did you get it right in the end ? - I am the same - maybe 3mm out of centre and it is driving me crazy !!!!! - when the alignment centre was trying to get this done they were going either too far left or too far right - and I need a "sweet" center spot on !!!
@@juanojeda8069 You need to do it to both sides to keep the alignment. So in his case, car was drifting right..so need to adjust the toe left.. so he shortened drivers side rod (this pulls the rear of the wheel closer so it turns the whole wheel left and then extend/lengthen the passenger side so it 'pushes' the rear of the wheel which turns the wheel left also.
@@RoxusRemowait I think I see how I fucked up. So “opposite” turn directions, is actually the same, because the rods are pointing opposite directions. I have the same problem with my Nissan Quest and Toyota Camry. I thought it was an alignment issue and would have taken the car to the shop. But with this video's help I'm going to fix it myself.
Make sure your alignment is good tho first. This fix is geared towards cars that just got an alignment and now the steering wheel is off. If its been a while since you've had an alignment, this might not fully solve the issue
Thank you Bros 4 speed for your explanation. Note if the tie rod ends are infront of the centre axle, the adjustments are the opposite way round. Same principle.
Yeah unfortunate lots of mechanics aren't actually good at what they do and don't know much. When you find a shop that knows how to do things properly, thats rare! That's why I just things myself
Yes it worked on xc40 , after 3 alignments back to back the wheel was either like yours or on the oter side. I had to do 3 turns clockwise for right and anticlockwise to left(driver) and voilà Tip, if the safety nut is not comming off , heat it ..
hello I have a question, did you walk on both sides? How much did you turn on one side, did you turn on the other side? For example, on the right side, did you turn 1 turn to the right and on the left side, 1 turn to the left? Thanks
In my experience of getting wheel alignment, none of these tyre centres are using the clamp that fits up under the bottom of the steering wheel, and the top of the drivers seat. This clamp obviously hold the steering wheel in place, while the mechanic carries out the wheel alignment. It's very frustrating. Tanx for the very beneficial upload !!! 👌
Yeah my 23 Camry Le does that I’m going straight and the steering wheel is a lot to the left , they said alignment was done fine, but they probably didn’t think about that rod! Thank you next time I’ll let them know
What's crazy is I took my car back to the shop after they aligned it bc of this issue and they tried to tell me I had to fix my rack and pinion plus the steering bushing for $2700...lack of integrity these days are eye opening
Thanks for this vid! Here in the UK they do a rubbish job too and it’s never straight after getting alignment done. I’ve got OCD and my steering wheel needs to be straight! I’m going to give it go 👍
I’m having the same issue with my duramax! I’m gonna try this. Dropped the truck off to get an alignment done today, drove the truck, still had this issue.
Thank you for the very instructive video. My steering wheel "points to" 1 o´clock (slightly right), and I want thus adjust it counterclockwise to "noon".
quite literally just what happened to me today! Got aligned twice at the shop and still appears to have the steering wheel crooked to the left. Front right wheel is clearly visually more toe out too. I will be adjusting exactly as described in your video so it steers straight and is visually identical too
@ yes understood! I believe adjusting each side should help the steering wheel get straight but also help the wheels visually look more straight while parked
I did tie rod assembly replacement in my E150...Hopped in for test drive and steering wheel 90 degrees off, doh! Took me three attempts to get it really dialed in level while also aligned, but it's doable in the driveway with a little trial and error.
Yeah just look at which way your threads go and either shorten or lengthen the tie rod end of the desired direction to turn the wheel. I did this on my Supra and everything was the opposite way from the S3
In greece the mechanics are kind of stupid for not knowing this or they are probably trying to scam you... paid 6 times for wheel alighment at an authorized ford dealer for my fiesta to mess this up over and over again.. went to a local mechanic showed him your video and told him to do the exact same thing.. the mechanic tool about an hour of work and finally my fiesta is a straight arrow again.. Thank you does not even come close to how i want to express my gratitude for making this video
Wanted to say thank you! Like you and many others I had an alignment done after having my rack and pinion changed out in my 2012 Toyota Tundra. Like yours my steering wheel was slightly cocked right driving me nuts but not so much i felt like spending half a day at the dealership correcting it. Only difference between my truck and your Audi, much larger tie rods and they were kinda tough to get that nut loose. One small suggestion to others. I started with a half turn as opposed to a full turn. After test driving the steering wheel was cocked the other direction. Jacked the truck back up and reversed it a 1/4 turn and it’s now perfect. 1 full turn is quite a bit depending on the vehicle and how off the steering wheel is. May want to start with a 1/2 turn and go from there. Thanks again, great video!
