  • Hello everyone, it’s been a while. Although I’ve been asked for years to review camera straps, I’ve hesitated. The reason is because camera strap choice is very subjective. A strap that I love, someone might not love so much. However, I do have a lots of tips and tricks to share since I’ve been collecting straps for 25+ years. Camera Film Photo sent me their limited edition Cura silk strap and I thought this would be a good start for my strap review series. Again, straps are very subjective so please take this ‘review’ with a grain of salt. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments and I’ll try my best to answer. Below are all the links to the various straps I mention in the video. Thanks for watching and don’t forget to like if you want me to continue making more videos like this.

    Great video as always. It's always nice to help the industry, get the word out and support the smaller businesses that do good sh*t. I for one learned a lot. More content like this! Thanks!

      thanks Patric, I appreciate it. For sure, in the end, who cares if it's less of a review and more of a showcase of what's out there. Many of these brands are small, including some that are a 1 person business.

    I don’t really collect straps, but I like a nice strap on my Fuji. Turns out that I already have three of the straps you showcased! We obviously have similar tastes. Thank you for all your great videos.

      cool, which straps? I like the smaller niche brands because I like supporting smaller brands as well as being more unique...

      bigheadtaco, I shoot with an XT1 and wear my strap cross-body. I like 120cm length, which limits my choices. I have both of the Barton1972 leather braided straps you showed (open braid and rope braid versions) and the Artisanandartist rope strap. I also liked many of the other straps in your collection. You can tell that I’m budget-limited because I still shoot the XT1 (although I did buy 4 Fuji primes, the Fuji 55-200mm, and the Laowa 9mm), so I can’t invest in too many straps. I’m hoping to get the XT4 when it goes on sale in the future, and I’m also thinking about the Laowa 65mm macro (for macro and Astro due specifically to its APO design).

  • @macht4turbo

    I don't get why camera straps usually don't come with carabiners. I just resorted to making my own. One of the most important things in a strap for me is to be able to take it off the camera as quickly as possible.

    Great video thank you. Re the brass rings - i can understand why you use them on an older Leica but doesn’t the M7 and just about all Leicas after the M4 have steel lugs? So why use a brass ring on those?

  • @illyaswan
    @illyaswan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you mount these CURA straps on a Ricoh GR by replacing the rings with a slimmer kind of anchor?

    will cura straps be enough for a fuji xt4 ?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be fine, but that's the maximum size/weight that I would use these silk straps on. Personally I feel they work best on small film SLRs (FM2, OM1, X700), rangefinders, and digital cameras like the X100 series or any of the Olympus Pen cameras.

    • @swagonman
      @swagonman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I noticed that too. But never mind why Take does it. He’s inspired me. Now I’m thinking I might do it just to freak out my younger coworkers because they don’t even understand why anyone would wear one watch, especially if it isn’t smart.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@swagonman it's a pilot hack. Two watches gives you two time zones. This is before the existence of GMT watches. I use to fly a lot so wearing two watches made sense, plus you could wear two cool watches instead of just one.

    • @swagonman
      @swagonman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      bigheadtaco, yep, I’m definitely going to do it. Two analog watches. One on California time and one on whatever time zone any visiting guest is coming from. That way, I’ll know what time the guest feels like it is. At least this will be my explanation to my young coworkers. LOL!!!!!!! And I’m gonna tell them I learned this from a Japanese pilot. They’ll think I’m nuts, but it will be sooo worth it. Of course I have to wait for the lockdown to end.

    I have to say the Cure site sucks. I picked out a strap that was $72.50 and when I put it in my cart it was $133.00. I then tried to use their "task a question" and it doesn't work either.

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      when you see a strap there's at least 4 different styles and lengths. Wrist, wrist with ring, 110cm and 125cm. The first price you see is just the wrist. You have to pick the one you want and then the correct price shows up. Sorry you had a hard time with it
