Southern ITV Startup v2 (The Station That Serves The South) (Mock)

Southern ITV Startup (version 2) in the 'style' of the late 60s. Theme: 'Southern Rhapsody' (Richard Addinsell) Although originally in black & white, Southern ITV had a movie of some of the delights of the region towards the end of their startup music routine. So, although in the same style, the movie I have made at the end of this video is in colour. The original video from Southern posted by ...

It's time to say a fond farewell to Rediffusion (Associated-Rediffusion) with this start-up Theme: 'Blithe Spirit' composed by Richard Addinsell I have not included the Fanfare by Charles Williams or Cockaigne by Edward Elgar in this video. I have also taken the liberty of using Rediffusion's rebranded logo of 1964; naughty, but I prefer it. 'Blithe Spirit' was used to startup A-R's programmes ...

Did I just saw BBC
I was a kid in the 70’s and about 7 ish in the morning before anyone else was up … I’d listen to this … fantastic!
TELLY-WELLY
EGG CUP LAND LONG LIVE TV-AM!
What a lovely blast from the past. As a kid I was often up early to watch this.
@@westerner1980 Yes, it was the best startup that I can remember. It was truly inspired at a time when ITV companies really cared about their audience. Best wishes, Nigel

Good morning, this is Television South. TVS, the new Independent Television company that is proud to serve both the South and South East of England. To begin, we BRING IN THE NEW with for the first time our symbol, which will soon become very familiar.
0:06 _"Good morning. This is Central, which provides your programmes on the Midlands transmitters of the Independent Broadcasting Authority."_

Very nice drone shots but where’s the robin?!
Hi Tim. The ubiquitus Robin does appear to have been retired in favour of the Deer in the West and the Puffins in Wales/Cymru. Maybe he'll be back one day. All the best, Nigel.
We used to live in Scotland before moving to back Yorkshire be fore i watch stv know as scotishtelevion
Serving North Yorkshire _and_ the North East on channel 3, this is Tyne Tees Television
Tommy. The Who
In my own admittedly biased opinion the very best start up of them all.
50 YEARS AGO!!! I can't believe it!
0:32 _"This is Southern Independent Television, providing a full colour service to the South and South East of England from the transmitters of the Independent Broadcasting Authority."_
4:31 _"This is Yorkshire Television, in colour."_ - Redvers Kyle
_"This is Ulster Television, broadcasting from the IBA television transmitters serving Northern Ireland."_
There’s comfort food and then there’s comfort watching. This is the latter, simpler times.😊
I must admit that I love the original film footage as it showed real pride and imagination by Westward. The Golden Hind used for their ident was also iconic as was Anglia's horse and knight. Glad that this brought back happy memories. All the best, Nigel.
A magnificent piece of music and to this day, so triumphant. And may I add that Yorkshire TV start-up in 1982 - also a magnificent TV start-up from where I lived. All lost in time, sadly. Thank you for uploading as a reminder. I used to watch this TVS start-up when I stayed with my nana in Brighton, around 1982-3. I felt Southern was so boring, but I'd watch the new and shiny TVS start-up, and I felt excited.
I really love this! Thanks so much for putting it together. Very well synched with the music and well chosen. The shot of the Liver Bird in the sunset is especially striking. The music is a classic of course. How appropriate to finish with MediaCity!
Hi Tim. Thank you for your wonderful comment. I did not make enough of the sourh of the region, but Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster were a must. Chester and the Lake District were also included as Granada broadcast to that part of the region up until 1982. I am planning to do a video for the opening of the station in due course. Best wishes, Nigel.
And now for the one, o, clock show with george romayne , ahh memories ! .
Memories of my Grandfathers flat in North London.
Seen the Anglia start up a few times in the 1970s. Although I was living in the ATV area at the time. I could pick a weak signal from Sandy Heath on my Fergusion Portable Monocrome TV..
ATV had some of the best start ups.
Saw this on holiday in Scarborough.
Once saw this at my Grandmothers house in North London in the 1970s
Saw this on holiday in Bournemouth and Brighton in the 1970s.
I saw a Westward start up whilst on Holiday in Cornwall in 1971 just before they went Colour. They showed Test Card D at that time.
It’s a great mock. However in reality I doubt Central would have kept the IBA caption on screen for that long. In all the start up routines I’ve seen the IBA caption only appears briefly.
one truly amazing fact about all these locations , it is not raining
Love being a Yorkie person born in county of shore 😊❤😊
Hi. The 1st of August is Yorkshire Day, so have a great celebration. Best wishes Nigel
ABC features in the film Quatermass and the pit.
Nice work.
Yes so too.
Nice start up tune.
Does anyone know if this piece has been released on cd commercially?...if it hasn't it should be.
As a kid I always thought the TVS logo was a multicolour upside down Atari logo (of which I had the computers at the time). :)
I haven't searched your archive yet but an awesome mock would be an updated version of the ATV intro featuring Odyssey/"Life is a Beautiful Book". Edit: Ignore that, I've found it :)
Thanks for posting. Just so many happy memories of childhood brough back by this. At the time I was keen for the start up to be over so the programmes could start Only now do realise how good it actually was. Has anyone seen any episodes of Treasure Hunt with Keith Fordyce anywhere?
I preferred Westward's intro music - this seems like a strange fusion of game show and light jazz which doesn't quite "feel" right - but each to their own :)
The Drone footage is nice, although I think that the City of York, Whitby, Flamborough and Bridlington would be served by Yorkshire Television's transmitters than Tyne Tees although the catchment areas do overlap, which is because we are such a tiny country. I think Tyne Tees main transmitters were: Bilsdale, Burnhope now Chatton, and Pontop Pike, the most memorable TT TV ident was the the one from the 70s and early 80's [ the one with the the 3rd dimension ]. Super Gran, Chain Letters, The Tube and the adaptations of Catherine Cookson's novels.
I wonder if it's coincidental that Grampian and Granada appear to have used the same font. It's even more noticeable with the colour, the fact they both start "GRA" and share four letters.
It was an extremely commonly used font back in the day.
I like the pseudo stereo enhancement of the music pieces. I've stereo widened this mock start up and converted it into a 6 channel surround sound WMA file using Adobe Audition 3 which I found on the internet, and converted it online to a Dolby Digital AC-3 5.1 Surround Sound file and it sounds incredible.
Hi Anthony. This sounds great. Everybody should hear it. All the best, Nigel
The font for the original IBA GMB card was Columbia Serial
Part of that first piece of music was also used in Rover The Long Goodbye
