    One thing you don't understand about the open world vs loading screens. GW2 servers have only been down for roughly 20 hrs over 12 years. Because of the map based system GW2 does not go offline to update the server. It can run 2 versions of the game at the same time. Opening maps and closing them as needed allowing for server size to rapidly adjust to the player base. This allows you to maintain a lagless connection even if the entire world is in a single area.

      I understand it a techincly choice, and I’m not saying it shouldn’t have been the case. But it sticks out especially sense it did open worlds right, I feel it’s esspeiclly a disservice to the way mounts work as I find they are the mouth fluid of any mounts in any game I’ve played

    Legendary gear is supposed to be the endgame goal to work towards as far as gear is concerned. Legendary gear has the same stats as ascended gear but it’s still a desirable goal to work towards for several reasons including aesthetics, major conveniences like changeable stats, runes and sigils can be infinitely removed or put back in, and you don’t need transmutation charges to change the appearance.

      in a game with _horizontal progression_ the player is the one setting the goals, deciding their destiny and what to work for. sure, in GW2 it is easier to keep yourself busy when you are into fashion, aesthetics and cosmetic features, in short: *blingbling* . if that doesn't rock your boat, as in BananaBlitz's case it seems, then maybe collecting titles in PvP could be an incentive to show your supreme mastery of the game over other players.
      gear certainly isn't and shouldn't be your primary driver and motivation to play the game lest you get excluded from all the fun parts as in other games with vertical progressions. instead in GW2, you can aim to constantly better yourself, master all the classes and their specialisations and test yourself against other players. unless your name is _Vallun_ (cf his YT channel) or someone like him, this goal alone can occupy you for many years. looking at the devs and expecting them to set goals for you like in an endless treadmill having you chase the latest gear iteration in order to meet the entrance criteria for some _end game content_ is something no player with self-respect should do. we should shun games which teach us this mindset

      @@embreis2257 This is the most accurate take of the whole mmorpg genre. We keep asking for an MMORPG we can immerse ourselves into, yet we keep chasing these gear threadmill games, that leave little time for us to do anything else in the game. How many people have quit mmorpgs because they simply burn out cause they were chasing that gear so they can do the "fun" content.
      GW2 you get to do the "fun" content quick, even if it's not the best idea to jump into fractals/strikes as a fresh 80.
      The fact that the games power gain comes from you getting better at the game is far more acceptable for me and many people. Like it mimmics a real life skill. You practice(aka play) and practice, and you get "stronger" because now you can dodge, you know when to use what ability, you have situational awarness.
      I Love CS, and I will always be a CS player first, but the reason why GW2 works for me so well is because of the fact that there is that "skill" element to power gain.
      In Lost Ark, you straight up can't do content without the correct gear since you just won't do the damage numbers needed no matter how good you are at the game. So whilst the game does have a skill ceiling, it's heavily limited by your playtime/wallet.
      GW2 comes close to my dream. An MMO where the ultimate power chase is to create a level 1 character with no gear and basic weapon and solo the hardest content in the game/a team of level 1s solo the hardest raid.

    lol celestial crap lolololol i get the misconception, but believe it or not, cele is actually super OP especially for stuff like open world, roam wvw, and it was so broken that anet had to remove cele stat stuff from pvp. if you add up the numbers, cele actually gives higher amount if stat compared to more specialized builds. a lot of classes can make good use of all the stats (like ele, guards etc) so cele is actually incredibly op. it also allows much better survivability because you get extra def, hp, and healing power as well. its when ppl switch to berserker gear or viper (for condi builds) that itll be harder to survive in open world.

    As an advise on what you can do when you feel lost :
    - Try and go to max mastery point (514 if I'm correct) : to go and get xp on matsery to train, and go and do achievments for the mastery points to unlock them . Its what I'm currently doing and so far, been quite great. I've been replaying the whole story to do the achievements and I find it quite fun
    -Hunt for legendary gear : they are basically gear with same power lvl as ascended, but that can change stats when u want, and share on all your caracters. Also they usualy have some special cosmetic effect, so its always nice. They are very long term project though, and you clearly shouldn't rush it

      In addition to that: Use your achievement panel to pick a few goals to track all the time. This not only applies to the legendary collections, but also for all other long term goals, hidden side stories and rewards. Although you might already made use of that given your progress. But there might be others reading this dealing with the same problem and not yet using it.

