    You should always replace the wheel cylinders when doing the brake job.

    Good video. I would just add that you can thread a bolt through the drum to press it off.
    I like to disassemble and lube the adjuster.

      I agree that a bolt works under normal circumstances. I've not had much luck with it working on older cars that run through salt in the midwest winters.
      I've had to use heat with a puller many times due to excessive rust. Thanks for watching!

    The drums are threaded for a reason. Run a bolt down both sides, simultaneously, and the drum will press off.

      @UC28XiaT9lkOS2GS42K0Yg5Q Wow... I had the same problem! The old ones were leaking, put on new ones and almost instantly started leaking. Swapped again and all is good! Yea... I'd think you got a bum cylinder.

    Bad idea, never hammer, get a tool set made for drums from harbor freight, and loosen a gear with teeth, first pick up the lock that locks the teeth, lift it with a drum removing kit, also yes spring kit as well as needed for this job, and you’ll get them done fast DONT stress, just use those 2 tool sets and your hood probably takes 20 minutes of your time so an hour for both drums depending on how good or fast you are!

    It's driving the OCD in me crazy, that you didn't soak that with brake clean.

      I used to blast the whole area clean with brake clean. The shop I worked for liked to save customers money by conserving resources. In my experience it doesn't really benefit to clear the dust off unless it was saturated with brake fluid, oil or for a wheel cylinder change. In a week of driving it will look the same as before it was cleaned. In addition it saves 2-3 cans of brake clean, rags, gloves, mask and disposing of the nasty black dust.
      But I get the OCD part, thanks for watching!

    I pretty much did what you did in the video and the brake pedal still has a lot of travel/soft... I noticed that one of the wheel cylinders was leaking,(brand new)when i push on the breaks could that be the cause of the pedal traveling too far?

    • @angelcedeno26
      @angelcedeno26 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also when adjusting the adjuster, should it make clicking noise? I don't think the ones on this vehicle makes clicking noise even though they appear to be on right.

    • @northsidevideo1938
      @northsidevideo1938  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless the wheel cylinder is leaking alot it shouldn't affect pedal travel.
      Are the shoes adjusted up?
      Sometimes if the cylinder piston pops out during shoe installation, air can get in the line.

      @@northsidevideo1938 is it not a good idea to push brakes with the drum off? Will that expand the cylinder too much and cause a leak?

    • @northsidevideo1938
      @northsidevideo1938  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angelcedeno26 that will likely pop the piston out of the wheel cylinder.
      If that happens you'll have to bleed the brakes.

      Did you adjust the shoes with the self adjusters? If the shoes aren't adjusted out. The pedal will travel down further and the parking brake will be weak.
      I usually adjust them till you can hear the shoes drag slightly and you can spin the wheel one rotation.

      If the shoes aren't adjusted closely to the drum that will be the Issue.