Glad it worked! Yeah different cars will differ. On my Supra I did about a 1/4th turn to fix it. The Audi just happened to need a full turn. Easy fix tho for sure!
I needed 2 full turns on either side the first time. Then after tie rod replacement to pass MOT it was 5/6 of a turn. I did 1 full turn and it was a tiny bit off in the other direction, so sighed, jacked it up and took the wheels off and subtracted 1/6 of a turn.
I will be doing this asap mine is off the same as yours just a bit to the left but man it drives me nuts. Thought about taking it back to the alignment shop but i dont feel like waiting again to probably have the damn wheel pointing the other way after 😂
Yeah it's my OCD no doubt. Hate it too. Unfortunately, I caught a bump hauling ass around a corner yesterday and now my wheel is at almost 1 o'clock with the car headed straight. Doesn't pull or anything so I'll have to try this. THX.
The one on the Fiesta my mum gave me is off more than that. Also I thought you could just unscrew the wheel and move it lol. Either that or it sat on some spline to prevent slippage and I could remove it and move it a couple of teeth and put it back on.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Yes it was 2 complete turns of each tie rod on the front! It was a bugger to undo one of them though when had one replaced at the garage it had some nice silvered grease on it. Usually when I get it back from the garage it's about a quarter of a turn off. I could sense it being off down to 1/12 turn so am pretty picky but got it just right now.
Omg, three dealership visits with my new car with that exact issue and they didn’t know this. Holy s, May cancel next appointment and just go to an alignment center and see if they will.
hello very good video my steering wheel is a few degrees to the right, the service guys couldn't get the steering wheel straight. I'm going to try your version but I want to be sure I understand correctly. so you have to go to both the right and left wheels, and as you turn the right one way, you turn the other way on the left side for example. did I understand correctly? thanks sorry english i am from romania europe
If your steering wheel is angled to the right. You need to adjust the tie rod ends to pull the wheels both to the right. So one side you need to lengthen the tie rod and the other side you need to shorten it
I had my car aligned recently and it was slightly off brought it back the guys said yeah it was a bit but its now fixed, it wasn't so im left with doing it myself, thanks for the explanation will try this soon, its driving me nuts have the steering slightly off in the motorway
It will depend on the threads. Look at the direction they go and determine if you need to expand the tie rod or make it smaller. One side will need to be expanded, the other side will need to be made smaller
I gotta try this I have the same problem. For the driver's side I need it to be going left so I turn it clockwise or anti clockwise. The passenger it clockwise.
And do you leave the steering wheel straight when you start ?? When you turn rotors manually, do the steering wheel turn too ? Or do you suppose to keep steering wheel straight during whole process ??

Got it sorted. I used the nut itself as a guide, one 6th of a nut turn on both sides got it right
Same here after every alignment it gets annoying, going to try this!! Thx
This will help a ton!
Toyota did my alignment on my 2020 Corolla and the purpose was to fix this issue and… well it came back the exact same. I went back in today and of course they can’t fit me back in until next Saturday but I’ll try this today and pray it works. 180km for daily driving like this is driving me insane
Dang. Yeah thats why I like doing as much myself. Easy fix tho!
Great video. People need to keep in mind that if the ball joint is on the front side of the spindle like my BMW is they need to reverse the lengthen/shorten concept.
I actually did this same video on my Supra and it was the opposite of this. So just need to see which direction turn will push or pull the tie rod end
I just want to thank you for this video. Even my car is a 2009 Nissan Altima, this video (that I watched several times!) was helpful as I managed to realign/straighten the steering wheel of my car myself. It took me a tiny bit of time and some trial and error. Proud of myself ! 😁🙌🏾
Awesome! Glad I could help!
hello
I have a question, did you walk on both sides?
How much did you turn on one side, did you turn on the other side?
For example, on the right side, did you turn 1 turn to the right and on the left side, 1 turn to the left?
Thanks
Straight to the point, love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you ! You explained everything perfectly bro 🙏🏼 Fixed my issue
Glad you liked it! Great fix for sure!
Thank you Bros 4 speed for your explanation. Note if the tie rod ends are infront of the centre axle, the adjustments are the opposite way round. Same principle.
Yeah all the same principle. I did this on my Supra ad they were opposite. But still same concept
Amazing! I have exact same thing happening on my 328i e90. Great stuff man, thanks for the time.
Hopefully it fixes it easy!
Did this work for u I got the same car e90 328i
Thank God for this. Just got an alignment yesterday and I'm losing my mind about the wheel being slightly off-center.
This should help! It seems like it's hit or miss if a shop gets your wheel perfect or not
A big appreciation mate, really helped me a lot with saving a load of money
Glad to help!