    The game did not get old, it matured. Biggest plus of horizontal progression is that you can take a break from it and come back whenever and you will have to do little or nothing at all to catch up. There are people that will like this and others prefer a constant grind since it focuses where to go in a game. It really is up to you. In this games the achievements work like sort of your quest log. You can also focus on the story. Or you can do whatever you want since the game gives you xp and/gold/crafting materials for whatever activity you chose to do. This did not used to be the case for people playing PvP or World vs World, but that was rebalanced some time ago.
    You mentioned having technical issues launching the game and that seems weird to me, I can only present my experience and what I have heard from other players, but in general the game is super stable. Like in ten years I have only had to reinstall the game once due to technical issues. Oh, the game has no downtime. When an update hits you have some hours before needing to leave the game to update it. One of the advantages of the game maps being instances. The other advantage is that it uses megaservers, so all players from your region will be directed to an active map. Most of the time you will see people running around wherever you go unless you go into instanced story bits.
    One of the faults of the game developers is that they kept reinventing the wheel. So there is content that you might like and will not get more of it into the game. Dungeons and raids for example, underwater combat, stuff like that. What is there is a good basis that could be improved, but it will not come to pass under that name or system. If you are lucky, every now and then you will have a week with a spotlight on that activity you like. But that's it.
    I find Guildwars 2 to be a great companion game. You can play other stuff and fall back to GW2 whenever you are in between other things. It being a buy to play game helps a lot in that sense. But it's good enough to be your main game too.
    Those who play the game wil find that it is definitely not for everybody, but it welcomes everybody that wants to give it a try.
    I don't agree with everything you say in the video, but I find your opinion fair.

    So I would say, as some one who played this game in college with so much free time, to now being some one with a full time job and an active social life with tons of hobbies and career goals, Soto and the wizards vault has given me more than enough content to do with feeling like I still don't have enough time. Also the story of Soto is probably some of the best writing gw2 has had in a long time. I just hope they don't rush too hard on the quality of the content and keep up the quantity cause this expansion feels great so far, we shall see what the quarterly releases give us.

    Agree in most of it, except 3 things:
    1) Celestial stats are amazing, strongest gear choice for most of builds o¡in OW PvE and in a good amount of WvW builds also.
    2) Conquest is the main and best PvP mode, Stronghold the worst. Playing alonme and in a conformed team are entirely different experiences; you should try the later over voip if you really like the game mode.
    3) You goal as a player should be A) having fun and B) get your character(s) in fully legendary gear. Since leg gear is shared in the legendary wardrobe across all your characters and build templates once you unlock a legendary item it becomes a superb piece of conveneince, since allows the player to reset the stats, the skins, the sigils/runes/infussions as many times as they want at 0 cost, requiring only to be out of combat. The QoL legendary gear provides is INMENSE, once you have a few you can't go back and getting full legendary becomes a main goal.

    • @itsnanablitz
      @itsnanablitz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know that numerical celi is strong, I just find it boring and unfocused, but I also put all my gear into focus one stat, usally condi or precision. • @xecor4450
      @xecor4450 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@itsnanablitzit is not strong just numerically. It is one of the strongest stat practically in almost all classes in open world because gw2 doesnt treat classes as other games where your role is defined. Every class can heal self, give boons, do hybrid power and condi damage.
      If you focus on power you lose on boon duration and condi duration hence you cant buff yourself well hence you lose damage.
      There are like so many pure power or condi build that do lower dps than celestial cause they cant buff themselves and this is reality.
      Ofc in raid or other instanced content where you have roles defined you would want to focused gear.

    • @Buran01
      @Buran01 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@itsnanablitz Well, the thing is that numerically the gear with 4 stats (as viper or marauder) provide a +9.35% increase in stat points compared with 3 stat gear (as berserker or asassin, did the maths myself), but celestial provides a +74.38% stat increase compered with 3 stat gear, so as long as your build makes use of every stat (and there's plenty of builds of that kind) will have a massive advantage.
      I'm not saying 3 or 4 stats that won't work (example: WvW Willbender is stronger with Dragor or Maruder stats than with celestials, or Bladesworn with Asassin since that specs doesn't deliver condition damage and wastes points with cele), but with Firebrand, Mirage, Harbinger, Reaper, Eles, most Rev builds... Celestial is just stronger.

