Train videos from a variety of different locations primarily in and around Melbourne, but occasionally in other areas such as Sydney.
Showgrounds (Melbourne Railway Vlog 236)
Plus bonus footage of riding from Showgrounds to Flemington Racecourse!
Rather than going to the Melbourne Show like a normal person, I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to film a video at Showgrounds, and not go into the actual show itself. Showgrounds is a very unusual station, in that it only has a single platform (despite there being two lines through it), while also having an elevated vantage point for announcers to look over the station and manage the crowds. Hope you enjoy the video!

Croydon part 2 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 235)
มุมมอง 52721 วันที่ผ่านมา
The newly rebuilt Croydon train station now has a claim for being one of the nicest stations on the network! It is elevated, and has great views of the surrounding Dandenongs. You get a nice mountain breeze from them too! Hope you enjoy the video. Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Levi) [NCS release] th-cam.com/video/K4DyBUG242c/w-d-xo.html
Ringwood East (Melbourne Railway Vlog 234)
มุมมอง 615หลายเดือนก่อน
Ringwood East is one of the numerous stations that have been rebuilt as part of the Level Crossing Removal programme. Located way out in the eastern suburbs, the new design is really well done! Works have progressed significantly since this video was filmed. Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Levi) [NCS release] th-cam.com/video/K4DyBUG242c/w-d-xo.html
*NEW* Metro Tunnel Construction Update Spring 2024 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 233)
มุมมอง 33Kหลายเดือนก่อน
A progress update on the Metro Tunnel and Latrobe St tram works. Since the last update, there has been significant progress on the three remaining unfinished sites of Anzac, State Library, and Town Hall. While there is still a lot of work to do with the latter two, there are certainly promising signs. Also shown in this video is progress at Arden and Parkville, where major construction has long...
Malvern (Melbourne Railway Vlog 232)
มุมมอง 5962 หลายเดือนก่อน
Malvern is a busy inner-city station, very well served by 3 train lines. It gets a train about every 5 minutes into the city, even in off-peak! It's a lovely old-style station, but unfortunately has fallen into a state of disrepair, with the tactiles needing replacement. I did however, in the video, get mixed up between Malvern and Armadale. Daniel Bowen wrote an article about how Armidale need...
A Trip on the West Coast Wilderness Railway (Tasmanian Railway Vlog 1)
มุมมอง 3903 หลายเดือนก่อน
In the wild west of Tasmania sits one of the most unlikely railway lines. Once upon a time, it was possible to get all the way to Hobart from Strahan and Queenstown, which are surrounded by untouched and extremely rugged hills. The West Coast Wilderness Railway operates services between Strahan and Queenstown, although it is currently not possible to go all the way through on one train. I decid...
Bunyip part 2 (Victorian Railway Vlog 34)
มุมมอง 3993 หลายเดือนก่อน
The second platform at Bunyip is finally open. Well, it was finally open 2 months ago when I filmed this video, but I forgot to upload it, much like the construction crews seemed to forget about finishing the project at Bunyip and Longwarry! I was lucky enough to enjoy a stunning evening, with a beautiful sunset, and a constant chorus of corellas. Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Le...
Keon Park part 2 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 231)
มุมมอง 8633 หลายเดือนก่อน
Keon Park is station on the Mernda line which has been rebuilt in a very controversial fashion. While Skyrail was definitely the best option for removal, the platforms have been placed extremely close to the existing apartments. These apartments predated the new station, but not by long - they probably should have taken into account that Skyrail was going to be the method deployed. Aside from t...
Parkdale (Melbourne Railway Vlog 230)
มุมมอง 1.5K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
The newly rebuilt Parkdale station only opened a couple of days ago, and here is how it looks! Unlike most of the Frankston line's upgraded stations, it is a skyrail one, which was very controversial among locals. However, as usual, I think they have done a really good job with the design, and once all the at ground landscaping works are done, it will look great! Hope you enjoy the video! Outro...
Can I Pass Every Melbourne Train Station in One Day? (Melbourne Railway Vlog 229)
มุมมอง 42K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
211 train stations, 15 train lines, but only 24 hours to go through every one on Melbourne's incredibly spread out and often unreliable rail network. Join us as we hastily explore the whole network, including seeing progress on level crossing removals and SRL! This would be a challenge on any day, but my friend and I picked one where one of the legs required a replacement bus, adding even more ...
