For some it's just a strap, for others a customization that makes their camera stand out. Over the years I've bought many camera straps. Some of them I am still using, others not so much because they turned out not to be that great. On a regular basis I get asked about my camera straps, especially when I feature a Leica camera in one of my videos. Maybe now it's a great opportunity to show you which straps I own and give you some background information about them.
See you in the next one! :)

Great information. I have been struggling with straps recently. This helps a great deal on pros and cons on quite a few that I have been looking. Thank you.

This was very helpful! I was leaning toward a braided leather strap so it would slip as much, but never considered the squeaky sound. Leaning toward simple antique brown Leica strap…reviews say it slips around though. Going to adapt peak design clips to it.

    This is extremely helpful.
After all the trial and error, I settled with Harry Benz Urushi and a A&A leather strap.

This video is a great "who is who" of camera straps.
BTW : I just pre-ordered your new zine :-) I also have the "28" and I now look forward to some more Robin-made photography.

On my current dslr that I bought used from a friend it came with a more deluxe and more comfortable canon neck strap that is thicker and bigger than the one that comes as standard.
My previous strap was a r-strap, a solution I liked for a while until I got my current camera and realized that the more deluxe neck strap was a better solution.

I haven’t been able to beat the Leica branded leather strap (with neck pad). They sell for under $80USD at B&H.

That's interesting about your stance on wrist vs neck. I'm a wrist strap user but it's really there as protection in the event I loose grip of the camera. When you say that the neck strap is faster I assume you mean from a hanging position? I love the look of some neck straps but I want the freedom of quickly shooting high or low.
Anyhow, hey from Detroit and I'm digging all the content. Thx!

Yes, I was talking about the camera hanging. 👍

Nice info! I use only wrist straps. My wrist straps are wide cotton shoelaces. They are strong, feel nice and can absorb sweat. They cost €0.80 per pair :-)

Hard to beat that price and easily replaceable. 😁

I was in a dilemma whether to buy a wrist strap or neck strap, after your statement ı am closer to neck strap but now ı am in a new dilemma whether to buy a wide or thin strap, ı have both dslr and mirrorless cameras; ı want to use this strap for both(peak design) What do you offer?
    Thank you..

I have settled on Eric Kim's "Henri" shoulder camera strap. It is by far the best in comfort, use and looks great. I've tried many many straps and none have come close to the "Henri".

    • @therealsirrobin
      @therealsirrobin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I've heard about the Henri strap but since I haven't tried it I can't comment on it. Glad you're enjoying it though! 👏

Do you prefer straps with strap bumpers? I'm worried that the rings will scratch my M body

i use the peak design too... i tried some cool climbing rope straps, but it becomes uncomfy after a while with y canon f1....

@@therealsirrobin the great part of the PD system is that you can feed the non- metal nylon loops through the brass lugs on the older vintage Leicas to prevent wearing out the lugs. The metal ring attachments on most straps will wear these lugs out. The newer Leicas have stainless steel lugs, so this isn’t a problem.

I don't even touch those straps included in the box. They are billboards for free adverts. Except Leica straps, but even then, I still don't use them. Guess it's the cheapest form of customisation that exists for a camera that you love.
