    From the creator of the Wolf Warrior comes the Kaabo Mantis. This fast dual motor electric scooter is more compact than the Wolf Warrior, and rivals the Zero 10X/Turbowheel Lightning and the Speedway V.

    Lovely video. I am almost 50. I got the 17.5 Ah version yesterday, this is my first scooter, it took some 20 minutes before I felt I am not going to fall off the thing. I am riding it at around 35 km/h at the moment still not at full blast, at that speed the scooter cruises nicely on the bike track. I am still feeling my way into it. I ordered Zero 10X 23.8 Ah version first before changing my mind to get Mantis. So far so good minus the little cut I got on one of my fingers.

    • @AlienRides

      Nice choice! These are great scooters for sure and I'm glad you're enjoying yours. Not everyone needs the full power, and that's totally fine. Take your time getting used to it. Also definitely worth drilling fast braking, rear brakes first, then front brakes. Good to have that muscle memory down when needed.

      @@jliang70 awesome to hear that. I'm looking at the mantis base mode too but wish the LG battery came instead of the chinese off brand although I hear its ok. I'm only joy riding so thinking not worth the extra cash. So hard to decide vs zero 10x. Now I see apollo came out w 24 month warranty. Their pro model is nice with LG battery but a little more cash...🤔

    • @jliang70
      @jliang70 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@benpitchford2987 I am from Australia, we don't have the Apollo scooters or 60V version of Zero 10X. The 52V version of Zero 10X used two older motor, many reviews suggested it is less efficient than the newer motors used in Mantis, so the based Mantis was more powerful than the older Zero 10X with longer range. When I bought Mantis it was around $1270 in Australia while the Zero 10X (52V/ 24 AH) was $1625. So the decision was easy.

    Great videos, I just wish more "reviewers" did actual reviews, and less FPV rides. As cool as they are, it does not help me decided which scooter to buy.
    Also, adding music over your ride videos is a great way to hide any creaks, squeaks, and noises which most of us would actually want to hear (to know if the creaking is too obnoxious for us), but I understand the wind challenges.

The "pro model" at $2099 is breaking into the Zero 10 x, speedway 5, inokim ox, and dualtron spider territory though.... Seems like they have cheaper batteries (Mantis has LG), mech brakes (Mantis has Hydraulic), and weigh more. My understanding from FluidFreeRide is that the new Pro version will also have stiffer hydraulic sus that can support riders up to 300lb. What are the SW5, TWL, etc. advantages? Even throw in the Spider. It's lighter, but more $$ and less power. thx, cheers

      Yeah, great questions - I wish I had all of the scooters in one place so we could go on more than just manufacturer specs. I do think that the mantis pro model ships with an excellent set of features. The only question I’d have is about weight tolerance, I’m just not sure that the mantis can support 300lbs like you said. At some point would love something that could go the full 24 miles RT distance that's as fun as one of these. I still do have questions about reliability + safety + support for some of these higher speed boutique scooters as well. I think they are higher risk in those 3 categories right now for an outsider. Not saying people don't have great experiences with them, there's just less data and more uncertainty and a high price tag in which to place the bet. The thing dying on me half way to work after the 90 day warranty just seems too likely for me given past experience.

    Any issues with SFPD while riding these type of these "intermediate" performance scooters in SF? The video's footage showed a lot of flat surface riding which is not very typical commute in the city. It would be nice to see how these "intermediate" performance scooters do on the hilly streets of San Francisco, and even a trip up to Twin Peaks.
    Being a San Francisco based channel, you guys may consider doing more riding videos on these typical commutes we San Franciscans do daily. These type of commute includes taking these 60+ lbs beasts on Muni or BART when we typically don't ride at night or in the rain. Perhaps you might hold a "focus" group to get more ideas on what a typical SF wants if they are interested in these electric scooters. It sure beats riding Uber/Lyft and have to share rides and deal with rude "newbie" SF transplants, and tourists .... In addition, I would like to hear perspectives from law-enforcement, other first-responders, Uber/Lyft drivers and (automobile) commuters who share the road with us. In SF, we believe that we are stronger together!
    My pre-COVID daily commute is from the Outer Sunset to the Mission. It's a typical 45 minutes MUNI ride that would be less on these eScooter. BTW, the "weekend" fun ride videos on the channel are great! Keep up the good work!

      Thanks for stopping by and the requests! Lots to unpack there, but I'll try to respond to some points.
      So far I've been lucky to not have any negative run-ins with the police on a PEV, a few of them have been super interested and asked me lots of questions about them. I don't take muni or bart myself, but I have seen many folks ride bart with power scooters.
      Good points about the hill climb test, pretty much any power will rocket up most hills in San Francisco, including twin peaks. I've done some FPV rides up these hills in other videos, but it would be good if we did more tests in the review videos.
      Scooters and PEVs are way faster than Muni/public transport and way cleaner. My hope is that these catch on a lot post covid as a safer way to travel.

      Ahmed Elkharashi that’s fair, that makes total sense. Maybe this type of spring suspension on the mantis or 10X could be for you then.
      Reading this made me cherish the days of the Dualtron X, it had the smoothest suspension of any scooter I’ve ever ridden, like riding a cloud. It might be too big of a machine to commute on but man is it fun. Definitely worth a test ride some time if you can find one.

    Is it kind of “torque-y”? Does it have a little pull if you hit it too hard?

    • @AlienRides
      @AlienRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does! Well it's between say a Xiaomi and a Dualtron. It's gentle, but firm and gets you up to speed quickly. I think they did a good job with the acceleration curve. If you're upgrading from a scooter that does not to 40MPH, I think you'll be pleased with the performance.

      Alien Rides Our city has these electric scooters that you can rent through Uber, and we tried them recently. I was looking into scooters prior to this, so these gave me an idea of the power, range, and speed I wanted. The Mantis Pro seems to have the same acceleration (possibly better), a little over twice the range, and the top speed is higher (even though i'd only do 15 mph). So it looks like this is the scooter for me.

    • @AlienRides
      @AlienRides  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Derrick SBJ it’s a good scooter for sure, and the performance should beat any rental. It will also pay for itself over renting scooters with time.

      Hard to say, both are really awesome scooters, but there's a few different models of the 10x. I'm personally a big fan of the 60 volt mantis, and the pro model if possible, which will give you the nice Minimotors display and hydraulic brakes.

    Using this scooter for short commutes is the way to go, as it makes it really fun. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxvyNuxpWiHTNypxG6nyqyf7ywc7Q16PDM Both the levels of speed it allows you to use are very fun, though 20mph can get pretty scary on bad roads. It makes a cool electric sound as it is accelerating. The battery life is also pretty impressive, as I can go anywhere around me within a ~10 mile radius and back home with a full charge. I expected the tires to feel somewhat like a toy, but it is legit, and has pretty good grip on surfaces. Braking on this scooter is also really fun, since you can even do a little drifting if you break hard. The wheels on the scooter are definitely very high quality, as they are wide and well sized. The entire scooter is pretty high quality too. I have fallen on it a couple times because I was being a little reckless, and the scooter still works perfectly fine, with some minor scratches on the sides. I found the brake lights to be very cool as well, since they flash when you brake.