    Great video! If you want a good comparison on how the game has grown, I'd recommend the original glowing review video from Angry Joe - it was his #1 best game for 2012. I also liked the review from Zero Punctuation and Jocat's Character Creator Critique. I agree that the game could use a better task list in the game to help keep track of goals. I keep a small pad of paper on my computer desk for that purpose. As a suggestion to players new to level 80, there's the mastery system for expansion owners and diving into the Fractal 'dungeons', which is available to everyone. Higher level Fractals are great for getting gold and loot which makes other goals a lot easier to achieve. And, with so many different game modes and activities to do and try out, as Angry Joe said too there's a little something for everyone. Try something out, be up front that you are new to the content (as the playerbase is friendly as a whole), and see if you like it.
    I was hoping that when the water dragon came up that we'd get more underwater content (as I like it too), but that didn't happen. Still wondering if with the faster expansion release schedule that they'll make one of them underwater. Anet has improved their 3rd dimension indicators in SotO to help with handling spatial awareness, which I personally think is the problem that most players have with the underwater stuff, so there's stuff that they could apply to that content.
    There was something you pointed out that I think you didn't quite fully connect with a later point you made. You said the game is somewhat pay to win and pointed out the gems to gold conversion that's available, but later on you questioned why you would want to grind gold as an endgame activity. In the design of the cash shop, they soft capped what little pay to win is argued to exist! Anet has also addressed a lot of the cash shop criticisms they've gotten over the years - legendaries on trading post for gold (people arguing gold for power)? They didn't do that for the later generations of legendary weapons, in addition to the game as a whole being more skill based rather than gear based. Random mount skin licenses? Even after designing them in the first place with a limited list and protection against getting repeats (so you could only get so many before you'd wind up with all of them), they did add the selectable license to the shop. Black Lion loot chests have a well known key farming method that can be done for free (if you don't mind dedicating a character slot to it), which is different than just raising up the gold for the gems for it.

    What I like about gw2 is that it's a good game wheter you have plenty of time to grind or few free time to dedicate to it. Every kind of player can find their personal goal even tho it could be hard to understand what it is. Imo the goal should be having fun so it depends on what you personally have fun with.
    If it's fashion then you have plenty of monthly objectives considering events and black lion chests and shop constantly add pieces to the already vast in game achievement system (you just have to dig in your achi interface to find out cool stuff).
    If it's about trying out builds then legendary gear is a great objective (which also adds up to fashion).
    With soto they added the Vault which imo gives nice daily, weekly and seasonal objectives with skins, gear and gold and is a super useful goal for both fashion and gearing up objectives said above!
    I see you like the competitive side and playing with friends and I think you did yourself an injustice not digging more into wvw. Despite being a meme in the wvw community, devs are really moving towards to a new system based on guilds fight. In few words, you will be able to be in the same match of your designated guild and this will make it super easy to play with friends! While this feature has been promised for years, it's now in an advanced state and 2024 will be a decisive year. You and your friends can still farm some gold from pvp, pay 500 gems (or zero, if it's your first time transfering) and move to a low populated server and have plenty of fun together in wvw while waiting for guild alliance system.
    GvG is extremely fun and all the builds are really focused on doing their specific role, with dps dealers running on the same squishy stats played in pve.
    Open field roaming is more bunker-y but the real great thing is that your group can theorycraft their own playstyle and composition and come up with your own strategy.

    I love the new expansion. I’m not into the story at all in general , I don’t like it or follow it and the story in the new expansion is somehow not annoying at all and goes faster.
    I love GW2. I’m far from having perfect gear, I’m working on my ascended gear atm and on getting the new skyscale,but you know sometimes I log in and I want to do something different than my daily routine and what I love about GW2 is that there’s always an event going on, no matter where you are.
    Even when you’re leveling up, you’ll be making quests and all of a sudden a bunch of people shows up, like 50 people out of nowhere with their cool mounts and fashion and stuff and you go with them and you all fight a huge boss 🎉❤ How cool is this? So sometimes I just randomly teleport to a map and there’s something to do there and the best part you’ve never wasted your time,your account is always progressing.

    About horizontal progression for people who are not familiar with the game: you can work towards legendary gear, which are not more powerful than than the tier below and only slightly better (5% I believe) than the one before that.
    But legendary has two distinct things that makes them worthwhile: distinctive looks and convenience. And the looks are not only in aesthetics but also in VXF it adds to your attacks and interactions with the world. But even if with this you don’t care, there’s the other aspect.
    See, it is true that power level is the same. However, once you deck your ascended gear a certain way, it costs a lot to change it. A legendary you can swap its stats and sockets as much as you want outside of combat. Also they ara account, and not character, bound. A huuuuuuuge improvement over the tier below, even though you will not perform any better with them.

