Just in time for the summer sale to be over 😜. I got Soto a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I am halfway through the story, so I haven't been to Nayos yet. And I find myself getting lost on the maps in the best way. Yesterday I had planned on just spending an hour or so in SotO and then put the bulk of playtime towards working on my siege turtle, but before I knew it hours had passed and it was almost time to log of. The maps have a kinda dreamlike quality to them, where it's Tyria, but not really. And I don't know yet, if like that. But they are a joy to traverse with griffon and skyscale. Those to mount really play of each other amazingly well. So far I also really like the story. It's true that it throws a lot of new NPCs at you and they feel a bit superficial, but storywise I feel like that makes sense, since you don't really have time to get to know them with the kryptis threat looming. It looks like they are going to be recurring characters in the next expansions, so I hope that overtime we'll get to know them better. Although I can see how it might have felt different if you got SotO at release and you had multiple periods of downtime, where you should have gotten to know all those new people already. I also like, that we don't have a lot of the old NPCs this time around. It feels good to focus on reconnecting with Zojja. After I basically binged my way though almost all of the previous content it's a breath of fresh air. If you either love gw2 and want more of it, or you really love the flighting mounts, I would absolutely recommend you get SotO. If you are really into cohesive stroys, I think SotO is also a great place to start, while I don't think you should play the previous content out of order. I did that and there constantly were plot holes that really annoyed me, but since SotO is a completely new story arc, there aren't a lot you references to past events. I can't say if the other features are worth it, since I don't really care about that part.
very interesting to hear your experience going through it now instead of as it was being released! I was going to mention a couple things about that in the video but ended up cutting it for time, but I think it actually is a bit of a different experience. you can do many things going through it now that its all released that I couldnt do when I was going through it as it was being released, such as going through all the story without long gaps, being able to farm and craft obsidian armor more efficiently now that many guides and stuff are out, as well as the fact that it wasnt even fully craftable until half way through the expansion releases, and a bunch of smaller things like the vendor that was added in the wizards tower in the final SOTO patch that you can use to convert many soto currencies and other obscure currencies to gold with daily or weekly cooldowns etc. This is available straight away for people who just bought the expansion, but for me it was not available for like 9 months
@@ieatyoulol yeah, I would imagine that the experience now is quite diffrent from when it was live. From what I hear they really didn't pace the releases very well, which I find odd, since they do have quite a bit of experience with releases over time from all those living world seasons they have done. I am really intrested to see how they will preform with Janthir Wilds. I trust that they are able to learn from their mistakes, but we'll have to wait and see. I preorderd this one, so I'll be there from the beginning.
Yesterday I discovered the first potentially major downside of starting the SotO now. I have reached Nayos and of course the story had you do events and go explore as soon as you get there, which led me to the big meta event right away. Which spoils a lot of the later story. Now I don't mind spoilers, but people who do, will probably be disappointed if they have a similar experience.
for me I find this is the best way to answer that question on should you buy it? Do you own the other expansions and living world? if so yes you should buy it Are you buying this as your first expansion? Probably not 1: you dont get the revenant at all 2: you will also be missing some extremely useful masteries what should you buy over soto POF+HOT combo > LSW4 > LSW3 > EOD > SOTO > IBS > LSW2 PoF+HoT is a great deal 2 full blown expansions with amazing stories and content LSW4 peak gw2 story telling and meta LSW3 great casual farms and good story EOD good story and extremely useful masteries and fishing SOTO Lege armor and good casual farm IBS great farms, starts of strong and belly flops like a drunken uncle on Christmas LSW2 re uses alot of core tyria and doesnt bring a whole lot to the game id get this only to complete the story from start to finish
unfortunately not, the expanded weapon proficiencies is specifically a feature of SOTO, janthir wilds lets all classes use land spears though which is similar

Do you own the other expansions and living world?
if so yes you should buy it
Are you buying this as your first expansion?
Probably not
1: you dont get the revenant at all
2: you will also be missing some extremely useful masteries
what should you buy over soto
POF+HOT combo > LSW4 > LSW3 > EOD > SOTO > IBS > LSW2
PoF+HoT is a great deal 2 full blown expansions with amazing stories and content
LSW4 peak gw2 story telling and meta
LSW3 great casual farms and good story
EOD good story and extremely useful masteries and fishing
SOTO Lege armor and good casual farm
IBS great farms, starts of strong and belly flops like a drunken uncle on Christmas
LSW2 re uses alot of core tyria and doesnt bring a whole lot to the game id get this only to complete the story from start to finish
The xpack came out last year, the question now is should we buy the next one xD
If I skip SOTO and go straight for Janthir Wild will I be able to get the new weapon proficiencies?
unfortunately not, the expanded weapon proficiencies is specifically a feature of SOTO, janthir wilds lets all classes use land spears though which is similar
