GAMSAT S2 Quote Interpretation: Cancel Culture
This is a quote interpretation to a GAMSAT Section 2 prompt set created by 90plusgamsat on cancel culture:
1. There are risks to shutting down opinions we disgaree with
2. cancel culture is a beneficial and necessary part of modern media - it encourages accountability and growth for those who are called out.
3. we must push back against push back - when only one view is allowed it promotes not critical enquiry, but orthodoxy.
4. being consistently outraged by opposing viewpoints provides a ready reason not to consider them.

Would this be a sound syllogism? 1) Willingness to endure discomfort builds tolerance, encouraging individuals to perceive with greater insight. 2) Greater insight creates social change. Contention) Willingness to endure discomfort creates social change.

Hi Veronica: yes it is, however point one is 2 premises. Really its 1. willingness to endure discomfort builds tolerance 2. tolerance encourages individuals to perceive with greater insight 3. Greater insight creates social change so, 4. Willingness to endure discomfort creates social change but i would just say willingness to endure discomfort leads to greater insight, insight to social change, so willingness to endure discomfort to social change and then explain the tolerance in BP1

I haven’t had any training ever..just online videos. I live in Adelaide and wanted an insight on what would be the best way to go forward. I want to take the September sitting. Section 3 has been the lowest marked for me throughout the sittings. If I am to get into a paid training program with you, could you recommend something? To clarify this further, if you ask yourself these four questions when you plan, and the answer is yes to all four - you won't have an issue with your explanation. If the answers isn't yes you shouldn't proceed with the plan because its going to come up as an issue later in the essay. Questions to ask yourself about your plan before you proceed with it: 1. Is it coherent/sound?
 2. Is it relevant?
 3. Does each point bite off enough to chew? 4. Do I have something to say about each point?

Hi, please see th-cam.com/video/9BGLoDZF_6U/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/249ZZr3cIS0/w-d-xo.html I have written essays for students in group classes many times before but I don't find it the highest yield thing to do for two main reasons: 1. I know I can write essays and so do you but that doesn't help you per se (versus me showing you how to do it for yourself) 2. It distracts students from what they should be doing, which is understanding the basics and the single thing in front of them that needs to be done, and sets it on fancy flourishes. Typically students start trying to write in the ways they perceive are responsible for the high score (which almost always, aren't correct). I don't want you to write like I do, I want you to fix the single thing that is holding you back which, unless you're currently scoring 89, won't be what I'm doing at 91 Regarding books, I don't typically recommend that as the highest yield place to get info for s2. From Michael (Yang): "Maths in S2 is not too advanced. I believe its a matter of "are you able to use formulas." So my advice would be to practice basic arithmetic, basic linear algebra, scientific notation, indices, logarithms, surds. Most effective way is to practice science theory questions from des science book where you can touch up on science knowledge on top of practice mathematics." Hope that helps

Hi, great interview. I notice you try to keep videos short. I'd like to suggest that if you still have something to say and you're just not waffling, keep going! People have no problem listening for hours. For example, the abc minefield I know you're a fan of also cut off around the hour mark and it gets so frustrating because it feels like they're just getting started sometimes, so perhaps you can relate to that. Nevertheless, you're a fantastic interviewer, so don't short yourself.

Thanks for your lighthearted video Michael 🙏 this will be my second sitting (last i was 3 marks off passing the hurdle) and to be honest I was so jaded after the amount of stress from studying that I havent even started studying for this one. I wanted to take a more rounded approach as I felt that all that studying didn't give me the result I wanted. As I have time to take multiple sittings I will approach this one with a tad more nonchalance (and a bit of study) to see how it will affect my marks. 😊

That sounds like a healthy attitude, Larissa. I had an old mentor who would say "don't reach for any result, just build a small daily foundation." I've found this to be an enormously effective way of succeeding in difficult tasks. Good luck, and stay in touch! :)

what do you mean by 20% of the questions don't count?

    • @90plusgamsat
      @90plusgamsat 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Mark, I mean it's my understanding that literally 20% of the question are being tested for the following GAMSAT and don't contribute to your mark.

@90plusgamsat a request to maybe consider please is a video with reflection on med school now that you're in this chapter... how you came to decide you wanted to be in medicine and how to know if its the right path, did you know this for yourself and how, and what questions you recommend potential future students asks themselves when considering to pursue med (or even what research to do - volunteering etc.) I guess this isn't gamsat related but on the same spectrum of entering med school!

This type of quote interpretation really helps me to come up with great ideas, but would you recommend focusing on one and developing your contention from it, or trying to integrate them all into your essay? I find it difficult to cover a lot of ground when using the contention/syllogism structure for Task A - I try to include these ideas in my evaluation of the topic sentences, but sometimes I feel they stray from it.

defs one. You can't chase after two rabbits and catch both. Focus on one and go deep ;)
