Nintendo to happen.
If they finally did the decent thing of including Snake's revenge then this should apply to all metal gear games as it does not matter if they are canon or not they are still games related to the franchise and some of us played them as the only games we had available at that time.
I think another reason why twin snakes wasn't put in volume 1 is because it was made by Silicon Knights, due to how it was dismantled who's to say if Konami even has the data of it... or if they want the Silicon Knights version re released to begin with. My guess, they could have been re making the twin snakes from the ground up in some shape of form.
@SetoShadow41 Not it wouldn't. They already emulate MGS1, and the MSX, NES and Famicom Metal Gear games in the Master Collection Volume 1. And they can just remove the Nintendo related stuff for a Twin Snakes port.
I know Rising & Portable Ops aren't technically canon, but if they can be released alongside 4, V & PW, we'll finally have the entire narrative of the series on the same platform
I played MGS on PS1 between 50-100 times. I played it on Gamecube once. There are YT videos going into much more detail on why it fell short, better explaining then I.
Twin snakes only gets hate because it was on GCN and not PS2. If it arrived on PS2, Sony fans and critics would be praising it's Matrix style cutscenes today.
I’m guessing rereleasing it is tricky. Given Nintendo’s role in bankrolling TTS and Silicon Knights being the actual ones that made the remake. Probably have better odds of a MGS1 Delta style remake if MGS3 Delta does well.
Even before the reviews, I knew going up the elevator at the beginning, that things were gonna be different. Having the new camera angles and epic music play during that intro was so dope back then(and tbh still is). The game had things I didn’t like about it but it did so many great things as well. At this point I don’t mind if we don’t get it ported, I would prefer a full remake of the first game
I suspect the reason we haven’t seen Twin Snakes rereleased on other platforms is not because it was a Nintendo exclusive at the time, but rather the fact that it was a Nintendo co-production with Konami. Nintendo was actively involved in the making of this game with Konami. The developer of this game, Silicon Knights, were at the time a second party developer of Nintendo. That makes me wonder if that doesn’t affect the legalities behind rereleasing the game on other platforms. I believe the credits are loaded with Nintendo staff and Shigeru Miyamoto is listed as Executive Producer. Maybe it has no affect at all, but is unusual to me that this game has never gotten any kind of rerelease.
That would still leave the game open to be rereleased on Nintendo plattforms if all else fails tho. And unless they run by the dumb parity-clause of "everyone gets the same, which sometimes means nothing at all", I don't see the issue.
This may sound odd, but Konami might not have rights for Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes. This could be the case as they gawe rights of first MGS to Nintendo, who then wanted Silicon Knights to develop it. However, deal might have expire date, but it is more likely hat Twin Snakes will stay only on Nintendo - consoles.
It is hard to know if we are going to get Twin Snakes. If we are going to get this game, they need to remove the GameCube console and the dolls of Yoshi and Mario. Like you said. Another thing Konami can do is to let us download Twin Snakes on Switch like a bonus game but if they do so it is the only game from the collection that owners of Playstation and Xbox never can play on their consoles.
there's probably something to do with it being developed by Silicon Knights. I'm not a fan of TT, but it would be much better to at least have the option to chose how you're going to play MGS1. Most youngsters would pick TT first due to its improved graphics and gameplay, then go for the real thing later to see Kojima's vision of the first game.

