@FFlynnsArcade Vivenne Westwood made some iconic pieces for sure. One of these days I'll get to London to see where her shop was to pay homage to my punk roots. And you can never go wrong with the classic elegance of Chanel...

@@treadhead1945 I just looked it up and it is still there! I just figured that it had closed many years ago, but it didn't, it just changed names. I don't go to that part of town very often. But when I next find myself there, I will definitely make sure I pay my respects. I even visited the site of CBGBs when I went to NYC, it had become a small museum/art gallery at that point, but it was nice to check it out.

@FFlynnsArcade it's now a boutique for designer John Varvatos, some guy selling 200 dollar t shirts and thousand dollar jeans. Sigh...

@@treadhead1945 that's really sad. For similar reasons I never normally go to the Kings Rd. It's a sad aspect of life. Creative people make things interesting, then people realise that there is money in it and it eventually moves out the creatives.

I have never gotten round to watching Entourage, I remember reading an interview with Bret Easton Ellis who spoke about it at length at the time, so it must have resonated with him. I am a big fan of Bret Easton Ellis so I am surprised I didn't follow it up. I think I will make the effort to watch at least one of the episodes this week.

@@FFlynnsArcade it's pretty good! it took me a few attempts because the guys seemed like douche bags at first, but it grew on me by the end of the first episode. Jeremy Piven is by far my favorite character on that show.

I see what you mean. Madison from Splash is child like because she has a sense of wonder about all the new things she is exposed to on land - it is an admiral quality. Whereas Andy's friends are childish in this scene because they resort to school yard bullying. They aren't exactly nice to each other in the earlier scene, but all of them are in on the joke and their comments don't seem to come out of malice, but a nasty instinct which they really should have grown out of, kicks in here.

@@kitkat6959 the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that she was being set up for this at this point. I think the idea was abandoned when Dr Girlfriend and the Monarch got back together and especially when Triana moved away. I think itwas a similar situation to Dr Girlfriend 's pregnancy story line which was abandoned in season 3.

@@derekrichardson9105 thank you! I think you might be onto something there. I was working on this video at the same time as the Dr Rockso video from last week and I felt like Dr Rockso's presence drifted over to this one. But it isn't just my over active imagination, it turns out that John Candy had quite a fondness for Rockso's drug of choice. It is notorious for giving people poor judgement. I reckon it had quite an influence on most if not all of the stranger creative decisions on this film.

@@homerco213 it really changes the tone of this episode. It is really sad up until this point, then that is hilarious. It should also be sad, but instead they went with really dark comedy and it is brilliant!

@@sideeggunnecessary the Rockso scenes during the Rikki Six Sober Fest episode are what inspired me to make this video. They are almost too funny!

@@CitizenScribbler thank you for your kind words. I agree that movies aren't usually a good example for healthy and realistic relationships. I don't think they need to be. They are for entertainment purposes and events are often dialed up for dramatic effect, so people really shouldn't copy them. I certainly don't wish to copy anything I have seen on The Venture Bros and I watch it all the time! There is a similar bathroom scene to this one in "Pretty Woman" which was made around the same time as "Splash". The story involves a business man who picks up a sex worker on the street. She goes to the bathroom to use dental floss and the business man suspects she is taking drugs in there. I think the business man behaves reasonably here. Sex workers sometimes have a problem with substances and he tells her straight that he thinks that she is doing drugs. It makes complete sense in the situation. However in Splash, Madison says she is having a bath, which - like dental floss is a reasonable explanation. I don't think Alan had any cause for concern, although he would have been wise to have had a gentle conversation with her later about it.

@@rocketdave719 I learned about the sequel when making this video. I don't have any desire to watch it because the original cast were so iconic so it just seems so wrong. Plus, the Secretary is the worst character in the whole film, I didn't find her funny, I just found her weird and annoying. Maybe that was funny in 1984, but I doubt it. I am a big fan of "The Young Ones" which was made then and that show is hilarious. People were more than capable of making high quality comedy in those days, so I don't know what was going on there. The Madison name trend is quite strange. In my extended circle, I must know at least 4 Madisons. It's a completely normal name nowadays.

