    Great video.
We always dig down to the ground (dirt). Otherwise the snow tends to makes a slick ice bed.
Also, where we live there is an abundance of pine. Nothing better than a pine bow floor. Smells great, keeps things dry and clean. Also warm it up compared to a snow floor.

Hi George, thanks for watching and commenting, unfortunately digging down to the ground is not an option with 4+ feet of snow beneath me... the ridge of my tent would just be above snow level :) thanks so much for watching and commenting. Cheers. Paul.

4 feet is insane..... I just noticed you live in Hokkaido!
I travel to Hokkaido every year 1-3 times for the last 20+ years (for business). I'll be there again this MArch or April.
It is very similar to where I live (USA Minnesota). I would love to winter camp there sometime. How far are you from Tomakomai or Sapporo?

George T hey George, I live about 2 hours drive from Sapporo. Hokkaido is awesome, I love it. Winter can be a little long though, we usually get around 15-19 meters of accumulative snowfall each year. This year is looking like a big year. Cheers. Paul.

Another fine video. I really enjoy watching them. I hope you have Bear Spray 😉. Can’t wait for next video. Thank you much.

Vitória B thanks for watching, I had my spray with me but am not sure I threatened to spray anyone in the face with it :) I'll make a special effort on my next trip. Thanks for commenting as always. Cheers. Paul.

Just happened on your channel. A bit surprised you did not scrap the snow down to the ground before setting up the tent.
BUT! Love the percolator! Use one on our home woodstove all the time and take it on outings as well. In an age where folks want espresso, drip, or instants, nice to see another person who values a good hot perked mug of coffee! Looking forward to your next video.

Thanks so much for stopping by, watching and commenting. Unfortunately, with 250cm (yes, 2.5 meters) of snow below me, scrapping down to the ground is just not an option. We have had 16meters accumulative snowfall for the 2017/18 season. Thanks again for commenting, all the best, Paul.

Great content as usual. Too bad about the you tube policy. I never use my spark arrester Greetings from Ontario Canada

Clifford Wright Hi Clifford, thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment, much appreciated. Yep I think it's a bit of a backwards move by YT, but then again I could just be biased ;) I doubt I'll use the spark arrestor much anymore. Thanks again, all the best. Paul.

You don't need a spark arrestor in the snow. None of the sparks are going to catch anything on fire that is wet and snow covered.

William Bryant I don’t use it anymore, I followed Hoop’s (wintertrekker) advice and cut the mesh off the bottom and now just use the top shield to keep snow from falling down the pipe. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment. Take care. Paul.

Were you worried about getting holes in your tent without the spark arrestor? Did you get any?

    • @Followmeoutdoors
      @Followmeoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Kenton Lemon, I wasn’t really all that concerned as I do angle my chimney away from the tent a bit... but no I didn’t get any holes, also the Snowtrekker canvas has some degree of flame retardant in the fabric and as it’s still a new tent it’s still very resistant. I have now actually cut the mesh circle off of the bottom of the spark arrestor as suggested by Hoop from Wintertrekker - m.th-cam.com/users/Wintertrekker ... wintertrekking.com - , so now I still use it to stop rain etc getting down into the chimney and angle it away from the tent so that will also help to reduce the risk. Thanks so much for stopping by and watching and commenting. Take care and all the best. Paul.

I live in Montreal where snow is our second Nature and would love to solo Winter Camp anywhere here but sadly health issues prevent me from this but I love watching Trekkers like you having a blast doing this very thing. since Google owns youtube and it's owner is as greedy as Don the Con, I think we all know their Motives for cheating the little guy out of badly needed funds. please keep up this great work and eat well!!

norm lor Hi there, thanks so much for stopping by watching and commenting it really means a lot to me as I have a small channel and any support is welcomed. I haven’t posted for ages as I figure most people will just get bored of me posting the same old winter camping stuff year in year out... I plan to post a few more videos in the coming months but perhaps the format will change a little. Again thanks very much for your support. Paul.

Interesting commentary about the TH-cam policy...makes me wish I had monetized my channel way back!

Robert Thomson I'm surprised your channel doesn't have 10 times as many subscribers with the great content you have! You have done some pretty amazing stuff.

    • @RobertThomson

Cheers! Well, most of the travel content was posted way back in 2006-2008, before TH-cam became really big. Now I spend more time on blogging - much less time consuming than video editing!
