I tested the space shuttle with a test light on the starter for the rockets, found a bad fuse and then jumped in and went to mars. It’s a great tool no doubt. Thank you.
I use test lights all the time. Yes voltmeters have their place, but nothing compares to using a test light to actually test whether the circuit can actually carry a load. You can measure proper voltage on a wire, but as soon as you put a load through the circuit, it can disappear if you have a bad wire. I used headlight bulbs a lot of times. I have several set up for different amps.
What if you're only getting 10 volts on a test light? Partial/ low voltage is completely un-diagnosable with a test light. How is more information bad?
Wade, I have tested everything exactly as said in video including battery voltage on this 99' I've got in the shop and it turns over great but still wont start. Do the VP44 models "hummm" like the common rails do as you stated as a good lift pump test in a previous video I watched. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for the detailed videos and advice!
No humming, but with the truck you are working on, if it’s a 99 and wont start but has good LP pressure and voltage to the pump, check to see if you have any crank signal (tach). A bad crank position sensor will keep the 98-200 trucks from starting.
Hi Wade, most helpful, hard start warm or hot. I guess I need to get a test light. Did you make a video on checking for ground, 2000 VP44 truck, thanks.
Have one that will start but sounds like its only running on 2-3 cylinders and has no throttle pedal. Everything i see online says thats a guaranteed bad vp44. Could wiring or 12v to the vp44 cause this as well or is that guaranteed bad vp44 right?
will you swap a common rail fuel system to a vp44 motor with pop off injectors.make it cp3 common rail system with electric injectors.modify the injectors or make a hybrid set-up.use a gen 2 24 valve engine.
This gets brought up a lot but I don’t see any value to it. IF you want common rail easier and cheaper to stay common rail. Using mechanical injectors cant happen, you have to have computer controlled timing.
What could cause the fuel psi to fluctuate from 16 down to 6 while on the throttle at various % of throttle. Never goes below that but it was always steady between 12 and 15 prior. It has a new fuel filter since this started and I'd like to also note has raptor 150 on it.
@@thoroughbreddiesel I actually called the company that makes the raptor lift pump (I have the rp150) and they guy told me about the oe lift pump Deutsch connector being notorious for failing. I cleaned the contacts and she's bad to normal. Thanks for responding!
Hi getting battery voltage to power and ground. The truck wont start. I cracked the lines at the head and it spits fuel. I replaced the lift pump also just in case. What else would cause issues with fuel delivery? I checked with starting fluid as a quick check and the truck starts immediately.
If the truck will start on ether then you are either having a lift pump issue or the truck isnt cranking fast enough. Look to replace batteries and move forward.
If you’re getting power to the vp44, does that mean everything up to that point is working correctly? Like the ecm? I replaced the vp44 with a thoroughbred pump. I bled the lines, checked lift pump pressure and it reads 21 psi. Not firing up at all. Not sure what to do at this point. Don’t wanna throw more parts at it without a better idea
We will be able to help you diagnose better if you give us a call, 859 737 4966, but lets review this for others that are reading it. So you have power and ground to the VP, you have good LP pressure. The next thing to diagnose would be to see what codes are in the truck. Clear them and then see what comes back when you crank the next time. Is the truck cranking over at the proper speed? If it’s a 98-99 truck, are you seeing tach movement? If not, suspect the crank position sensor.
@@thoroughbreddiesel thanks for responding. Here’s an update. Finally got it to fire but it’s running rough and white smoking pretty bad. I tried to start it the next day and it wouldn’t fire. I want to make sure that I haven't crossed some up connecting to pump when I recently replaced pump and was in a big hurry and forgot to mark line on pump side,

It is a electronic over mechanical pump. Don’t know what your original failure was, but we will need to make sure that you have correct lift pump pressure to the pump first, then diagnose after we have verified that.