    Horizontal progression is the main thing that makes me 'quit' every now and then. Sometimes I specifically make a new character, just because of the verticality during leveling, armor being stronger, with better stats, new visuals to it, same with weapons. Once I reach 80, I feel stuck and glued in place in terms of progression, and at the same time it feels like I am placed on a different type of treadmill, which seems more collection oriented, rather than RPG-ish character development. I actually prefer vertical gear and spells progression, because it gives me the illusion of character growth. The system that GW2 utilizes seems stuck on a dead end in terms of strength gain at level 80 and everything shifts into mostly fashion and visuals, while my character remains the same, stats-wise, for years..

    Guild Wars 2 is quickly starting to replace FFXIV as my prime mmo. What's really selling me on GW2 is the fact that the armor and weapons I grind for in GW2 don't immediately become irrelevant whenever the next expac drops like they do in FFXIV. When I look at my gear in FFXIV, I feel disappointed because I know that all the work I put in is ultimately pointless as that armor set will inevitably be obsolete.
    In GW2, all of the legendary weapons and armor are STILL top of thr line.

    Honestly, it is the most casual friendly MMO out there and they understand that now. I think they understand that their target audience is aging and the new generation isn't getting into MMOs like that and guild wars is going to adapt to the fact that there are Target audience is aging. And I'd say my favorite thing about the game is you will most definitely find a play style that suits you. And you can follow the meta build. But it is more fun if You come up with your own bill that fits how you like to play. I play a mesmer and I've always made a bill that fits how I like to play. Only one time was I ever kicked from content and it was because someone saw me use a skill that wasn't on the meta bill that they thought I was playing. It was only one skilled different from the meadow build and it kicked me because I said I wasn't doing optimal DPS because of that one skill. When I did just fine in the raid no downing did all the mechanics correctly and it was the only time I ever had a negative experience in this game and the decade I've been playing most of the time. No one cares. As long as we can get the content done. No one cares. And my bills have always worked for me for me to feel like I am immortal being able to solo content people need help with most of the time. That's why I play the mismer. It allows it's skill set to adapt to my needs. And ever since the chronomancer has released, I have loved the idea of buffing myself to immortality and I currently play a power virtuoso who is selfish was balloons like I have high up time all the bones for me except for alacrity because the only way I can generate that is through the signet of inspiration. So sometimes I get it and most of time I don't have it unless someone else is giving it to me. But I up the duration on all these bones and I feel like my only real weakness is if I was in PvP anybody with bone rip or Boone convert will destroy me. But in PVE I am a goddess myself to high heaven. Able to maintain max stacks of vulnerability and might with infinite fury and swiftness and quickness and I can generate pretty much stability and resilience on command. Oh with pretty much permanent upkeep on regeneration and protection and I can generate the aegis on command. The bill just does it for me😊

    Also: Celestial is arguably the best for Open World and pretty good in WvW. (Also because Guardian is broken as fuck, you can just play celestial Firebrand and clear literally every raid while carrying your team with stability and aegis. It is ridiculous.)

    15:06 I thought about it actually and I also noticed that WoW players often complain about how laggy the game is now. And I believe that is the reason. There is no loading screen meaning the maps are on one server, and it causes some issues: 1. when there are a lot of players logging in, even if they are on different maps, it feels laggy. 2. Bz doesn't have a mega server so far, so only the players within the servers/ link servers can see each other(unless you are in the same group? I heard you can teleport to the leader's map even if you are not in the same server), and it makes the world feels empty bc the population cap has been limited at the 1st place.
    GW2's loading screen means each map has its server so the capacity is bigger. Preach noticed it as well. He was amazed when there were 70-100 players doing the same meta event around him, and his setting didn't need to be lower, and he still feels the game was smooth, no issue.
    I started to think about the pros and cons of WoW maps and GW2 maps when Dragonflight was released. Bc I have to admit, I wish our griffon could fly across maps without interruption. How to connect the junctions of maps would be a big project, and how to deal with the map cap would be another difficulty.
    I heard Anet is working on a bigger cap of a map so the overflow map during meta can be reduced or removed. We might see more ppl around us doing the same bosses and no one would be left out due to disconnected or late arrival. But it would be even more difficult to achieve the seamless map junction.

