I was dreading making this video because I have never liked this episode because of reasons discussed. Do you agree with me? Even Doc Hammer described "A Very Venture Xmas" as "fucking depressing". This makes me feel better about not liking it.
This is still one of the better Christmas specials I've seen.

@@derekrichardson9105 thank you. The funniest thing about making this series is when I find myself reading the Venture Bros to filth. It's such a great TV show and every day I feel fortunate to have it in my life but occasionally I think "I love you. I just don't like you". But then I think about Operation P.R.O.M and how sad I am that I will never get to see the scene where Brock dumps Molotov off a cliff when the Pulp song kicks in for the first time again.
This episode has always felt like a middle of the pack season 1 episode to me. I definitely give it a little more leniency as a Christmas special though.
I watched your video before I made this one. I think you have a more positive outlook on life than I have. Or maybe you haven't. I doubt anyone who makes TH-cam videos about The Venture Bros is an optimist. Or maybe they are so pessimistic that they have flipped to the other side without noticing. Since making this series I have changed my temperament to say "yay failure!" It feels like a superpower.

Love Bheits has always been my least favourite (non pilot) episode, it’s just the least funny of the lot imo, and Baron Underbheit just doesn’t have the strength to carry his own episode, still got funny bits though, I wouldn’t say any of them are seriously bad. I have always liked this one, but then I have a soft spot for episodes like this. Great analysis!
Thanks for the comment. Baron Underbheit is an awful character. Jackson Publick wanted to create a genuinely evil and terrifying character but he must be a good person because he could never really pull it off. He wound up making him look foolish instead. I don't like the character but I enjoy the metanarative of failure.

@@mergieismoronic 100% I am currently watching Season 2 and I have always been disturbed by the scene when The Monarch chases the sex worker through the labyrinth. Apparently this scene was originally written for Underbheit. This makes so much more sense after The Monarch had his redemption arc.
I'm curious why the other shows pulled out of the venture (pun intended, I guess).
I didn't dislike the episode. But it's not anywhere near my favorites.
I like this episode more after making this video. But I always left this one out when I did a rewatch. 👍

I am looking to posting my video on "Powerless In The Face of Death". This is a classic and one of my all time favourites.
I usually skip this one whenever I do a re-watch of the series. I see it as less of an actual episode of the show and more of an Adult Swim gimmick... in some ways, I see it as almost a parody (intentional or otherwise) of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special-- something dreamed up by network execs, rather than the actual creators, to exploit popular characters to attract viewers during the holiday. It's non-canon, the creators feel shame over its creation, and it's almost universally reviled-- the parallels are there.
I was so relieved when I read that Doc Hammer thinks this episode is "fucking depressing". I film my TH-cam videos in a block so it was a few weeks between my video about the season 1 finale and this episode. I was purposefully procrastinating to avoid making it. I don't like the testicular torsion episode or anything with Baron Ünderbheit either. It feels weird to not enjoy an episode of one of the best TV shows ever made.
I wouldn’t go as far to call this episode reviled, not as liked sure but not genuinely hated. I get the comparison though, I’d say the SWHS parody is intended, it even opens out with a parody of the “CBS Special Presentation” logo.
@@mergieismoronic controversial opinion. I never liked "Escape From The House of Mummies Part 2" either. I am currently watching it now and I am watching it as I write this. I am still not into it. I will see if I change my mind before I make the video for that episode.
