Songwriters on the Co-Writing Process
มุมมอง 1808 หลายเดือนก่อน
I'm a big believer that songwriter's need to get over their fear of working with others songwriters. Almost all of the great songs that are part of our popular culture are written by multiple people. There's a magic that happens when songwriter's come to the co-writing table. Beautiful songs get written. I ran into these three songwriters at the park near my house. They're all brilliant writers...

Ben sent me this from his house in the UK. He covered it on his new record. He said he first heard it from our mutual friend @GregoryAlanIsakov as he covers it all the time. Ben said he fell in love with it the second he heard it. Ben is a great songwriter himself and his cover of our song sounds amazing! I'm honored he put it on his new record. Guitar Tricks for Songwriters: Making Open Chords More Interesting
มุมมอง 202ปีที่แล้ว
This is something I get asked about a lot when it comes to the chords I use for the songs I write. Adding the extra notes and such to make the open chords "ring" a little better. So here's a little video about it. I hope you guitar players enjoy it. please subscribe here on TH-cam Find me on Instagram: @jwagnermusic My website is jwagnermusic.com My songwriter’s retreat website is crookedcrow.net

How to play “One Day” By Gregory Alan Isakov. Instructions by the co-writer of the song.
มุมมอง 2.8Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a basic guitar tutorial on how to play a song I wrote with Gregory Alan Isakov a couple of years ago. The tabs and videos I've seen on the internet are wrong and it was starting to get to me. “One Day“ is one of my favorite tunes I’ve co-written, so I decide to give an instruction video so the world isn’t playing the wrong chords for the next thirty years . I hope it’s helpful. I plan o...

This is magnificent! I didn't the live version would be better than the studio version. Now I want a studio version of the live version.
Masterpiece!
I love your voice! This song really showcases it!
Gorgeous song!
Gregory Alan is so great!
Crooked crow totally transformed how I look at songwriting, I am now a part of something so unique it’s hard to put words to. I have new friends I would end barfights for and songs that I never would have imagined myself writing. Crow has made songwriting way more fun and less stressful - I thought I would write clever ballads and I came out with songs I don't even know how to classify! Thank you so much for sharing what you know with us! I just played the first song I wrote at crow live at a festival, watching the audience respond to the crazy specific lyrics that came from this desert oasis put fire in my belly. I hope to come back again as many years as I can, because I know I will leave that place a completely different person every time.
Had the great fortune of watching this interview in person. So cool hanging out with these guys in my home town.
Got a tat for this song and now I’m learning it <33
would you send a pic to me of the tat? that's amazing! my website is above. Makes me happy you like the song so much .
I am terrified of getting started, but I am becoming aware from my sessions over the last few months with my top, central London psychotherapists, that writing, composing and performing is my inescapable destiny, even though I am in my 40s now. I am terrified of attending songwriting classes and workshops with nothing but a blank sheet. I thought I have had an interesting life, but can’t seem to find anything to write about.
discovery is out there...keep writing and don't stop.
💜💜💜
Wow, how wonderful!
More of this please.
You do good work. I'm glad you're on this planet. ❤
Sure we don't need to explain everything like a Scooby Doo villain caught red-handed, but I do appreciate a direct and understandable song. There's a way to make sense AND make lyrical magic.
Love it J!
dude this is so good. would love an album from y'all at some point, cover and/or originals!
Hey buddy...thank you. That would be great. But be an insane amount of work. Who knowns, maybe that'll happen someday now that you put that idea in my head.
What a lovely chords thanks👍
YESSSS! Needed this today. Keep going!!
This is a song where the lines start super strong and don’t let up at all.
Ahh thanks buddy
One of Gregrory Alan Isakov's most underrated songs!! His approach to this song is pure genius!!
I went to Crooked Crow in the Fall of 2023 and it was such an incredible experience. Super grateful for the good people I am still in contact with constantly, the writing takeaways and treasures, the songs that were written and the serenity it also provided in the west Texas desert. I am very lucky to have been a part of it - and cannot wait to return.
Loved having you ! Thanks for the kind word
I discovered the Brother Brothers at the Paramount a frw years ago. I think they were opening for Keb Mo'. I bought their CD and play it in my car, and I ask Alexis to play them while I'm working. Love them!

Thank you for the kindness of sharing this with us!
Love this!!
This is amazing. I feel that I’m in the presence of greatness.
Too kind...thank you!
I’m working this…update later 🥰
Simply put, attending Crooked Crow has been one of the most creatively and spiritually inspiring encounters I’ve experienced. The lessons taught, scenery, and song-filled air are powerful change agents. The connections and relationships enduring. The retreat welcomes and supports writers of all abilities and experiences. I implore you, if given the chance, do not miss an opportunity to partake. Brave the far west Texas wilds to find what the writer in you has always wanted to say.
Crooked Crow is a treasure. It's unlike any songwriting retreat I've been to. It's not about ego, or how many followers you have, or how much notoriety you have. It's a retreat to really hunker down and nerd out on the craft of songwriting. There's something magical about completely unplugging from the internet and cell phones and diving into language, writing exercises, and conversation about what makes a song go from good to great. I've seen so many amazing songs go from a spark of an idea to a fully developed song at Crooked Crow. I highly recommend this retreat to anyone wanting to dig deeper into their songwriting.

This retreat has been one of the biggest and most impactful joys of my life!
Life changing experience, lifelong friendships, breakthrough insights to help further you in pursuit of the craft. I’m so grateful to be a part of the crooked crow family aka ‘murder!’
I love Crooked Crow!
This songwriters retreat ACTUALLY changed my life! Forever and for the better! THe only way to know what it's like is go yourself and experience it firsthand! My good friend Gregory Alan Isakov told me about Crooked Crow years ago and when my name came up in the lottery I jumped at the chance to go! The friendships i made, the songs I wrote and heard written and the overall vibe of welcome and support for each other's art is something I think we all as artists dream of and luckily you can actually experience in the West Texas desert if your name comes up! I sure hope mine does, tis already been a couple years and I can't WAIT to go back!!!
Truly magical & restorative experience all around, the music, the location, the friends, the food! 🥰
Being at Crooked Crow is a surreal experience. It's like stepping through a portal into a different world. One where creativity moves all around you, where magic, music and words are gathered up and made into song. I think you come out the other side feeling changed by the experience and definitely inspired.
Just getting there is worth the journey. What you find there is worth the ride. What you leave there will stay forever.
Aw man, this is so beautiful, makes me wistful and excited about writing songs again. Fingers crossed that I’m in for this fall. Much love.
Thank you Bobby. Hopefully see you at Crooked Crow
There’s really only one word to describe the vibe of a Crooked Crow experience; MAGIC!
That was so awesome! So relatable and artistically done. Thanks! It is so relieving to hear about all the crazy symptoms people overcome when they realize it is fear and do what is necessary to face it.
Thanks man...means a lot to me that you took a listen and left a comment. I really appreciate your channel and the work you do.
Of course! I listened to some of your music as well. It is really really fucking good. Let's stay in touch, I can tell I could learn a lot from you. Maybe we could do a podcast or something and talk about music and mindbody stuff:)@@jwagnersongs
FABULOUS. And turned me on to some new tunes! xo
The stage didn't break under the weight of all that talent?
ahh.. thank you!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Best advice don’t let the editor in! Right on.
