- Welcome back to DP TUBS for another Fiberglass Crack Repair video. This fiberglass bathtub had a crack that needed just a little foam support as I patched it back up using bondo glass. Don't forget to message me and follow me on instagram to see more of my work.

Single mom here ready to follow this video like i do cooking videos!!! Thank you!! And God bless you
Same..been on my own for 10 years...3 special needs children...I do everything literally...even had to do my entire roof on my own...electrical panel as well...I also work on my vehicle...I can do anything with God..& you tube!!
I'm in the process of doing the same thing.
Hi, does this apply for an old spa which is beginning to crack anywhere? Thanks
Thank you for this video. I had to patch a large crack that had been "patched" previously by a house cheap flipper and this was such an amazing step by step. Saved me.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm searching for a way to repair my tub and a friend recommended using bondo glass and now I feel confident that adding the spray foam underneath will make a big difference in the longevity of the repair.
Thanks for this. I watched this video probably 3x, along with some others, and my tub is as good as new now and very sturdy thanks to the foam between the tub and floor. I sprayed mine with Zinsser primer as you did, but finished with Rustoleum appliance white as my tub was very white. You can't even see the repair!
Anyone watching these videos, you can do this fix yourself. My biggest mistake was laying the Bondo on too thick, and using a palm sander w/out a vacuum attachment so there was a lot of dust. Other than that, it was a straightforward project and DIY saved me $400.
I have this same exact issue and I will follow your instruction to the letter. Thank you. A month ago I really did think I had to do a total remodel so I am so happy now. Thank you
Awesome! Let me know how it goes
Great job on the tutorial. I do bathtub repair as well. We don’t use paint from a can though. There is a product called prevail. It’s an aerosol can with a removable jar for your paint. This allows you to get an exact match by mixing your paint. I’m sure you know of it but just wanted to throw it out there for you. Get back with me if you’d like to bounce some ideas off each other.
Hey man, I’m in Canada and just getting started in the biz. Any info would be great that you could share with myself, I also wanted to ask where you get this “Prevail” product as I can’t find it online anywhere?!?!
Thanks again
Leo
✌🏼
It’s preval not prevail.
Useful video. I would like to see a video of you doing a fiberglass repair on the inside wall of a tub where you have to work on a vertical surface.
I have a few videos like that already! Check out the fiberglass repairs or fiberglass hole repairs videos of mine. Search “DP tubs fiberglass hole repair”
Great job! Ive seen videos of others using flex seal but I think i will use the bondo glass since it has the fibers in it. Thank you very much and have a blessed day😁😎✌️
Had few cracks on bathtub with 1 really large one, will try out the PU Foam fill the hollow space to see if it's able to sustain the weight first. Then maybe later only do something about cosmetic crack on top. Thanks for sharing this, really informative.
I've been trying to just use flex seal. This is amazing. Once I have to fix it again [been multiple bandaid fixes], I'll get the supplied and try. Thank you again!
that flex seal shit works great, i used it on mine too, but check it out sooner than later. after a few months the epoxy and flex patch i used started leaking and it almost rusted through an iron gas line thats under it in my floor . get a peek theres gotta be an access hole somewhere
Thanks for posting this video. This will keep me from having to replace my tub. 👍🏻
Hey there, I’ve seen you use Krylon tub and tile, rest-oleum, satin, like in this video, and the rust-oleum appliance sprays. Why do you keep changing it up and which is best? A video comparing the outcomes or pros and cons of each would be wonderful. Thanks so much for your videos!
Great idea!!! It’s usually due to color matching
Krylon ..because it’s an epoxy…tends to yellow over time….i have switched from using it to only at a minimum
All got to say is that this is great video
Thank god I found a video on this and it’s so well done. There’s about a 6-8” crack in my bathtub insert and don’t have the money or materials to replace it
Would love if you had some time info in the video as in how much time you had to wait between steps. Guessing there was some dry time between the foam, the bondo layers, paint layers etc. the video made it seem like you did one after the other.
@@FPSdoug888 understood! I generally mention it in other videos as well
I am on the process of buying a house and i noticed that there is a crack, i am not sure how long it has being cracked. You think that water could have gone through and created mold on wood?
Great Video. Will fibreglass also work on Acrylic bathtubs?
Yes!
Yo DP, gotta an acrylic hairline crack on new tub. Just need it to be watertight, are the tub repair kits any count?
That beat at the end was hard haha
i put my headset on for this comment yeah nice beat
Does this work with acrylic tubs as well or just fiberglass
That was a great tutorial thank you so much for your video..
Great video, straight to the point.
How would you approach a shower pan that has a textured surface around a small crack, not a smooth one?
What’s the cost for repairing small crack?
Great job! Im ready to do a couple of wholes in a shower.
Question, because I can't find a video on this on your channel so far...
I just discovered a lengthy crack in a low projecting shelf that is part of our fiberglass shower. Best guess, one of my young children has been sitting on it for some little kid spa luxury during shower time...the shelf absolutely has give when I gently push.
Is that repairable?
Should I fill it with foam?
I really dont care about how it looks or plan to use the shelf to hold anything (including butts!) From now on,
I just need it to not leak into the wall or under the tub!
Question: how long do you wait between each step? After the spray foam? After each layer of bondo glass?
Great demo. How do I find someone to fix my cracked tube?
Could you provide the waiting/drying times between the different material applications, please? This would be of great help to me. Thank you.
