Great video, as always. Do you think gearing up with the factory motor woukd cause and heat issues? I would assume not since it didnt have a meltdown on 4s in the grass. Thanks for helping us all figure things out on these little cars!
Hard to know for sure. It probably depends on the terrain you're running in and what your expectations are. I'm honestly not sure you really need to gear up. 53 is plenty of speed for pretty much any use case with these little cars.
I do agree the adjustable after market motor mounts are a pain. It sure has great speed in stock form. Thanks for sharing this cool setup. Great job as always. 🫶
It really is. I think 2S is as much as anyone could need for bashing but being able to go over 50 miles an hour with one of these out of the box is crazy
This is a fun little car to run right out of the box. Honestly, I think I enjoy it more than the Traxxas Fiesta ST Rally VXL and the Slayer 4x4 Pro Nitro I have.
@DoRC For the price and what you get, its hard to beat this deal. I'm thinking about selling off my Slayer 4x4 Pro Nitro and buying it's big brother, the Typhon 6S. I bet that thing is a blast to run.
I want to thank you for your excellent content. I have recently snapped a front shock tower and transplanted the contents of the car into a whole new chassis. One of my rear shocks is not rebounding anymore, and I’m guessing it needs oil. What kind of oil do I need to get? I’m also noticing some loud gear noise, and I’m thinking I need to add some grease to the diff housings. What kind of grease goes in those?
Lack of oil will not cause the shock to not rebound. It's either going to be something binding in the shock or something binding in the suspension. I would recommend taking the shock off and checking both so you can honestly which one it is. As far as greasing the gears pretty much anything will be fine though if you're hearing a new loud noise grease probably isn't going to fix it. There's likely something wrong.
@@DoRCWell, I took the shock off, squeezed it a few times, and put it back on, seems to be working fine now. Not hearing any noise rolling it around. I’m wondering if the suspension thing may have been causing the noise all along. Gonna run it again and check it out.
nice! i'm sad I spent money on the brushed version when it came out now. would like to see a cost comparison video to upgrade the brushless version to equal the stock blx one. It looks perfect in stock form.

Yeah the increased tire size definitely didn't help though It got pretty warm on the speedruns too. That motor just isn't designed to handle that kind of power. I'm also skeptical of how long it would last just by how fast it's rotating on 4S. 4500 KV on 4S is a lot

Hey there, I like your video. Can you send me a TH-cam link on how the GPS works for doing the speed testing like you're doing in this video. I bought one but I haven't quite figured out how it works. Thanks!
I don't have one but if you have the GNSS GPS you just need to download the GNSS app connect to the GPS and wait for it to say it's got satellite signals. Then you can move the car back and forth to make sure you can see the speed changing at the bottom on your phone. Once you verified that just hit track and then start. Do your speed run bring it back then hit stop and read and it will give you the top speed.
Can you show a video of how the motor mount is placed In correct all I did with mine was take it apart and put it back together and it has a hobble gear grinding sound now and I’m not sure what I did wrong I put it all back the way it was supposed to go the screws including and it’s still grinding bad makes a horrible screeching sound as it’s taking off.
Try taking it back apart and put the motor into the center brace first then put it all back in. Sometimes it can go in crooked if you don't do it that way
@@XtrmTJ97 ah. Yeah I saw that. I'm not really too worried about it I've beaten on this platform a lot and this is the first time I broke a chassis. Great Video as usual. I think Arrma did a great job with the BLX versions of the Grom vehicles and priced them really well for what you get. @@DoRCI wish hobbywing hadn’t slowed down production on the max10 60a (the one that comes with LC racing pro kits). It is a really awesome waterproof mini basher ESC with the added benefit of a 7.4v bec. Not sensored, but same footprint as the 10bl60SD. 3.5mm bullets built in.
Just got my son and I a pair of these for a beach trip do you think I should get paddle tires? Also any tips for keeping them going and running nicely? I know the salt is going to be a big issue. I am brand new to this and know nothing about RC, differential, gearing, etc...
Paddle tires would probably be fine. As far as maintaining after the beach you're pretty much looking at a full strip down each time. The salt will get everywhere and it will cause things to rust and seize up.
