This is the same process for changing out the ignition switch actuator, which is the plastic piece that connects the key to the little white box on the bottom of the steering column. I was once left stranded because this piece (Dorman 47510) broke and I could not actuate my ignition with the key. Luckily just removing the bolts on that white box, you can manually operate the function on the ignition. Just stick your key in the ignition and with your hand push the little peg on the white box forward a few clicks and then all the way under spring pressure will start the car (just as you turn the key). Hopefully that helps someone, great video!

Thank you so much man. I’m in america so I have to mirror everything you’re doing haha, not exactly ideal. But FINALLY I found a video where it’s the wheel itself that’s wobbling. Like no, I don’t have any play when turning. My WHEEL ITSELF IS LOOSE!! Took me forever to find a proper video. Thanks again and have a lovely evening

Excellent. That steering wheel is going nowhere. So glad the airbag did not explode in your face! Keep the videos coming

The US models do have the metal cross beam. Thank you for this video, it was very helpful, and your kiddos are awesome!

As previously mentioned by a another commenter, the US spec cars have the brace, as well. Mine is a 1996 GT.

Thanks, it looks like a strange after thought on this car - it must be the way they converted it to RHD...

Bro, I'm doing the exact procedure today! Thanks so much for the info. As far as the crossbeam under the dash, my 1994 US model has the same design.

Is there anything in the column that would give the steering a sensitive feel when turning the wheel? Like not much tension when turning the steering wheel?

Hi James, the steering column is a pretty simple device. I don't think there's anything in there that would make your steering go light. I would suggest that the ease with which your wheel turns has more to do with the steering rack, and probably more with the power steering pump.

@@Horus_Works yeah I guess it’s getting down to those objects as being the culprit. Thank you for responding!

I will partially take apart my 2001 American Cobra dashboard when I get a chance to see the difference between the Australian and USA version.
