Okay I have. 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 24v, I have replaced ecm, fass 165, new engine harness, and new injection pump! So my problem is when I unplug the vp44 & run a ground from the injection pump plug in to the battery and it will start right up! If I plug the injection pump back in it will not start!

Replaced the throttle body sensor and got it to crank it would be running good and then just go dead. It did this about 3 different times. Finally pulled it off got it cranked run like a top for about 9 miles and just fell on its face and died. Haven't been able to get it cranked since. Any info is appreciated.

Then in other case it dies very often. I have good power, good ground. CKP sensor tested and it is ok. I tested CAN L and CAN H terminals and the signals are ok. I think that the electronics itself is starting to failure
No. The injectors are full mechanical and the delivery to them is constant. If there is a problem, say low or no delivery on the injector, the fuel is returned to the tank.

If it starts and runs on breakout box, the VP is ok, but depending on what your diagnosing the breakout box doesn’t tell all. It wont diagnose driveability issues. It only will tell you if you have a no start condition, if the pump is the problem.
There isn’t. There is a position sensor in there though. IF you are referring to the “cold water on VP trick”, that frees up the timing advance piston in the bore which will allow the truck to start.
After a hard wired test my truck starts right up, so I'm looking up for a ECM issue.. so do your own research and look for pin 6 and 7 from vp44 and run a fuse wire straight to the battery and a negative and it's the same with this attachment.. easy
Does it have a VP44 engine in it? I am not aware of those codes but if you can get us descriptions of the codes, we can help. If its VP44, as always check lift pump pressure.
Could this tell is the ecm is burned to give the truck a dead pedal. I have replaced the vp44 and the lift pump I have cleaned the tank filled it up and I miss throttle at 1200-1700 rpm
Would it help me diagnose my 02 24v getting stuck at high rpm then getting dead pedal after going on the highway when its colder out? I t starts fine though. After I turn off and let sit for a minutes and start back up, the rpm settles back down to normal idle.

I have a question, should pin 5 (fuel shut off) be permanently powered to allow the engine to start and by pushing the stop button the power is interrupted causing the engine to stop or does it work the other way around i.e. for the engine to run no power is to be present and then my introducing power to pin 5 while the engine is running it is stopped ?? No, pin#5 should be close to 0V in order VP44 to run. When you want to shut it down then you send 12/24V to that pin#5. You see the harness connector, there are 4 pins wired, 6,7,5 and 4. 6 and 7 are supply voltage, 5 is for shutting the pump off and 4 is low idle select.
Not necessarily. More than likely it is a leak down situation. Park it with the nose of the truck uphill one night, downhill the next. This will tell you where your leak down is, one of the directions it should start better than the other.
Question: 2000 Ram 2500 2wd I have 8 volts going to the lift pump (pin 35&pin15)and 8 volts going to the vp44 power supply relay(pin 36). All wires have been ohmed out going from the connector to the pump and pump relay. All was good. I also checked voltage into ecm on pin 48 and 50 (both at battery voltage) as well as ground on pin 49(solid ground). No shorts, restrictions, or any other problem. If I hot wire the lift pump and power supply relay the truck runs. I also checked grounds at block and body both places at zero ohms to ecm ground on connector. What's the problem? Thanks in advance😀
A wire can ohm good, and not be able to carry the current needed because of corrosion and or breaks in the wiring. Load test that circuit. If it's good your ECM output voltage is low, meaning an internal malfunction, so long as voltage input is what it should be.

Have a question don't know if you can answer it in the comments but my 2000 5.9 Cummins 24-valve automatic always starts but takes about 10 seconds if it's sitting overnight or more than a couple hours if the front end is slightly uphill if it's warmed up and downhill starts immediately another problem is when I'm driving and it hits about somewhere around 30 miles an hour it starts lunging but if I give it gas and that corrects it but then I'm going 40 miles in a 30-mile Zone or 45 does the same thing around 45 to 50 and actually does this when it's shifting second and third or third 2/4 th it's when the RPMs go there lowest it l u g s so it's really hard to drive around the city because all of the speed limits are in that area lot of times I just keep the overdrive off but still does it between second and third if I'm just tooling around the city do you have any suggestions thanks I'll also try your website to or maybe some of your other patrons might have some ideas
Leakdown. A couple of tests you can do. Park the truck uphill or downhill and see which one makes a difference, that is usually the tale tell sign of a leakdown.

Thank you very much. Could be, check you fuel system relay first before condemning the ECM. Are you getting signal at the wiring harness?

Yes, but you will need to check incoming voltage to the pump to make sure its 24V.

That’s ok and yes it will be a pre filter test. You can move that to the pump side by just swapping

All Cummins make that squeak when shut off..

I think you can ground the ground portion of that original drop to the LP and it will make the code go away?
Sorry if I didn't get this straight - but if the engine starts and runs with the breakout box the pump is okay? Or the pump is not okay?
If it starts and runs on breakout box, the VP is ok, but depending on what your diagnosing the breakout box doesn’t tell all. It wont diagnose driveability issues. It only will tell you if you have a no start condition, if the pump is the problem.

Good observation. The breakout box controls timing once it activated, what you hear is the difference in timing.

You will want to check your lift pump pressure, and scan the truck for codes.
Can it be used as a emergency by pass for getting you to a repair shop ?
It will only idle, it will not allow you to get to highway speed.

We don’t want to see any less than 5 psi at wide open throttle on a VP truck, traditionally they run at 10-15 psi.

What if the truck won't stay running, just starts and cuts off immediately. Reading 19 lbs of pressure to the vp44.
The breakout box will identify if the pump or the ECM is causing that.

No, all this box does is get the truck started independent of the ECM.
ALL fuel gauges fail?
On the 98-02 trucks, I wouldn’t ever bet AGAINST it.