    • @itsnanablitz
      @itsnanablitz  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh no I completely agree with the lag thing, though I’m sure it has a part in it I don’t think the seamless maps are the reason, I think most of it has to do with it being on a decade old engine combined with all the new stuff that’s been added, plus more polys

    Uploaded 13 hours ago and only 8 comments? Absurd!
    I just found this channel because I watch Mukluk, so it's probably no coincidence. I played tons of Gw2, and I agree with most of what you're saying.
    PvE, yes, great. But also, your advice on dropping Celestial is not the best. New players should keep Celestial until they've really learned the game. Also, certain builds (like Druid) work really well with Celestial. Also keep in mind that the devs build all content AROUND Exotic Celestial for this reason; even the toughest raids are made with Celestial in mind, because they expect most players to need a bit of everything to make it through.
    For PvP, my advice for new players is to play around on every class they can spend a character slot on, to understand how they work, and for them to realize that there WILL be a guy with 14k hours who will pop up in your lobby every 2-3 matches, and will make you eat dirt. Also abuse LoS and carry 1 CC, 1 Stun Break, and 1 movement option minimum.
    For Raids, IMHO they're innaccessible content for most players. Strikes fill the shoes of a raid, minus the adds. It's like a one-dip large boss battle, and that's what people want. I'd like to see raids, but I feel like that niche is covered by Fractals.
    Armor - yep, wonky on the meows. And I would argue that some of the best sets are made by the piece.
    The Cash Shop is the best way to handle financing for an MMO, IMHO. Gw2 does it right. Buying gold only solves tiny issues you may have, it doesn't buy you power in a way that's meaningful. Especially since 99% of players are in Exotic+ at level 80 and above.
    Also, the quality of life in this game has been amazing, and definitely better than WoW. Horizontal progress is shared among all your characters, and while horizontal progress doesn't feel as good as vertical, it can definitely fill the gap.
    Finding things to do is hard in Gw2, and you kinda need something to default to. It's hard to find long term goals, and you can't mindlessly grind dungeons or raids for gear because it's a no-brain decision. You have to actually know what you want, and that's why it's such a turn off for WoW players and the like.

    All people I spoke from WoW who switched to GW2 told me a whole new world opened up to them.
    Just, when you start playing GW2, forget everything you know and think you know about MMO's and start exploring. No boosters, just watch your character evolve and learn to play it.

      I kinda agree! I am a strong believer in subscription MMOs because I know I usually get my moneys worth in that month, but I don’t think one is objectively better then another, for me I generally play MMOs in bursts, usally a month or two straight and move on, then cycle between them, but for those who arnt me, who play maybe once a week, paying monthly would be a negative and the current model is better, all things considered I don’t think the game is poorly monetized, I think it’s pretty reasonable, even though yeah bag space and bank space being limited from the get go is kinda scummy

    • @khymaaren
      @khymaaren 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess it comes down to personal taste or playstyle. I, for one, have only bought the first bank tab and bag slot after years of playing, by converting ingame gold, even. And I didn't do it because I couldn't handle the space I had, but truly for convenience. Nowadays, my inventory only gets moderately flooded when I farm my home instance or identify gear by the stack.
      Also, I played ESO for about a 1000 hours. If you are serious about crafting, the inventory available to you without a sub is laughably inadequate and Zenimax knows it.
      That there is no sub fee involved is one of the main reasons why I'm still playing GW2. I have spent about 3 years worth of ESO sub over the past 11 years and I have all the "convenience" I need and played about 10000 hours. I don't think any other MMO will let me get away with this much playtime for this cheap, unless, I guess, I play all day, every day. I feel that's not what the majority of the GW2 playerbase is willing to, or indeed, can do.

      being a game with horizontal progression, the luxury of not having to deal with inventory problems, not having to constantly buy salvaging kits, switching gears and builds on the fly with build and equipment templates and legendary gears, TPing to important locations with gizmos without spending gold, VIP lounges, Instant merchants, banks and TP access anytime anywhere, infinite mining, harvesting logging tools all these QoL are endgame goals for most people.
      Most of these can be solved by gold. so people play the game, make gold and get these "convenience" items.
      Alternatively, Instead of pay for subscription, you have the option to buy gems with real money for which you can get some inventory slots. Slap some 20 slot(or more) bags, and you're good to go.

    No. This game is not noob friendly at all. First of all, you get a boost for buying. If you use the boost, you're fucked for life. You'll never get 250 hero points, unless you do WvW ( boring) or run trains ( conditional). Secondly, unlocking flying is the worst thing in any video game in history.
    So, to summarize, hero specialization and flying, 2 of the most fun things about GW 2 are locked behind boring chores.

    Nope, not worth it this 2024, outdated. Anet just want your money. If you will report a players whos being disrespectful or harass you, they don't do shit. But if its about something that hurts their income like sending gold to friends or other players then they banned you with no further explanation. Take my advice guys look for other games or regret.

    1:15 bullshit. Yes the game runs well, but if you're trying to do the most popular end game activity which is meta events, you need a very strong CPU or you'll be playing at horrible framerates.