Because the rights own by Nintendo and silicone knight
What people don't know is that Nintendo had own the rights for Twin Snakes for 20 years.
@@sinchman1 yes but they didn't added to master collection such a waste
@@ResidentNotEvil5silicone knights doesn't own the rights to anything anymore. they went bankrupt in 2014. The rights to that game are owned by Nintendo.
This and Resident Evil remake are the only reason I bought a GameCube ... Still have them
Resident evil is a goated franchise especially re4
@@PRlME17 Bought a Dreamcast just for Code Veronica .... Still have the Dreamcast not the game though
I assume we are the same age (born in 1980): I bought the "Rubik console" for the same topics and later picked up the Dreamcast for Veronica code.
I bought mine for this and Metroid Prime! 😁
I love this comment. Very cool way of thinking
It's either that or The Twin Snakes is like an in-universe Hollywood movie adaptation of the events of Shadow Moses.
What I heard instead was that TTS is the version of Shadow Moses that _Raiden_ played through as part of his VR training.
I loved Twin Snakes, I hope it'll be in Master Collection Volume 2.
@ThatOldSchoolMagic dude some xbox 360 and ps3 games are literally 32gb with the way game consoles can literally do 120 or 200gb quit this nonsense
It's owned by Nintendo, so no
It would've been amazing if they added the Twin Snakes version.
Why.
@@Clemo86
1. I enjoyed being able to Hard-Aim
2. The tranq gun has always still killed bosses in cutscenes, it's just for your rank, they made boss kills count against you
3. The only thing I remember being able to *skip* using MGS2 mechanics was the two PAL backtracks at the end of the game.
You're just hating because of the rocket jump and Johnny having underwear.
@@TidePodsRFood OK 👍
Realistically, MGS4, Peace Walker and Twin Snakes should all be in Vol. 2 at the very least
No point, We already have MGS1.
@@kjh4496 Twin Snakes is a completely different experience and is still a significant part of Metal Gears history, so fans should be able to play it first hand if they want to.
@@kjh4496we got both versions of Metal Gear in volume 1.
@sasaki999pro LoL, a significant pile of trash 😂 sorry bro, not meaning to be toxic. But this game needed a better developer. They completely destroyed a classic by copy and pasting game mechanics from a newer title without thinking of how it would impact level design and gutted all atmosphere the original cultivated by adding over the top cheesy cutscenes, changing the colour palet for no good reason and changing the soundtrack (the original sound track was more strategically designed than people realise)
I'm happy emulating the originals and don't see the point in bying the remasters.
Peace Walker is confirmed for collection 2 with working online features, as are 4 and both parts of 5. But nothing else so far.
@@CommanderRedEXEI assume V won’t actually be in Vol. 2, it’d be soon to re-release it since it’s a PS4 game.
I remember being on active duty as a Marine and literally going out to buy a tv, and GameCube just to relive the Metal Gear experience, with MGS2 graphics! Yes the cut scenes were over the top, but it didn’t take away the fun of playing one of my favorite games growing up.
That Cyborg Ninja hallway scene I liked way more in Twin Snakes than the original. It was much more intense.
@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams that tone wasn't in the first though. Then they remade it and just took the piss.
ty for your service
It also made it really easy. You can just tranq guys from across the room.
@johnm3907 Options are nice huh? You also do that in every other MGS game after MGS1 on PS1. Tranq someone from a distance.
@@WllKiedSnake but they are designed for it. Mgs wasnt.
@@johnm3907 But Twin Snakes was also. Even the bosses can be tranquillised now.
@WllKiedSnake I mean that the original mgs didn't have first person aiming, so when they put it in the levels and gameplay weren't meant to have it. It's well known it's unbalanced.
A Developer On MGS: The Twin Snakes Said That The Game Can Come To Nintendo Switch
Fingers crossed it will be included in a future collection. I never owned a gamecube & didn't get the chance to play twin snakes so I hope Konami will add it 🤞🏻
Me too!
I always imagine Twin Snakes as someone retelling the story of Shadow Moses. Such as Otacon or Natasha. From their point of, Snake is a badass superhero so they naturally add the over the top flavour :D.
Canonically Twin Snakes can't be a retelling
m.th-cam.com/video/154VX5aXHy8/w-d-xo.html
Actually gamers hated matrix effects and soundtrack back then
@@Labbish1 nah never saw someone complaining about that even friends didn't had a problem with it and people I knew who played it I never heard that especially in that time when matrix was big and everybody loved it. MGS: Master Collection Vol. 2 : MGS4+MGS1TS+MGSPW+MGSGB+
To the smooth-brains in this thread that hate the cutscenes in Twin Snakes:
Hideo Kojima INSTRUCTED Silicon Knights to make the Cutscenes more crazy and action packed.
Hoping it comes out eventually, just like I root for Portable Ops to release in Vol. 2 aswell.
Since Peace Walker’s basically guaranteed to be in Vol. 2, MPO will probably be a bonus game
Let's hope we get it on Volume 2 or 3.

I feel sorry for you
@@Alien_isolationist Nah they were introduced to peak no need to be a purist about how.
MGS: The Twin Snakes is one of my most favorite games in the Metal Gear series as well as one of my most favorite GameCube games too! I would really love to see an HD port or something of this game next perhaps for the Nintendo Switch, if possible.
You are very right about what you say in the video, I think that for the next volume we will see Twin Snake.
I will never forget playing this game on the dolphin emulator in the spring of 2021, I played through it 4 times. Amazing game.
Twin Snakes, RE1 and RE0 are the only games I ever played on GameCube. Konami needs to remake MGS1 since they can't port it out of the GameCube due to legal ownership with Nintendo and Silicon Knights.
I bought a Game Cube for Twin Snakes. Still have my copy. It’s rare and worth more than a new game these days
I hope Twin Snakes is in Vol. 2. The GameCube version is nearly $200.

Peacewalker
MGs4 if they can manage it.

I am REALLY hoping this title won’t be a Nintendo Switch exclusive bonus once this inevitably gets released….i want to be able to play this on my PS5
Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, Peace Walker and Portable OPS should be main focus then Metal Gear Rising and Twin Snakes should be added as bonus games
Please Konami just bring Twin Snakes along with The Document of MGS2 !!!

