well it ended up not being the ecu, but by watching the whole video it did lead me to the problem which was the driver side ground cable, which i didnt even think to check so thank you!
thanks for the video enjoy watching them and they helped me out several times... will be installing ecm by the end of the week hopefully that fixes the issue to my truck
@@Blksgrv thanks for the reply. I am having issues as well intermittently for a few years until it got worse recently. My vp44 failed a few days after I posted my comment to you 😫
Such a fun time I just finished tearing out an fixing my wiring harnesses outside in a 100° weather. Usually it's negative -20 or so when I get into issues haha. I'm getting low voltage codes at a few sensors and once in awhile wait to start light and the other lights take 5-10 seconds to pop on when I turn the key. I have absolutely zero issues with drivability an performance just a engine warn light popping on an off whenever it feels like while driving. Probably will replace ecm before it decides to stop working at the worst possible time which is my luck. Good video!
If you unbolt the aluminum air plenum and the 2 bolts holding the fuel filter on it you can swing the fuel filter out to the side and get a bit more hand room to do it. Just swapped one out of my 98.5. Much love from Raeford NC.
Great video identical issue happened to mine (99 Dodge Cummins 2nd gen) , for several years I had to wait for the wait to start light to go off before the Fass pump would prime to be able to start the truck. Fast forward years later 3 months ago truck would randomly shut off, miss sometimes start other times not got the code 1694 no bus communication between ECM & PCM so after a new (rebuilt) ECM problem solved and also my oil pressure gauge started working again hasn’t worked in 10 years…
That is great thank you for saying that I have rough idle randomly and weird wait to start light and erratic lift pump and oil pressure either says 0-60 psi at all times I’m gunna go pick up a used ecm Friday and see how she goes
In the building with big 👍👍👍 and new subscriber to the channel my friend. I got some Gremlins inside My Hood 2 brother. Hopefully it's not my computer. Just changed the alternator and a new battery and spark plugs. I'm still having issues with it. Nice job 👍👍👍

Have you had any problems since redoing grounds and new ECM? Got mine rebuild cause of dead petal issue worked for a week n half and started having dead petal issues again. So I sent it back for warranty rebuild before I go on replacing other items.
It has run perfect since the ECM swap. If you are able to rule out your ECM as the issue, the APPS could also be a potential cause...if you haven't already replaced it.
@@jacktrickel5798 I was having issues with my 2001 cummins cutting out. Acted like the typical dead pedal. Replaced the tps, batteries, and a few other things to no avail. I was about to give up and take it to a mechanic when I checked the ground wire that runs from the wire loom next to the alternator and runs up between the battery and the air intake. Its a black wire with a orange line on it. It wasn’t fully clipped together. Solved all my issues. Apparently its the ground for the ecm. Might check that connection.
No, it's plug and play...no flash required. Some people say the year and ECM code has to be the same, but I'm not sure that's true. Mine was a different ECM code and it works great.
@@coltonjvda8031 I've heard that a manual truck will run with either one, but I have not confirmed that myself. You may be able to find info on some of the online cummins forums.
Get rid of that chrome stick on rocker pannel stuff! And them chrome fender trim! Your just asking for rust to set it! Its a great place for moisture and dirt to get behind and set. These trucks don’t need any help rusting! Looks like you have a clean looking truck dont speed up the rust! I see it all the time that chrome stick on crap that was popular in the 90’s-2000’s, the rust will get in right behind there, and rot the doors, and rockers and cab corners faster. I got a super clean ‘02 24v HO 6 speed thats mint mint inside and out low low milage at only 90k. Ive done all the grounds, added extra geounds feom every thing with 00 oxygen free copper amp/ welding cable, extra positives from batt to batt, batts to alternator, and everything in between. Cant ever have to many grounds feom frame to eng, eng to body, body to frame.

What was you symptoms??? Did you have a dead pedal??? I've changed my APPS 5 tomes and still getting a dead pedle. Any thoughts on that.