Probably won't make another video about it just cuz not pray many people would want to watch it but I think other people have used the 1007 in other videos. You need to be careful as apparently the motor shaft can break with this particular setup
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've beaten on several of these pretty hard and this is the first time I've snapped the shock tower. I think it was just a really bad hit and I believe it may have been cracked previously.
I'm sure there's somebody in the world that could weld it but it would have to be done without overheating the magnets and it would have to be very straight and strong. Practically speaking it's probably not going to happen. Unfortunately they also don't offer replacement rotors so you're probably going to be buying a new motor.
So is it normal for the glue on the tires to come off after 2 days of play? Was on a 3s battery and was zooming up and down the street but 3 of the tires had to be reglued and I’m no pro at doing that.
It shouldn't be normal but it is fairly common. I'd recommend getting BSI 2000 tire glue as it's the best, make sure there's no debris between the tire and the wheel and then just glue them back up. If you're not experienced it probably won't be pretty but then again it doesn't have to be :-)
I tend to doubt it. There's not really much you could do to TLR tune this and given that what they include in this is just all of the parts they already had I suspect this will probably be the top of the line at least for a while
Seems to have solved itself. Sometimes these will leak and transport I think due to being on airplanes and then not leak in use. I've never had any of their other ones leak when I upgraded other Groms and this one seems to have stopped in use.
@emmanuelcheveau4891 as long as you understand it's limitations definitely. It's very easy to work on and pretty user-friendly. The main limitation is where you can run it. on smooth hard surfaces it's great and on reasonably smooth terrain like dirt and gravel it's not bad but it's not going to do well in grass or anything really rough.
I think this KV is fine for this motor in this car on 3S. Normally 3S motors are more in the 3000 to 3500 KV range but I'm sure they know what they're doing :-)
Great lil buggy...and, MUCH better than the original brushed version. Glad I didn't buy that one. Upgrading of would have cost was more. Btw, I'm guessing you weren't aware that Arrma makes a separate servo mount & ESC mount - Servo Mount/Radio Deck for Standalone ESC/Receiver: GROM. The part number is ARA320753.
Do you know what size are the screws that mount the arrma grom servo into the chassis? It should be an M2x10 screw right? Anyways great video, loved seeing it rip on 4s as I have a grom which I converted with the Hobbywing kit and it flies at 50 mph!
I didn't use the stock transmitter. You might be able to get one of the SLT3 receivers to work with the SLT2 transmitter but it's not something I've actually tried so I'm not certain
My BLX Typhon's drivetrain is louder than my brushed granite almost like the mesh is too tight. Do you have a brushed version to compare? Also the servo is alot slower on my BLX.
Mine is also a little bit more noisy. I think it's probably down to manufacturing tolerances though. As long as it rolls smoothly I wouldn't worry about it
@@DoRC dude I get it! I love your channel, the fact you take everything apart to inspect it so I don't have to is great! Do you but all your RCs or are they sent to you?
Yes it did. Generally in these types of tests if something fails I'll let you know and if I don't say anything about it it means it survived. I can't guarantee how long it will last but it did survive
At first I was like eh, this is nice but I like center diffs, I’ll try the mini maxx. But now the mini maxx is $269, + $84 for the center diff, and probably 30 a servo and who knows what aluminum. Maybe the typhon BLX isn’t that bad of an idea after all
If you already have the OT go for this. The mini Max will be a little bit smaller than the OT but pretty similar. This will give you a different experience.

Probably not. I tend to stay away from non waterproof ESCs if I can help it
@@DoRCI wish hobbywing hadn’t slowed down production on the max10 60a (the one that comes with LC racing pro kits). It is a really awesome waterproof mini basher ESC with the added benefit of a 7.4v bec. Not sensored, but same footprint as the 10bl60SD. 3.5mm bullets built in.
Quality content👌
Thanks!
How come no video of the 4S lipo battery installed?
Just didn't make the cut.
@DoRC it would of been beneficial to see how a 4S lipo fit in such a small area.
@@DoRC do you have a video or link to a complete tear down video and explanation as a guide?
@TW-AZ I don't but they are pretty straightforward to work on. This video shows most of the work you'd have to do to take one apart.
Nice video, the Typhon grom blx is fast.
Yeah 53 on the stock power system is pretty crazy.
