What I love about all your videos, here and also on Majorianus (apart from the fact that they are so well made), is that they transport me away from every day reality into other worlds. 1000x thanks!
thank you for choosing John Berkey, i'm a huge fan of this painter and seeing his masterpieces is amazing..he's ability to use impressionist' s technic for his futuristic landscape is amazing.
This man is a lifelong hero of mine! I grew up on those "visions of the future" type books that were popular in the 80s, filled with his illustrations! Not to mention the numerous ones he did for Popular Mechanics articles and covers. A treasure that needs to inspire designers and futurists today.
Reference the false perspective image image that you find so confusing. It was done for something like popular mechanics to show how strategic arms treaties were monitored .The main space ship is actually meant to represent a US Spy satellite. The aircraft is a U-2 .the ship is USNS Observation Island with a. Cobra Judy phased radar. And the build is actually meant to be another Phased. Array radar
Thank you for all of this artwork is so great thanks for compiling it so that I can enjoy it again in an almost perverted way- really thank you, though🙂
If you took a 35mm film from the 1960s and shot it through a polarizer filter, it’d yield photographic images similar to the artistic effect of his works; glass without reflection and transparent even from long distances, a sky whose color seems to be darkened but simultaneously high contrast and secondary colors that become closer to their primary hue.
Wow!! I appreciate your content!! Looking at the jagged spaceships reminds me of the books I have. A series of 3 "Terran Trade Authority Handbook". 1st book titled "Spacecraft 2000 to 2100", 2nd book titled "Spacewreck Ghostships and Derelicts of Space", and 3rd book "Great Space Battles" by Stewart Cowley, (last book co-authored by Charles Herridge). ❤George Lucas's Star Wars series needs to come back!! ❤😄
I love al of Berkey's work- including his SciFi novel covers. That illustration of the giant rotating space station with the enormous observation window reminds me of a Star Trek movie, in which Picard's Enterprise goes back in time to witness Zephraim Cochrane inventing the warp core. A woman from that time makes her way aboard the Enterprise and looks at Earth through a large observation window, only she realizes that there's no glass in that window; Picard tells her it's a force field, or energy field.
John Berkey's art looks like it was made by AI by how blurry it looks, please tell me the art wasn't made by AI and is real, not that all AI art is bad just the blurry looking AI art with deformed eyes and multiple fingers.
I've messed around with AI image generators, and this is the type of thing they come up with. I think it is simply because they were trained on lots of futuristic images such as these. I've found it difficult to coerce the AI generators to gravitate away from this aesthetic.
Nope! Oil, Acrylics, and Gauche on canvas or wood. His style is so "elaborate" when seen in print but simple in execution at the same time. Seeing a work of his in person shows thick layers of paint that is sometimes scraped onto the canvas to get those hard geometric shapes. with smaller scrapes on top to work in the "detail".
Berkey was very good designer and commercial illustrator. His overall designs were very imaginative, and he specialized in si-fi book cover illustration. He had many imitators and I believe his spaceship designs and style were copyrighted to stop other artists from stealing from him.
They might have been upscaled from low resolution, but these impressionist type images don't look like AI to me. I get the sentiment though since a lot of AI images have a smudgy impressionist type look.

That impressionistic fuzziness is a large part of why I really like his style.
same, i must say that i started oil painting by studying/copying his masterpieces..love that style.
Things are so often depicted as optimistic, but the crash at 5:47 is interesting, demonstrating that things can still go horribly wrong.
Love Your Videos & The positive vibes from your voice over.
I love his work.

9:17 man, these are some of the most ugly... i mean "unconventional" spaceships i have ever seen.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really like this type of architecture.

5:47 It's a visual metaphor of a Kamala Harris presidency.
Holy fuck did you really have to insert political reactionary right wing DEI commentary into the “crashed ship” image?

It’s absurd to call his technique ‘Blurry’….You have to be kidding.!!