God damn you Silicon Knights (MGS TT developer) ! Just allow MGS TT to be on all platforms already!
Twin Snakes is awesome!! I played it as a kid and loved the action sequences!
Please let the game be in Vol 2 because I've never played this game before.😊
I know everyone wants twin snakes and guns of the patriots for the next collection but I kinda of want the 3ds port of snake eater to get a port.
MGS: Master Collection Vol. 2 METAL GEAR SOLID Twin Snakes
I would love to see this ported to PC or at the very least on PlayStation… for me it’s my favourite nostalgic mgs game and I find it ridiculous that it was only released on GameCube. It takes the original and remasters it with similar graphics to mgs2 and I love that considering the og version is needless to say rather hard on the eyes by todays standards
the MGS game i wanted to play the most.
I don´t care if it copypasted Cutscenes a la DMC3.
Twin Snakes can't be Otacon's retelling
m.th-cam.com/video/154VX5aXHy8/w-d-xo.html
I would really like to see it in the vol.2!
That's not alleged
I don't even think you are a fan if you don't like MGS Twin Snakes. As it is a MGS game.
@@GeneFOX70 I just realized this now. A poor choice of words on my behalf. I meant to say something like.. rumored. 😆Appreciate the correction! 👍

I don't care, I love Twin Snakes even more than original.
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes should be in the next collection.
I think it would be good to include it, with all its flaws, its still a fun play
I love playing TS on steam deck. Having most the series on the go is amazing.

I like The Twin Snakes, I like the Remake having MGS2 Gameplay, but I have personal issues with the game: My BIGGEST GRIPE is that the visual looks dark compared to the Original and MGS2 that I can barely see, it doesn't look good. 😩
Some of the glitches kill the game: The camera near the stairs in the tank hangar always spot you no matter what you do, except if you use Chaff and if you get spotted even once you always get Alert 3 times, even if you Reset the game or die and exit.
People can have their opinions about the cutscenes but the MGS2 style gameplay is just cool to experience (and my preferred when I replay the series too)
Maybe in vol. 2? I’m sure Konami has seen the fan disappointment that it wasn’t included.
I love The Twin Snakes and I still prefer to play it when I replay MGS1.
If they can bring RE1 REMAKE for the modern consoles, then they can bring TTS for the PS5!
As someone who has never owned a Gamecube and has only seen the Twin Snakes gameplay from YT I wish they would release it same thing with Portable Ops
Ghost Babel and the Acids need to included in Vol 2!
Beside Twin Snakes hope they add MGS for Game Boy Color
Definitely agree! Keep up the great work 👍
I am playing The Twin Snakes for the first time as we speak, it's pretty decent actually to be fair.
Just remake MG1 scene for scene, gameplay and all, new gen graphics and they can take my money
Remember Halo Anniversary? They had a toggle for original or updated graphics. They could have done the same here with slight environmental and cut scene changes
Love how you threw in Portable Ops
Never got to play twin snakes. Always wanted to. Hope it’s on vol.2.
I don’t care what anyone says. I love twin snakes
I don't even think it is an issue of marketing that kept it off and more to do with how it was Silicon Knights that made it. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but Silicon Knights dying may have taken the games source code with them and may infact be the very reason why it never saw a rerelease again as such.
Licensing reasons?
Yup, I think licensing reasons will...keep you waiting
I've never played Twin Snakes & I really want to...I love MGS1, but struggle with the visuals & controls/gameplay in modern times...
Why would the missile jump be the reason it was not included?
MGS4 Guns of the patriots. Arguably the best installment imho
Really would like MGS4 and Portable Ops to be included in Vol. 2
They could just emulate it and release it that way. A few of the games in Master Collection Volume 1 are just emulated versions.
@@WllKiedSnake While that is true, it would be a slippery slope when it comes to legal stuff
@SetoShadow41 Not it wouldn't. They already emulate MGS1, and the MSX, NES and Famicom Metal Gear games in the Master Collection Volume 1. And they can just remove the Nintendo related stuff for a Twin Snakes port.
The Twin Snakes would be a great add-on regardless
This is exactly why it would've been in volume 1.
MGS Master Collection Vol. 2 should include:
- MGS4
- MGR: Revengeance
- MGS: Twin Snakes
- MGS: Peacewalker
- MGS: Portable Ops
- MGS5: Ground Zeroes
- MGS5: The Phantom Pain
+ more additional release content
Why this much? Because MGS Master Collection Vol. 1 had 5 main titles(plus more):
- MGS1
- MGS2
- MGS3
- Metal Gear
- Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
- MGS1's VR Missions
- Snake Tales
+ more addiontional release content
