    Actually, Jeff, the turn signal switch connector on the 71-73 Mustangs will come out through the collar without depinning. It's a close fit, but it does fit. Up until 70, I believe, depinning was needed, but not for 71-73. Also, the upper column shroud with the key switch was changed in 1973. If you swap in one from a 71 or 72 column, it will wind up binding the turn signal switch. I found that out the hard way.

    Fantastic video! I’m the customer who sent that video of my steering column cover spinning I really wish I’d had your video when I was working on my steering column. Thank you so much for making this tutorial! As always, extremely well explained and the step by step explanations are pure gold. You rock!

    Thanks for the video! I had to drill out the ignition on mine, and pulled the clips out accidentally, so didn't know how they went back in. I searched everywhere and your video is the only place I could see how they were supposed to be. Cheers!

    Any idea where one could source that nylon thrust washer that sit between the upper and lower flanges? Without it it is metal on metal. thank you.

    Doing a re-view. He's not kidding about some of those parts being hard to find. My 1976 Ranchero with tilt wheel went from slightly sloppy transmission selector lever to super sloppy and dead in the water. Traced to a broken collar behind the shift select quadrant. Bad news when my knowledgeable neighbor and I ran into trouble finding a replacement; tilt columns were uncommon then.

    I've had two Ford's that the shifting linkage inside the collapsible column wore out. Was told it can't be fixed because the columns are sealed like tin cans and you can't get inside.

      I'm not so sure that's true. You can use this video as a disassembly point to know what you need to look for but I know that the inner tube will come out

    I have a 1979 lincoln continental town car, I don't know what happened but I got home and my car didn't turn off, and my lock cylinder was loose, like it had no play to it. Is it the ignition switch or something else??? Thanks 😊

    Do you have or know of a video for a 1971 ford tilt column? It's in my 1971 Lincoln Mark III. I have had it apart a dozen times trying to get the ignition sleeve on so the lock cylinder won't bind! It's totally cleaned and re lubed. It's driving me crazy!

    16:02 what grease do you use for the rack and pinion steering lock mechanism?

    Hello sir. I really love your channel! I hope you could do a rebuild video for 1990 f150. I'm currently stuck where the transmission handle has so much slop that it doesn't feel like its engaging the shift links under the hood. I have a feeling that something might have broke in the inside of the column. Any ideas? Thank you!

    Aren't there some bearings that should be replaced to tighten up any slop in the column?

    This was really informative! Question. I may sound dumb but is this the same for a 76 Merc Maqruis since it's also Ford

      And how do I take out the ignition cylinder lock if I don't have a key? I've been told I can just use a flathead and a hammer.

      They're oddly quite a few differences post 1972 on these columns for change the wiring setup and 73 on the big Fords like the Torino and the Maquis. There may be things that cross over, though, so it can be a basic guide for you.

    Yay, '73 Mach 1. I messaged awhile back about mine having play, assuming it's the top column bearing. Haven't gotten around to tackling that yet. So, I've never seen a column bearing go bad, and I've had some old cars back in the day. I thought I would replace the turn signal assembly while in there. Now. Would it be easier to pull the column to get this done, or can I do it in the car. (Really don't want to pull it.) I've rebuilt engines in my day, but this column scares me. Can I replace the old bearing, if that is the problem, while the shaft is still in the column? Would you like to come to my house and do a video on this! LOL! Thanks!

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is the upper bearing, you should be able to replace it in the car along with a turn signal switch. But it's just not as much fun as it is on the bench lol.

      @@AutoRestoMod I understand. I'm 6'6", and at my age (66) it's almost impossible to get under the dash just to check fuses. (Oh, my interior and dash lights don't work either) but we shall carry on and do the best we can!
