  • This masterclass covers features of the redesigned whitewater system in Houdini 17. It starts with an overview of the major changes to the system. The new workflow is then demonstrated by adding whitewater to several simple scenarios.

As shown on 21:18 that Omar created volume velocity for creating a vortex, so I was wondering that can't pop force be used instead of this?

Would somebody explain clumping(density control) to me? The front part of masterclass says it gives repulsive forces to particles between each other so that they would be prevented from clumping. But the last example of water splash he used it to create clumping effect. So the question is what is density control doing on earth? Create clumping or prevent clumping?

Great video, my only question is that you tweaked the incoming surface volume in order to get a nice leading edge. But when you convert the flip particles into surface polygons it also uses different filtering to get a nice polygonal surface. How would you get the whitewater surface volume to match the rendered polygonal flip surface after its been filtered? I've been struggling with my white water sim not matching the renderable surface of my flip sim. I keep running into the leading edge falling into the rendered mesh and just not lining up properly. Any ideas how to fix this?

The whitewater shelf tool won't let me select my fluid no matter where I am in the node setup/viewport. It always ends up saying "No fluid object selected for whitewater" and I can't select it in the viewport. I am trying to use it on a small simple river like stream I made. Is the tool limited to specific cases? Any help would be appreciated. I'm on Houdini 18

Late to answer I guess but may help others also. first don't select anything or node, click on whitewater shelf then go to your water sim dop and select your flipobject, then move the curson over viewport and press enter.

Omar applies the whitewater shelf tool at approx 28 min. Idk why I am narrating his vid.

I really don't get why he just used a sphere as a whitewater emitter for that giant whirlpool, that would have looked sick with curvature/vorticity generation
