For an old tape, the sound quality is very good. I'm hearing musical details in the main theme that I never caught before.

Stand by, 8 minutes 57 to the Thatcherite Breakfast Show.....(especially under Gyngell!)

Hi. I gather that you are not a Bruce Gyngell fan. The rebrand of YTV/TTTV was inexplicable especially for Tyne Tees viewers who 'hated' it. Thatcher's bill leading to the 1991 franchise round was a disaster for ITV in general. TV-am lost its franchise for which Thatcher wrote a personal apology to Gyngell. The whole thing was a mess with many great ITV companies losing out in a bizarre bidding 'war'. Even HTV, TTTV and YTV were almost lost due to the ITC considering failing them on their business plans. Others were either unopposed or underbid their rivals, winning on quality. Get me the smelling salts. Such is life. All the best, Nigel.

@@nigelcash5284 To be honest it was pretty much Thatcherite by the time the famous five had been ousted out and a Mr Aitkin was temporarily brought in, until he realised you're not supposed to that if you're a sitting MP (I'm surprised he did what he was supposed to).
Not much of a Gyngell fan, he ruined YTV too and for the unlucky TTTV who had to take on the full C3 rebrand, it was dreadful.

@@Sheffield_Steve It was the 1990 Broadcasting Bill that tore ITV and Independent Local Radio to pieces.

Yep and she helped stab her bessie mate Gyngell with the act.
So much for friends, eh? With friends like that who needs enemies?? 🤭

I’m guessing TV-AM was created so ITV would expand their schedule to eventually start 24 Hour TV. Though, In my POV, it’s the killer of the startups.

Hi ML. Yes, breakfast tv was the beginning of the end for the startup routine. I suspected it straight away and I was sadly proven correct. I think that it was only a matter of time anyway, until 24 hr tv began along with other nations and satellite broadcasting companies. I've never really seen the need for it, but it's here to stay. All the best, Nigel.

@@nigelcash5284 Yeah, I can see your point, especially since BBC didn’t start 24/7 Television until the 21st Century.

@@ml8185 BBC1 thru 4 do still close down, in some sense, except they either switch to BBC News feed, show a highlights reel, or a placeholder. They don't go "off air" per se.

I'm not sure Jeff Wayne actually composed "Daybreak". I believe if was David Dundas who composed it. "Good Morning Britain" was indeed Jeff Wayne.

Hi cjmillsnun. You are absolutely correct, of course. I will correct this shortly. Thanks for the information,