10-15 minutes in between coats or until dry ti sand
@@DPTubs Got it! Thank you so much!
@@DPTubshow long should we wait to use once it’s done?
Will this work for a crack next to the drain on the wall/curve of the tub?
I wonder why you wouldn't have made the initial hole slightly larger and forced Bondo under the crack instead of foam which I thought would be stronger. Then, why not spray the entire bottom of the tub the same color as the patch which would have made it look uniform? Otherwise.... great video. I feel more comfortable now patching the crack in my tub.
Because the foam expands pressing upward. Which is why he said he likes to see the foam coming up through the crack that means it’s filled the space beneath and can only go up
This is a nice tutorial. How long does it take for the bondo to dry between coats?
Not my video but I can get you an answer. We use a heat gun to dry the bondo. Which only takes a min. or two. Air drying is significantly longer up to 15-20 mins. at the least. It really depends on the thickness of your bondo layer. Source- I do bathtub repair for a paycheck.
How long after finished the repair can you use the shower ?
With that particular paint, an hour or 2. But I would not try washing it for at least a couple days.
Hi is the material you used same as the panelbeater used( the fibreglass)
I have a construction-special, one-piece shower/tub which has a few small specks of surface missing. Would you use all of this for that, or something else, prior to a reglaze?
No need for foam
Hi is the material you used same as the panelbeater used( the fibreglass) ?
I want to know what paint to be used for finishing?
Is it possible to patch a crack where the tub drain is?
What happens if someone steps on it while showering? How do you make it a better repair? We did the bondo repair to our old tub (crack was right in middle) and it would keeping cracking every time someone would accidently step on it. We got a new tub about 12 yrs ago and it now that one has a crack in it in the same spot.
Put some fiber mesh tape over the crack like you would a drywall patch then use Bondo glass / then Bondo to smoothen
I don't have a crack in the tub but a 1-inch, not a deep groove near my faucet on the wall of my tub I would like to fix myself. Can I use this same "Big gap filler" to fill in the groove, then have my whole tub resurfaced? Thanks
Big gap filler is for support underneath. If you want to fill a divot or a chip then use Bondo filler and then reglaze the tub
I have same crack in the floor
Can i use only the bondo glass or i need to buy bondo all purpose putty(which replaced by original filler)to put on that
I’m pretty sure my tub is plastic. It’s in a 94 modular house if I rough it up you think the glass will bond?
Do you recommend someone in the Woodlands, TX area?
Curious, is the time in the video from beginning of mixing the product until final application of the first coat "actual time" (approximately 1 minute 20 seconds)? Do you immediately pull the tape as soon as first application is done? TIA
No it’s not actual time.
Yes I pull the tape around the repair right after first application
Great video. Ive seen others use flex seal but I think ill use the bondo glass since it has the fibers in it. Thank you very much and have a blessed day😁
How long before one can use the tub as normal and why? Is it to let the paint finish curing or other reasons?
It looks bice! No fiber though?
What city are u out of
If there is quite a bit of flex what do you recommend?
You can try the spray foam, but if that won't work, hopefully you have access underneath and you will have to mix up & support with structolite or gypcrete or some other lightweight mortar.
Mine had a lot of flex and didnt take foam like his did, had to make lots of holes (not just two) all around the crack and kept spraying it in. It still came out awesome, ghat bondo glass is awesome stuff.
How long between sanding the Bondo layers?
How long after repair can you use the bathroom?
The final time you added bondo did you also add harder?
I cracked the back flange of my fiberglass shower pan while installing it. Since it will be under the tile, I'm not so worried about leaking, but I am worried about the crack spreading. Will Bondo glass prevent that?
Send me a picture
This is really helpful! I just did the Bondo Glass part of the repair. Going to paint next. Why do you use a primer before applying the Rost-Oleum?
Would you use the bondo glass on a cracked plastic mobile home tub?
I tried this with JB weld on my acrylic hot tub and thought I had it perfectly sealed until it popped open again as soon as the hot water hit it again.... ugh so back to the drawing board again.
Would this process work on a larger surface area…. Say a lil less than a square foot?
How long before you use the tube it say 3 day that a long time
How long does this small hole repair take sitting time
How long after the patch before you can use the tub?
48 hours to let the top coat dry and cure
How far do i drill? The pan is very thin an then its a dark woody material
Hi Boss where can I buy that shuff
When should you actually use fiberglass mat?
When the crack is thick and fluctuates. The mat should be used like you would use tape for a drywall seam or crack.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Gr8 video as usual
Thank you
Where are you located? Would you do a job in Texas?
@dptubs where can i find the music used in the video??
Epidemic sound
Can this be used on a textured tub?
Yes but the area you repair will be smooth
very nice thank you
Thaaaaaank you!!!!!
Anybody who does tub repair in Nashua NH area?
Bondo short strand is hard to find
Walmart, home depot, harbor freight, probably Amazon
Plastic tub repair?
You pulling out that aerosol can and painting that at the end just soured the whole video for me. I thought you were going to fix this tub right, but instead done a cheap crappy finish on it.
Actually definitely not crappy …I do this regularly
Describe a non crappy job for us. Include the various materials and techniques involved. Pros and cons will also be helpful. Lets hear from the soured commenter, not DP Tubs. Being budget minded myself, I've found this invaluable, but any alternative is invited. I'm game to various methods.
@@cyrus7210guess he he couldn’t come up with a better suggestion…
good job poop
my god that is poor ................ you give pros a bad name
What would be better? Can you include a link?