Can you do this again with the 1007 or just show the size difference
Probably won't make another video about it just cuz not pray many people would want to watch it but I think other people have used the 1007 in other videos. You need to be careful as apparently the motor shaft can break with this particular setup
3:29 *Dogbone’s (not CVD’s) drive shafts
Dog bones in the rear CVDs in the front.
Can you program the old radio to the new esc like if you had the brush and you won't to upgrade to that motor and esc will the old radio will work
Unfortunately no. You would need an SLT compatible receiver
Woooo im early . I might want to do this too
I'd recommend the tires but I would probably not recommend the ESC. The stock one works really well
There is a GPM alloy front damper plate available. You think it'll protect your chasis?
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've beaten on several of these pretty hard and this is the first time I've snapped the shock tower. I think it was just a really bad hit and I believe it may have been cracked previously.
Shame there is no slipper clutch will be buying though
Agreed it would need one to be the best mini on the market
Fortunately at this size you probably don't need one
4s truggified 👏😝. Now that’s some good fun.
My favorite type!
I bought one because of this video! Thank you! What tires did you put on? I can see that they're proline? Can you give me the model number or name?
Look up the proline Badland 2.2. they're specifically made for this car. They make two different widths these are the wider ones
@ thank you so much for your speedy and specific reply!!
I put a 50c 3200 spectrum batt in mine.. change esc to ic3. 2200 fits in there better though..
Nice!
My friend random question??
I brake my shaft or rotor on my 1650kv motor u think I can welding that or how I can fix it
I'm sure there's somebody in the world that could weld it but it would have to be done without overheating the magnets and it would have to be very straight and strong. Practically speaking it's probably not going to happen. Unfortunately they also don't offer replacement rotors so you're probably going to be buying a new motor.
@DoRC yea sad for me,I order one already and thanks always for your help, God bless my friend
You should drop a link for the upgrades and also, what 3s battery do you recommend for that?
I don't really do links but you should be able to Google whatever you need. SMC makes some really awesome batteries. They're 2,400 fits well
Nice great video man! I wonder if with proline wheels, when the car hits the chassis, it doesn't reach the end with the shocks travel? Thanks
The chassis still hits first
@@DoRC Thanks!
If you're not experienced it probably won't be pretty but then again it doesn't have to be :-)
Nice. thanks for the help.
Perfectly Gromulent idea
:)
As soon as I get mine they will come out with a tuned by TLR version. That crap always happens to me.
I tend to doubt it. There's not really much you could do to TLR tune this and given that what they include in this is just all of the parts they already had I suspect this will probably be the top of the line at least for a while
So did they make a mistake with the diff gasket? Or are they just not sealed?
They don't come from the factory with a gasket. I personally haven't had one leak before this one but I guess technically they aren't sealed
Hi !! How did you solve the differential liquid leaking ??
Seems to have solved itself. Sometimes these will leak and transport I think due to being on airplanes and then not leak in use. I've never had any of their other ones leak when I upgraded other Groms and this one seems to have stopped in use.
@ Do you recommend this model for a newbie ??
@emmanuelcheveau4891 as long as you understand it's limitations definitely. It's very easy to work on and pretty user-friendly. The main limitation is where you can run it. on smooth hard surfaces it's great and on reasonably smooth terrain like dirt and gravel it's not bad but it's not going to do well in grass or anything really rough.
@ Do you have a better recommandation ?? Buggy style !! Around the same budget.
@@rateau-789 Hop on AliExpress and get a 3S Typhon.
What kv would you prefer if 4500kv is high stock?
I think this KV is fine for this motor in this car on 3S. Normally 3S motors are more in the 3000 to 3500 KV range but I'm sure they know what they're doing :-)
Yeaa, the blx grom is here! And maan, I loved the video so much!
Please make a video on the Mojave grom :-)
I have one pre-ordered but I probably won't get it for a while.
Yep. If you check my very first granite Grom video I have one of them in there. I just failed to buy one for this project so I 3D printed it instead
What are the proline tires you’re running?
They're the 2.2 trenchers specifically designed for these cars
Do you know what size are the screws that mount the arrma grom servo into the chassis? It should be an M2x10 screw right? Anyways great video, loved seeing it rip on 4s as I have a grom which I converted with the Hobbywing kit and it flies at 50 mph!
Do you mean the servo to the servo mount or the servo mount to the chassis?