@@rocketdave719 regarding Alan's brother, it is sad that they won't see eachother again, however Freddy had massive character growth during his redemption arc. One of the things which was holding him back was the way Alan did all the work at the family firm, which enabled him to shirk responsibility. Having seen the type of relationship Alan and Madison have, he expresses his desire to find something similar and without Alan, he will be forced to step up at work and do his job properly. Without his brother there, he will finally be forced to grow up. It is sad, but the film leaves him in a far better condition than when the film started.

@@patrickmcconaughey6176 that is a really valid point. The scientists would have definitely wanted to interview her to learn her language skills. There was a phase when scientists were interested in teaching gorillas sign language, so I am pretty sure they would have been really interested in a mermaid. I don't get why they went straight to observation/dissection. The film reminds me a lot of ET. But ET was obviously not human, so I can believe that there would be dubious ethics around the study of him, but Madison is borderline human and she is also very famous because of the incident at the Statue of Liberty and the fact loads of journalists were present when she got hosed down. I can't believe that no human rights lawyers got involved with her case. Your comment adds another layer onto this plot hole. I have always thought that if I lived in the Ventureverse I would be a villain so it would be the O.S.I getting in touch to say I had qualified for an arch. I would love to hang out with Dr Girlfriend and a person who I believe to be David Bowie. This is partly why I like Victor Echo November so much. Kim was so lucky to get asked to team up with Dr Girlfriend. I can't believe she didn't follow through with it!

@@7vezda it definitely holds up. Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks are brilliant in this film. They made the bizarre premise really believable. I am going to watch more Ron Howard films now I have seen this one.

@@7vezda I have recently become interested in moon landings - mostly the successful one by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin but I just looked up Apollo 13 and it is about a failed moon landing. That sounds right up my street so I will watch it this afternoon! Thanks for the heads up!

@@treadhead1945 that character is so strange. I liken him to a McPoyle brother from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia because he is such a perve. It's difficult when he gets a redemption arc because that never happens to the McPoyles. A character can either be a loveable rogue or a gross out comedy figure and this is the first time I have seen one being both things. Although a few of his one liners are hilarious. Apparently John Candy stayed out drinking all night with Jack Nicholson and showed up on set drunk the next day during filming. My favourite film is "The Shining" so I like to think his influence rubbed off on him which helped make the character so strange.

@@FFlynnsArcade That ia a party I would have loved to been at! As funny as John Candy was, and as intense as Jack Nicholson is it had to have been incredible. And I kove your taste in movies. Shining is top 5 for me, with Alien being my favorite

I am taking a break from this series for a few weeks but I am looking forward to making my video about S3 Episode 1. That is a particularly amazing episode. Even if the cliffhanger doesn't pay off! @@FFlynnsArcade as a person who started watching when season 1 aired, I think season 2 is the best. I always felt that the show was strongest when it focused on The downtime between adventures. I did not much care for the OSI or the guild of calamitous intent power struggles.

@@SiRenfield yeah I can imagine it being a nightmare for them after the stolen banana/sandwich incident. If they ever make a Metalocalypse spin off show, it would be great to see more of Zazz Blammymataz. When they get going properly, they are pretty amazing.

I am curious to know if this was the plan all along. Having rewatched season 1, there are a few things which back up my theory. Mostly the inexplicable hatred The Monarch has for Rusty and his sketchy backstory, as I move throughout the seasons I am looking for more and more clues. Jackson Publick says that Hank and Dean were always supposed to be clones, but could they were never really supposed to be the stars of the show. Were The Venture Bros always supposed to be Malcolm and Rusty?

@@marcmcvey1844 I strongly recommend it. It is very different to the Venture Bros in tone and storyline but it has a real heart and quite a lot of character development. I binge watched over the course of a few weekends and I really got sucked into it. I am rather sad to have finished the saga.

@@kitkat6959 I know 2 married gay guys, but they weren't technically married, they had something similar which was called a civil partnership. And that was in 2012. Gay people were only allowed to get properly married in the UK in 2015. 9 years after this episode was broadcast. I think it has a progressive tone to it, but Doc Hammer is obviously quite down on it because he spoke so strongly about it in the book. I can see his point because I was relieved when The Alchemist showed up in the next episode. It will be a while until we meet Shore Leave, though.