Bittern (Melbourne Railway Vlog 228)
มุมมอง 5494 หลายเดือนก่อน
Once the junction for the Red Hill line, Bittern is now a pretty typical, quiet Stony Point line station. It only has a single platform, although it does have a nice amount of greenery. Hastings (Melbourne Railway Vlog 227)
มุมมอง 7074 หลายเดือนก่อน
I have always wanted to see a train use the Long Island siding, and in this video, I finally managed it. I start at the location of the siding, which is located between Tyabb and Hastings. After seeing the train, I head down to the station itself, which is one of the worst I have seen on the whole network! It's such a shame that such a large town has such an ordinary station. Tyabb (Melbourne Railway Vlog 226)
มุมมอง 5774 หลายเดือนก่อน
Tyabb is a very modest station on the Stony Point line. With only the single platform and a low-frequency service, it certainly isn't the best going around. Nevertheless, it is always fun checking out random Stony Point line stations. Hope you enjoy! Outro music: On & On - Cartoon (feat. Daniel Levi) [NCS release] th-cam.com/video/K4DyBUG242c/w-d-xo.html
Pakenham part 2 (Melbourne Railway Vlog 225)
มุมมอง 6784 หลายเดือนก่อน
Pakenham is no longer the terminus of the line, following a project to remove 3 level crossings around it. Metro services have been extended to East Pakenham to allow V/lines to easily pass Metro trains on their way out to Traralgon. The new Pakenham station is very flashy, particularly from the outside. There is, however, still a lot of work to be done on the station, particularly on platform ...
East Pakenham (Melbourne Railway Vlog 224)
มุมมอง 2.2K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to the newest station on the railway network! The level crossing removal project at Pakenham presented the opportunity to improve the interaction between V/line and Metro trains at the end of the line. Often, V/lines would get delayed while waiting for space at Pakenham. This new station allows for V/lines to easily pass by terminating Metro trains. This video is a bit of a strange one,...

What are the best (and the worst) train lines in Melbourne?
I very much enjoyed this video, now to watch part 2 :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm also a big fan of your channel. You actually inspired me to start mine 10 years ago!
@@melbournerailwayvideosThank you mate! I’ve been checking out your channel and a couple of other Melbourne TH-camrs as i’ll be spending a bit of time in Melbourne within the next 12 months lets say :)
@sydneytrainsvlogs How exciting! Hopefully we'll have a Metro Tunnel for you to ride when you get here!
Never knew that section of the gardeners creek used to be a train line. No wonder it’s sooooooo smoooooth
Hating a station based on who it’s named after, pretty lame.
Great video man one idea I had in mind i doing this but only using buses to get to each station in Victoria
They should duplicate the line to Eltham or to at least the trestle bridge
dude oh my god i was just watching another video from another small creator i love and u popped up outta nowhere, this is such a weird worlds colliding moment th-cam.com/video/WVxANpDUpQw/w-d-xo.html
Of course it's better to have a train station/service over a tram! 57 tram is a poor substitute.
Notice how there are no old comeng on that line!!!
No need to open this line you’ve got a tram right near by which is frequent and just as quick into the city.
I think there's a case of opening it, along with concomitant rezoning of land near the line, for some transit-oriented development.
Trumpensacken ❤
The reason why the platform you're on is so large is because at some point, there was almost certainly an additional platform (siding?) on the other side. There's evidence of it past some more scary looking signs on the opposite end (toward Flemington Racecourse Station), where you didn't film any footage. The day I went no AO's or PSO's were present, so I was able to go back there and have a good look. You can see the remnants of the old platform past a shed, fenced off with another shed to the side of it (where tracks would've been). Extremely dilapidated and rotted, so it was probably shut down a while ago. Don't know the history, though. Please don't take my word for it, I have the photo posted on Google Maps.
Hmmmm... I can't find any sources online suggesting that there used to be an additional platform. There definitely used to be lots of sidings in the area, but I'm not so sure there was another platform. Interesting point nonetheless!
During the years before auto doors the platform would be packed with multiple trains loads of people waiting on show day and the sat sun to go home. The over head station master area was used to make certain all the people were clear of the train when it arrived and before it left, the PA system instructions were certainly entertaining dont forget people use to keep jumping on as the train moved away at most stations and oftern hang out the doors of travel with the door open as no A/C.
my Goodness, train station is worse than 3rd world countries! So shame Melbourne stations are so dilapidated, no shade for commuters, no seats for waiting passengers, no amenities, no station staffs, NOT AT All! what the state government are doing! I came from Sydney and I can definitely say NSW train stations are way way better that Victoria.
I would like to point out that this station is only used 5 or 6 times a year, so the government probably doesn't think it warrants upgrading
What a load of nonsense. It's perfectly fine. It's designed for large volumes of people to go through quickly. People don't tend to wait around there much as trains come quickly. It is only used a few weeks a year. To call it '3rd world' is absurd. We are so privileged here to have trains. That are safe and reasonably frequent (though with room for improvement). Please get some perspective.
Yeah, this one is pretty poor and needs more shelter for sure!
Adding a regular service to this line would further complicate timetabling on the Northern Group lines and the nearby residents can use the 57 tram instead, so I doubt it'll ever happen. Also: announcement @ 12:07 "train arriving at the platform will not be taking passengers, please do not board this train..." @ 12:50 *boards this train* lol
Hahaha I couldn't help myself! It would complicate timetabling, but I don't think it would be unbearable, especially off-peak. It would also allow a more frequent service for Kensington and Newmarket. But yeah, there are probably much higher-priority projects.