Nice video!!!! have the same problem exactly as yours. I must try this soon!
Hopefully it works! I did this on my Supra too and it solved the issue!
Thanks so much amazing så “tired” of that off center steering ever since i changed tires
Yeah it drives me crazy! Glad you liked it!
Many mechanics are clueless when i explained how it has to be done. Strange, such a easy thing and hardly anyone knows
Yeah unfortunate lots of mechanics aren't actually good at what they do and don't know much. When you find a shop that knows how to do things properly, thats rare! That's why I just things myself
@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks for your efforts bro
Yes it worked on xc40 , after 3 alignments back to back the wheel was either like yours or on the oter side.
I had to do 3 turns clockwise for right and anticlockwise to left(driver) and voilà
Tip, if the safety nut is not comming off , heat it ..
Glad you got it done!

Great video! My ocd was killing me and now my wheel is straight!
Nice! Glad to help!
Every time I've had an alignment they did use that. But that doesn't guarantee the wheel is straight. So good to know how to correct it!
Thank you! Excellent video! My steering wheel is a little over to the left.
Glad it helped!
That tape deal was cool, thanks.
Yeah easy way to know what you're doing on this! Glad you liked it
Yeah my 23 Camry Le does that I’m going straight and the steering wheel is a lot to the left , they said alignment was done fine, but they probably didn’t think about that rod! Thank you next time I’ll let them know
Yeah if the alignment is good, then this will dial it in!
@@BrosFOURRSpeed awesome thank you I’ll let them know to check it at my next oil change
What's crazy is I took my car back to the shop after they aligned it bc of this issue and they tried to tell me I had to fix my rack and pinion plus the steering bushing for $2700...lack of integrity these days are eye opening
So this diy trick fix the issue sir?
@@ArczAngel truthfully, still haven't come around to it bc I don't have a lift. But one thing I know it's not the bushing or pinion.
You don’t need a lift 😂
@@brentonthompson8909 meant floor jack lol. Not sure why I said lift
Thank you so much my brother.. bless bless bless .. god bless you
You are very welcome! Glad I found this fix!
Thanks for this vid! Here in the UK they do a rubbish job too and it’s never straight after getting alignment done. I’ve got OCD and my steering wheel needs to be straight! I’m going to give it go 👍
Nice! Just make sure you keep track of the angle of turns on both sides to keep it even.
Glad to help!
Thanks! Short, quick video!
You're welcome!
This video was amazing! I finally understood this concept
Straightforward DIY tutorial with example. perfect
Glad you enjoyed it! Did this on our RS3 and Supra too!
Ive had 3 cars with a crooked wheel and it has driven me insane good to know theres a fix to this so ima try this rn on my audi
Yeah it drives me crazy too! Easy fix!
I’m having the same issue with my duramax! I’m gonna try this. Dropped the truck off to get an alignment done today, drove the truck, still had this issue.
Yeah as long as the actually alignment is good, and it's just your steering wheel being off. This should work well!
I've been trying to fix mine thinking it was the SAS steering angle sensor thanks 💯
Glad this was helpful for you!
ahah same here
Thank you for the very instructive video. My steering wheel "points to" 1 o´clock (slightly right), and I want thus adjust it counterclockwise to "noon".
Yeah follow these tips and you should be able to get it straight
quite literally just what happened to me today! Got aligned twice at the shop and still appears to have the steering wheel crooked to the left. Front right wheel is clearly visually more toe out too. I will be adjusting exactly as described in your video so it steers straight and is visually identical too
Oh cool! This should help. If your alignment is good, your wheels should be square. So this adjustment will dial in the steering wheel
@ yes understood! I believe adjusting each side should help the steering wheel get straight but also help the wheels visually look more straight while parked
Yeah it should do the trick!
Thank you brother . Straight to the point
Glad you enjoyed it! Great tip to know for sure
Mr. Tire and firestone couldn"t fix this issue. Thanks for the help!
Glad to help!
I did tie rod assembly replacement in my E150...Hopped in for test drive and steering wheel 90 degrees off, doh! Took me three attempts to get it really dialed in level while also aligned, but it's doable in the driveway with a little trial and error.
OH nice. Yeah not too bad of a job
You sir are a life saver lol. It bothers my OCD 😂😅
If the rod is ”in front ” of the wheel its the other way around, but thumbs up great explaining it worked !!🤭😁
Yeah just look at which way your threads go and either shorten or lengthen the tie rod end of the desired direction to turn the wheel. I did this on my Supra and everything was the opposite way from the S3
Great video !!
It isn't crooked lol it's off-center. Not clocked right.
Great video
lol same difference. Nice to be able to easily fix it!