@@DoRC The servo to servo mount screws which have a hex size of 1.5mm.
@iamgeek01 Yes I believe they are m2x10
I think 2S with the bigger tires would be just about perfect.
Agreed
So is it best to bash it on the 2S?
And just do to speed run on the 3S.
That would be my recommendation. You can obviously try to bash it on 3S but it's got plenty of jam on 2S so I don't think you'll find you need to.
Hey man what receiver did you use I’m trying to find a cheap receiver that will bind with my grom blx transmitter for a brushless upgrade to a jrx2?
I didn't use the stock transmitter. You might be able to get one of the SLT3 receivers to work with the SLT2 transmitter but it's not something I've actually tried so I'm not certain
Neighbors 4Runner is sweet lol
I'll let her know :-)
My BLX Typhon's drivetrain is louder than my brushed granite almost like the mesh is too tight. Do you have a brushed version to compare? Also the servo is alot slower on my BLX.
I would recommend running a pack to see if it loosens up and if not going in and seeing if you could shim the diffs at all :)
Mine is also a little bit more noisy. I think it's probably down to manufacturing tolerances though. As long as it rolls smoothly I wouldn't worry about it
Can you do a comparison to the ae 14B
Probably not something I'll be able to make a video of. I've never had a 14b but I have had a MT-14 and it was a pretty good car
Just saw the the big rock v3 for $210.00 with free shipping. No battery.
Where?
@DoRC Same site I gave you before, bro. It even says it's shipping from the USA, so 14 day delivery i think is what it says
@@jhrubicon1470 oh okay. Sorry I feel around a hundred comments a day so it's hard to remember who sent me what sometimes :-)
@@DoRC dude I get it! I love your channel, the fact you take everything apart to inspect it so I don't have to is great! Do you but all your RCs or are they sent to you?
@jhrubicon1470 most of the things on the channel I pay for myself. I do get some stuff for free but not that much
Did the motor survive 4s ?
Yes it did. Generally in these types of tests if something fails I'll let you know and if I don't say anything about it it means it survived. I can't guarantee how long it will last but it did survive
Ppdria compartir un enlace con todas las piezas para la nejora total gracias
I don't have a specific link for that but what's parts are you looking for in particular?
Ruedas servo ybrazo de servo y el brazo de bocida gracias@@DoRC
It looks just like the Legendary Sonic buggy !!
Not familiar with the reference
@DoRC
You never heard of legendary RC cars ??
@mary0224 ah laegendary. I wasn't aware of the Sonic buggy model
Hey can you bring out the maxxrt again it was so cool
I don't have it anymore. I ended up selling it to a friend
What size is the motor shaft?
2.3 mm same as the brushed
Why are they thread locking the diff screws?
Just the one that holds The output cup on
@@DoRC I see, thanks. Any recommendations for 3s batteries for the Typhon grom? No budget. For bashing
@magnusstone Yeah check out the SMC 2400. It fits well and is a great battery
At first I was like eh, this is nice but I like center diffs, I’ll try the mini maxx. But now the mini maxx is $269, + $84 for the center diff, and probably 30 a servo and who knows what aluminum. Maybe the typhon BLX isn’t that bad of an idea after all
Yeah if you want a center diff on the mini-max you're definitely going to be paying for it
Dying trying to choose between this and the mini maxx. I’m afaird the MM will be too big for me since I already have the Omni terminator.
If you already have the OT go for this. The mini Max will be a little bit smaller than the OT but pretty similar. This will give you a different experience.
@ really helpful advice. Thank you!
@@magnusstone You're welcome thanks for watching :-)
Is it possible to fix such damages?
What specifically are you referring to?
@@DoRC 12:26 Sorry, I don’t know what this part is called. 😅
holy shit 3S is quick 😂😂😂
I think the Mini B 2.0 is 30mph on 2s
Yeah on 2s it's as fast as you need it to be but on 3s it's ridiculous
Buenos días amigo me encantan tus vídeos y lo que haces podrías compartir el enlace de las ruedas y los cojinetes que les pones al coche para no confundirme al comprarlo un abrazo grande desde Madrid
They are the proline Badlands 2.2. they make two different kinds the wide ones and the more narrow ones. Which one you want just depends on your preference

how big is it compared to a 1/10 scale racing buggy
Quite a bit smaller than that.