The tactile part isn't part of the yellow line though, right? Only the actual yellow line is part of the yellow line.
Broadmeadows would be my no.1. If you are not scared at or around this station then you are probably one of the reasons why the rest of us are. The underpass floods dramatically wthl very poor drainage. I have waded nearly knee high to get through - its the only option. Imagine spending hundreds of millions of dollars on ad campaigns like "drink 'n drive, you're a bloody idiot" only to NOT spend money on road line markings and repair road signs. There is no excuse for the incompetence and fraudulent economic mismanagement of Victoria's public funds. Slip slop slap cost billions but zero dollars has been spent to give shade to our children when playing at hundreds of public playgrounds around Melbourne.... NO EXCUSE
Jacana Station is also one of the weirdest and wildest moments of the M80 cycle trail. Up, over, around, down, this is the only way for one of Melbourne's biggest cycle trails to get across the train line! A separate pedestrian / cycle bridge would surely make sense for everyone.
Thanks for highlighting that. I forgot about how important the M80 trail is!
If you lived in Carrum, you'd be late home from work every night, just because of that sunset🌇😊
Hahaha exactly right!
My god how can a station like Jacana EXIST with weather like Melbourne's? If you lived there and it was rainy or hot, I'd just work from home!!
Yeah, it's pretty shocking, but unfortunately many Melbourne stations lack adequate shelter
Well buddy broady station always been worst station even before u were born. Albion isn't that bad.
Flinders Street is a bit of a shocker now. Needs a massive refurb/upgrade pretty much everywhere but especially the Elizabeth St underpass - whenever its wet, the tile floor there becomes so slippery its a death trap. Ditto for some of the platforms. Yes connectivity is great and platform 10/13 that runs alongside the Arbory bar are pretty, but the rest of the station is grimy and feels old and tired.
Just went past town hall station today and the frame of a station entrance has appeared in city square and the Franklin street entrance has all the scaffolding removed
Part 15:45 - 15:51 was an area where a 6 carraige X'trapolis train to Flinders Street from Belgrave got stuck.
Good to see Melbourne railway being modernised ✌️❤️🇬🇧
This is now the best station in Melbourne. The closest to getting a 10 a station can get.
At 3:30 - you're looking southeast, toward the Dandenong Ranges. At 12:05 - large stormwater retention basins are being put in on either side of the station. Also you are right about the large bus interchange which actually opened today.
It's a mountain. It's called Mount Dandenong
Nice when it's finished! Hopefully no graffitis will pop up and it will be properly maintained!
12:00 Gardiner's Creek always looks like that. It's kinda similar to the Yarra, not necessarily polluted, that's just its colour.
Skyrail really is so much nicer than trenches (Ringwood East vs Croydon)
Engineering in Melbourn is good , like infrastructure, Melbourn water projects. But architecture is absolutely imbecile. Buildings can not even be put in a chategories of architecture. I don’t know what schools those architects finished. Some rock and roll camp workshop.
To answer the question, i would suggest to show on the map with little arrows where thise entries are, when you go from station to station. You are asume g that people know city centre as their pocket. We do not .
Ahhh, yeah great suggestion! I did that for the earlier updates, but I forgot to do it for this one.
Beast Pakenham
V/line would be the best because you could actually rest
I do love at 11:34 how you show an idiot pedestrian almost walking directly in front of the tram!! How hard is it to turn your bloody head? I think the only reason he stopped was due to the wind being pushed in front of the tram itself letting him know it was there. Geez! Some people are examples of that 'Dumb Ways to Die' song. It will be lovely to have a new rail system for the city but the essential project needed is the Suburban Rail Link around the city. Really there should be another ring just like it further out east with stations running north-south from Lilydale to Upper Ferntree Fully, so: down through Mount Evelyn, Kilsyth through to Lysterfield and further south. When I think of just how far behind other major global cities we are in terms of rail accessibility. Our rail between State Capitals and regional centres is a joke. How many federal governments commissioning reports do we need before someone actually puts pen to paper to sign off on a proper infrastructure bill which gives regional Australia access to cities via HSR? If a Labor government ever wants to topple the Nationals in the bush all they need to do is commit to safe consistent rail services at reasonable costs to ride and the bush will vote with their sensibility and knowledge that one party actually does something rather than just talk and promise never delivered projects.
Great video, Ty! Kooyong used to be called North Malvern? 11:04
As it's my local station, I will defend Ruthven - has had a nice resurfacing, extra shelter, the free grass space now has a substation on it. They should paint the building red like it was when it opened in 1963, though. It lacks facilities, but you know what does have facilities? My house, a few minutes walk away.
My judgement on this station is still the same as I did the review