How do service shops not know about this? Just mindblowing
No clue! A performance shop showed me this trick. Normal shops just go by the books I guess
Glad you liked the video! I learned this from a friend who runs a tuning shop. Very helpful tip for sure and glad you got it squared away!
Same crap with both my cars. Gonna get them on the lift and fix this shortly
Yeah it's so annoying!
I will be doing this asap mine is off the same as yours just a bit to the left but man it drives me nuts. Thought about taking it back to the alignment shop but i dont feel like waiting again to probably have the damn wheel pointing the other way after 😂
Yeah this will help! I'm the same way. Drove me crazy!
Yeah it's my OCD no doubt. Hate it too. Unfortunately, I caught a bump hauling ass around a corner yesterday and now my wheel is at almost 1 o'clock with the car headed straight. Doesn't pull or anything so I'll have to try this. THX.
Oh dang! You might want an alignment first tho. That bump could have got things out of wack
Nice, thanks. I'll do this to my 2006 Daihatsu Sirion.
Glad I could help!
The one on the Fiesta my mum gave me is off more than that. Also I thought you could just unscrew the wheel and move it lol. Either that or it sat on some spline to prevent slippage and I could remove it and move it a couple of teeth and put it back on.
Hopefully you can get it dialed in!
Thank you. I have that issue on my 2015 Hyundai Elantra.
Glad it helped!
You earn my sub bro thanks from philippines
Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for this video and really nice car too 👍🏻👍🏻
No problem 👍
My wheel is at the 4 o’clock position I can’t wait to try this tomorrow and see how it drives ! 🙏
I noticed its only out of alignment when I’m driving
Omg, three dealership visits with my new car with that exact issue and they didn’t know this. Holy s, May cancel next appointment and just go to an alignment center and see if they will.
Yeah the dealership is most of the time next to useless. Independent shops are much more knowledgeable
hello
very good video
my steering wheel is a few degrees to the right, the service guys couldn't get the steering wheel straight.
I'm going to try your version but I want to be sure I understand correctly.
so you have to go to both the right and left wheels, and as you turn the right one way, you turn the other way on the left side for example.
did I understand correctly?
thanks
sorry english
i am from romania europe
If your steering wheel is angled to the right. You need to adjust the tie rod ends to pull the wheels both to the right. So one side you need to lengthen the tie rod and the other side you need to shorten it
@@BrosFOURRSpeed thanks
Well done, thank you!
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Every time I go for an alignement my steering wheel is off. Like every time lol. I'm gonna try your method. thanks
Yup! At least this is an easy fix!
Same
I remember on my 2000 Jeep I just pulled off the steering wheel and moved up a few splines and that worked but I guess not every car is that simple
I had my car aligned recently and it was slightly off brought it back the guys said yeah it was a bit but its now fixed, it wasn't so im left with doing it myself, thanks for the explanation will try this soon, its driving me nuts have the steering slightly off in the motorway
Glad to help. Yeah it drives me crazy too!
Do you turn the wrench the same direction when adjusting the tie rod for both sides? Or do you have to do the opposite direction?
It will depend on the threads. Look at the direction they go and determine if you need to expand the tie rod or make it smaller. One side will need to be expanded, the other side will need to be made smaller
I appreciate this so much! I can totally see the chrisfix influence hahah
I learned this from my local tuning shop lol
They did this on my last Supra so when the problem popped up on the S3 I knew how to fix it
Great video buddy👍🇨🇦🇨🇱
Thanks 👍 Great tip to know!
Gonna try this on my peugeot 306, steering wheel is all the way to the left when driving straight👍
Oh nice! Should work well!
I gotta try this I have the same problem. For the driver's side I need it to be going left so I turn it clockwise or anti clockwise. The passenger it clockwise.
Make sure each side gets the opposite turn direction. One side will need to be shortened and the other will need to be lengthened.
@@BrosFOURRSpeed Thanks for the info
@@MIKEYSREVIEWS no problem!
Awesome 👏🏼. Can this be done on 2022 BMW X3? For some reason the steering wheel suddenly crooked
I would asumme so! Most cars all have tie rod ends that function the same and have the threaded part
It definitely could be done!
Just did my tie rod ends. My steering wheel is off at like 2/3 oclock. Im surprised its off so much considering i made sure it was the same as it was
Interesting. Are the new tires rods the same length? Might just need more adjustments.
And do you leave the steering wheel straight when you start ?? When you turn rotors manually, do the steering wheel turn too ? Or do you suppose to keep steering wheel straight during whole process ??
Just know which way to need to turn the tie rods and you don't need to worry about holding the wheel when doing the adjustment
