Honestly... I can accept 50s retrofuturism. I can handle the 40s. I can handle the 80s. I prefer the 20s or earlier because of how bizarre it can be. But I really don't think I care about anything from the backwards, sinful, sex-without-consequences era of the 60s and 70s. I could be wrong, but I think that's where the whole idea of an "enlightened free love/casual sex" society became widely popularized and eventually adopted. (most recently, that is) do you notice the lack of traditional, western style architecture? Do you notice the odd desire for these homes to be "away from the old way of thinking" to start anew? Notice the emphasis in making the decor, furniture and placement of the TV appealing to 1. Lazy, decadent people 2. and the woman of the house.? Notice the assumption that "Everyone prefers and deserves to live in warm tropical (or semi arid) weather like in the bahamas/hawaii/california/etc." Yeah, that's the problem with boomers. They want everything, provided very little to their kids, even though they inherited functioning institutions that had their back, a culture that emphasized chaste women, and selfless, modest living. And now hollywood, the media, politicians and normies all want you and your kids to relive and force upon everyone a plastic culture of the decadent hippy beatnick, potsmoking, enlightened marxist, no-critical-thought lifestyles where we import the 3rd world, all of the women are waddling around obese, and the younger generation gets blamed for everything. But at least we aren't speaking German!!!!!

The reason, there are no monorails is that metro wins every time (on almost all fronts). Flying cars will not happen because noise and safety (for anyone around, not just the passengers and the driver).

Am I right to think that Omni magazine which was my favorite magazine long ago in high school and Junior High was a Syd Mead art presenter?? I remember thinking how much all of his artwork looks like it could be possible if so even so Omni magazine featured a lot of artwork that was very similar to his style and I absolutely adore it still

You have to mix the 1950s and today to accomplish at least 80% of what they were trying to do. Take those old cars make them electric and there’s 80% of your retro future right there. We are working on the robots

I disagree. The future we imagined after seeing those old retro-futuristic ideas is in fact here, it's just blended and hidden in many places. Check out those old film clips showing the future home, the future car, the future highways and more. In the United States, most homebuyers want a traditional curb appeal for their modern home, but they also want an automatic garage door, a smart doorbell system, computer-controlled central heating and cooling, state-of-the-art kitchen appliances, and many other futuristic things. Many of the houses built in the middle of the 20th Century still stand, but they've been outfitted with several of these latest upgrades. Even the most humble little cottage will have LED lighting, a huge television screen, a programmable microwave oven, and Internet connectivity. The future is certainly here, but a lot of the vintage features of the past are also still here.

If you get a self driving car your lazy like why self driving cars are for lazy you should put effort in because people get lazier and lazier the more inventions are made or advancements my dad said when he was a child the remote for TV did not exsist and he had to walk to the TV now we have remotes and self driving cars should be banned

I live in Southern California, a few miles from the 405 Freeway, which is one of the busiest highways in the U.S. No section of it is two-stories, other than very short sections where there is an overpass. Yet, when I visited Mexico City about a decade ago, I was amazed by their two-story, six lane freeways. In other words, there were six lanes on the ground level and six lanes above. They run from the airport all the way to the outskirts of the city, about an hour’s worth of travel time, 12 lanes total. I was staying in a high rise and noticed a huge number of helicopters flying overhead. After some research, I found out Mexico City is the second city in the world with the most heliports. Rio de Janeiro is number one. Japan has a city which comes in third in heliports. For comparison, Los Angeles is the 11th city with most heliports. Going back to Mexico City, I was also surprised by the number of parking lots with automated systems, where cars are stacked one on top of the other, elevator style, and at the press of a button, your car is retrieved. Very Jetsons style! 🛸 I don’t understand why we don’t have these systems in the U.S. Probably too much red tape and the influence of the car industry 🚗 🚘 🚙

Chesley Bonestell was a big part of my childhood. His space art was prominently featured the World Book Encyclopedia my family had in the 1960s. I loved space exploration and was captivated and awed by Bonestell's visions.

We are developing a retro real flying car similar to the Blade Runner flying car that would fit in very well in this video. It is called Sky Chaser and looks and drives like a car, and flies both vertically like a drone and horizontally like a plane, in addition it is amphibian. An artistic picture of the vehicle can bee seen in my Icon, and We are located in the middle of Sweden, and are developing and test in a full scale prototype. The thing I like about this retro futurism era is that everything looked fresh and optimistic, unlike the 80s futurism such as Blade runner, Mad Max or The Clockwork Orange, which looks dark, hostile and somewhat dirty. In the 1950s peoples were more confident about the future, unlike today.

I moved to Beijing in 2008 under the impression that this futurism was real. As it turned out, it was a hoax. I worked in a tall building that was completed mostly on the outside for visual impact for the Olympic games that year. Most of the building didn't even have plumbing or running water. Similarly the new subways and many other structures were disappointing once you got past the surface. When I traveled to the countryside and I saw Chinese living exactly as they did in 1949. Same thing when I traveled to Shanghai, Qingdao, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Don't let the false modernity of Chinese cities fool you; all is not as it seems.

My uncle collected old Popular Science and Popular Mechanics magazines in the 1960s and I was always so thrilled to visit My uncle lived in the city, and we had to drive the newly-built interstate highway system with the flyover interchanges to reach his house. Back then, it seemed it was all coming true.
